Re: Chances of receiving a cut rate final purchase price? [whoosierdaddy]

Yeah, that's what I've been finding. Admittedly, the only problem I've had with the G6 is that blasted power steering light. This is the model with the fly-by-wire PS, opposed to the hydraulic, so my best guess is the problem lies with a sensor of some sort. What the GM garage did the two times I took it back was to "reset the steering wheel position". Whatever they did was a temporary fix, because no sooner than 5 days later, the light came back on.

Well, I may still keep the G6, because I truly love it! But, to be saddled with payments for many more years for an already 3 year old car doesn't sit well. However, I have been poking around the market for a Pontiac Vibe, possibly AWD (for those crummy PA winters). I plan to go to the dealership before the lease is up to inquire about a few things, including the status of the power steering light. I also plan to visit some of the other local dealerships to see what kind of offers they can conjure up. Thanks for the help.
Chances of receiving a cut rate final purchase price?
by speakerface on Wed Jul 15 17:16:33 PDT 2009
My lease is up next month on my 2006 G6 V6. Is there a chance that the dealership does not want the car back due to the economy/not being able to move the car/is a dead brand that I can negotiate down the final purchase price and not be saddled with payments for several more years? I should note that the power steering light keeps coming on (even though there appears to be nothing wrong with the power steering), which was taken to the dealership to be repaired more than once, and was told they had no idea how to fix it properly. Would this help in said negotiations?
$13990 for 2009 Vibe 1.8 Auto - $14600 otd.
by bh1973 on Wed Jul 15 14:55:25 PDT 2009
I just paid $13990 for a brand new (80 miles) 2009 Vibe 1.8 auto w/preferred power package (sticker was $19650). With tax & tags I was otd for $14415.50 in North Carolina. If I add the $140 for the one way rental car to pick it up + $40 I spent on a Carfax, I was just under $14600. Got it from a guy on Ebay who bought it for 16800 otd - a ton of GM cash he had accumulated. His intention was to sell it so he could pocket the difference. But he was unable to get his original asking price, so he put it on Ebay for $13990 in the hope it would be bid up. It wasn't and I got it. This was about $2100 less than I could have worked a dealer down to on an otd price. I financed with a 60 month, 3.9% loan from Pentagon Federal that I plan on paying back in half the time, so add about $720 in interest. I'm thrilled with this deal! I would have preferred a 2009 Mazda3 hatchback, but would have been hard pressed to get a manual for under 19k otd.

There was a trade in involved, so discussing price is moot. I did get a very good deal though! We test drove both the 2.4 and 1.8 quite a bit, and while the 2.4 did have quite a bit more power, the 1.8 was sufficient. The extra 4 MPG w/ gas at 2.50 was not much more, but my guess is during the course of ownership gas will be double to triple current prices. We came out better much taking the rebates since only 60% was financed and my credit union has rates currently at 4.6%.
Purchased a Base Vibe 2.4
by gofish on Mon Jun 08 18:17:24 PDT 2009
Purchased base w/2.4, preferred package (power options, remote entry, cruise and rear intermittent), A/C, 5 Spd Automatic, and MP3 radio. MSRP of $20,350. Negotiated a price before rebates of $18,570. Only dealer "add-on" fee was $150 doc fee. So taxable transaction was $18,720. Rebates were then as follows: $500 base, $500 dealer cash, $1000 loyalty, $1000 bonus cash. On top of that I had $3,062 in "topped-off" GM card rebates. Price before Tax/Tags/Title then was $12,658 and OTD was $13,994 (7% sales tax plus $25.50 temp tags and title). Oh yeah, also have $400 in Citibank Drivers edge rebates which is an "after sale" mail-in rebate (applicable to any car sale whatsoever) and will see 28% of the sales tax (.28 x $1310 = $367) come back to me in the form of the Obama fed income tax stimulus passed last February! It is a great time to buy if you're in the market. The Vibe was not my first choice but probably my 3rd or 4th and the money talked. Mileage certainly not the best in this segment and driveability as many have pointed out nothing like a Mazda 3. Just felt it was the best value all things considered. Very pleased so far
