I called Herb Chambers in Boston and asked about 4 9-3's that ranged from 13k-16.9k which was much lower than prices here in CT. He informed me that these were not Certified Pre-Owned and you would be left with only 2yrs warrantee or 50k miles. For CPO, the price can be about 3k more. The one I�m looking at has 3.5 years left and up to 100k miles (which I�ll never reach in that time). Hence, my 19.9 number is not that far off. That said, no one is buying cars so I may try and bring the price down to around 19ish. Stay tuned, the dealer is letting me bring the car home overnight.

For anyone to compare the quality and reliability of Toyota, Honda and Nissan over the last decade to that of VW is silly. I was not making a comparison. I demonstrated that no car maker was perfect and VW was working on its reliability issues and making a good progress. Why, do you think, Kelly Blue Book has recently named VW as a 2008 Best Resale Value Brand? You seemed to agree that Toyota and Nissan did have and do have reliability issues. Come on, you know it, I know it and even Toyota president has publicly admitted that his company car quality has been slipping recently. The strong Euro hurts VW on price ... and, therefore, on sales too? But VW is doing just fine outside of the North America market. if the best you can do is brag about one average car and one very recent above average score in reliability for VW, you are playing a very weak hand. Passat, Touareg, Beetle anyone? Those models are not the bread and butter ones for VW: the Jetta (Bora) and Golf/Rabbit are. Again, I am not saying that VW is perfect, I just countered your argument that VW could do (or not doing) nothing about its quality issues. ...I might take you seriously but right now I'm laughing. Are you OK? Yours is just opinion. Nope, "Just the facts mam, just the facts".

If you like your local SAAB dealers-good for you! The fellow in California was not trying to convince you otherwise. Yet, having four recalls on a car is not OK, not these days. Do not jump on this fellow because of a misprint and call him semi-literate. BTW, it is ether literate or illiterate, the same as a fish quility: there is no second grade freshness. "...some of the criticisms you are applying universally" - do not put words in someone's mouth. Our personal experience is what we, most of the time, make our conclusions and decisions. andygrv has decided for him/herself not to deal anymore with SAAB based on his personal experience in California. If one to extrapolate your logic, he should not have come to such conclusion before spending some time in your area, where SAAB dealers are good. Then what, he/she will have to move in permanently? I do not think so. We stay where we like, we buy cars, and if we are not happy with them, we get rid of them and buy the better ones. Perception of a car quality is based upon opinions of individual owners. If particular owner feels that his/her car is just a moving nuisance, nothing could change that. A fee which SAAB waives if you re-lease with them,by the way.Brakes at 25,000 miles($25,000?? lol!)if you are driving in an urban,stop-and-go area is not that unusual.Sorry you had a bad experience but it sounds like some of the criticisms you are applying universally are unique to your limited leasing knowledge,individual experience and some unrealistic expectations.A more mass market generic car like a Saturn may in fact be a better fit for you

MSRP: 26,620 (25,900 plus 720 destination) Selling: 25,138 $ Down 1,914 Net Lease 23,864 (with 595 "lease fee") Rate 3.94 (Money factor .00164) term 24 mos Residual 18,900 (71%) Payment 279 + 21 tax DMV 227, Ca Tire 8.75, Tax/Misc 148.35 DriveOff 2,599 (includes down, misc fees and 1st payment) I like the base model car OK, is this a great or so-so deal? Re: Bought new 9-3 linear [mrjjgittes]: by dante on Sun Jun 19 15:42:13 PDT 2005; We test drove a 9-3 Arc this weekend. Midnight blue with tan interior. We sooo wanted to buy it. It is a gorgeous car. My wife had an instant smile on her face as she pushed the button and the top magically dropped down and disappeared from view. The price seemed OK too, they took off about $5K for the GM employee discount and said they would add to that another $1,500 dealer cash incentive. So, we were ready to pull the trigger. Except for one thing. The engine. OK, we are not looking for an M3 but this car has no torque, none, zip, nada (and this is the bigger engine???). With the automatic, the car was very sluggish off the line and the engine/exhaust sound was very unimpressive, a wheeze rather than a growl. We own an Infiniti FX which maybe has spoiled us, but this car was a total disappointment. GM will be dropping a new V6 in the 9-3 in a few months, but by then the GM discount will be long gone. Don't know what to do, great looking car, great ride, lousy power... Maybe it is just us. Jon.
