Sales personnel need to be retrained

by smclaurin6 on 02/03/2012

I started online contacting this dealership regarding a new 2012 Kia Sorento. Dealt with Jon through the internet sales. Before I even stepped onto their lot, the price of the vehicle of interest dropped down almost $4k. When I did go to the dealership to test drive a 4 cylinder, 2.4L, AWD Sorento LX, the only one they had in stock had a broken passenger back window. Could not test drive that day. They actually wanted me to put a deposit on this vehicle as a promise that it would not be sold while it was being repaired. Obvisously I am not that stupid! When they finally called me to let me know it was ready to be test driven, I went there with a folder containing all the information about this vehicle, comparable vehicles and a blank check in hand! The salesman, Joe, did not have a working knowledge of their inventory or what the different models included. He had to go to his GM with MY information to verify. Then we all piled into the Sorento for a test drive and the car started beeping like crazy. Joe had no idea why or what to do about it. He did take any time go over the highlights of the vehicle or the differences compared to the 2005 that I was currently driving. When I asked about the "sportmatic" 6-speed transmission he told me I would probably never use it! REALLY???? I don't think he even had a clue. It was clear that my boyfriend and I knew more about this vehicle then the man selling it. Joe told us all about the neighborhood we were driving in instead. He never took us on the highway to experince the pick up of the vehicle or tried to demenstrate the traction control on this vehicle. When we returned to the dealership, there was absolutely NO effort in trying to make the sale. I had a blank check in hand to give Bald Hill Kia and they insulted me with a trade in offer on my existing 2005 Sorento that was clean as a whistle with a perfect maintenace history that was ALL performed at the dealer of purchase. They had no intentions of trying to make the sale work, instead I think they just wanted to go home as it was the end of the night. It was unfortunate as I ended up going to their biggest competitor and purchasing a brand new 2012 Kia Sorento a week later. Not only did the new dealership offer a heck of lot more for my trade, but the salesman went over every single thing in the new vehicle from the entire engine to the gas tank cover and every button in the car. He insisted on taking us on the highway and a very steep hill to show us the vehicle's true performance level. I am very happy with my new Sorento and very happy to give my money to dealership that is actually interested in selling you a car! Bald Hill should really consider re-training the sales people on the products they should be selling, on customer service and how to "haggle" a deal. It was really too bad for Bald Hill, they didn't just lose a sale, they lost all maintenace and service on a 2012 Sorento for the life of the vehicle.
