Buying a car from a Saturn Car Dealer

TX Saturn Car Consumer Discussions

Price I would have paid !!

Was looking for a Saturn Aura. Went to Saturn of Austin. For a '08 Saturn XE with 4cyld, alloy wheels & power drivers seat the car came to $17k + TTL (which I was told would be about $1400 in Austin. TX). I didnt buy the car though because my wife & I decided on a Nissan Altima but fantastic car, good value for money. 1) The $17k was with all discounts - supplier price + $1250 rebate for year end + $500 rebate for Austin Auto Show (that was good thru Dec 25). 2) fantastic experience at Saturn of Austin. They really wanted to sell their cars, talked directly to the GM. Very friendly folks, the only dealership that let us test drive the car alone for over 30 mins. When we still werent too sure, they let us have the car for the weekend !! 10 times better dealer experience than any of the dealers we went to. 3) was surprised GM didnt have usual $500 recent grad discount & $500 loyalty rebate (I also own a '04 Saab 9-3) but check on those since GM usually has those. 4) maybe the car had to breakin but in my test drives I couldnt get more than 21 mpg !! thats horrible for a 4 cyld. This while driving the car as if egg shells were on the pedal. A '07 used Aura XE with 6 cyld my friend has with about 21k miles on it gave avg 26 mpg so i would just check the 4 cyld with a few miles on it before buying a 4 cyld. 5) that has got to be the worse steering on earth !! its too loose. that stupid electrical steering fad that GM is on now. Its too light, brand new car on highway required constant course correction. We almost bought the car because of the value & look but we have been import buyers and the Altima really seemed worth the extra $2k (better interior fit & finish, better mileage)
Ion Redline in DFW

I was looking at buying a 2004 Ion Redline. The sticker was $22300 or so. It had a sunroof, 6 disc and the advanced audio system. The retailer would include all the "extras" free. The extras were tint, Saturn protection (basically a wax, fabric protection and rust proofing) along with Vin etching. These were tacked on at over $1100. The retailer offered $5000 off sticker. No a bad deal. I know $3K rebate and $2K flex cash. The flex cash was explained to me as $250 vouchers from Saturn that are given to dealers in exchange for taking "extra" cars. I actually passed on the deal. The quality of the interior didn't impress me. I have owned 3 Saturns (94 SL2, 96 SC2 classic and 97 SC2) and feel the old ones were just built better. It's sad to see Saturn wheeling and dealing like all other makes. The power didn't seem too great compared to my current car 03 Toyota Matrix XRS.
Help Needed on Rebates Quickly

I am in the final stages of buying a V6 Vue in Houston with side curtains and need you guys and gals help quickly. 1. Was told my GM credit card points were not accepted but dealer did give me extra $750 against my $1150 potential. 2. They claimed they knew nothing of the 6 coupons worth $250 each. Noticed in the paper latter that day they are offering up to $1,500 bonus cash that I think is the same. Can someone confirm and is this a regional deal or nationwide? 3. They offered me $3500 rebate + $750 off sticker with my financing or $1,000 +750 with 0% @60. I assume the $1000 is truckfest is that correct or should I be looking for more rebates? 4. I may be able to get the GM supplier discount. What would that do for me? 5. Has anyone purchased or seen the Safe and Sound Package for $880. Saturn website says it is reduced by $360 at this time. I need to speak to the dealer Monday to close deal and would really appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks Larry
