Recent buying experience -- G6 Convertible
by aaamorris on Fri Sep 01 18:31:00 PDT 2006
>>Congratulations on your new G6! Please also post your experience in Pontiac G6: Prices Paid & Buying Experience. OK, I will: I picked up my 2007 G6 convertible a few days ago. I decided on a specific color and package combination, with side airbags, and would not waiver from that position. (I really like the two-tone ebony/morocco leather seats -- takes the sportiness up a notch.) This made the search a little more difficult, but my local dealer (Tustin Pontiac) found one at another dealership and did a swap. Other dealerships offered to do the same, but only if I would sign on the dotted line first. I told them no negotiations until the car was sitting in front of me. The car arrived at my dealer two days later. I wasn't in a mood to haggle, so I printed out the pricing information from this site and said I would pay only the "what others have paid" price, which was about $500 above dealer invoice and $500 below MSRP. The dealer agreed. Amazingly, when I went into financing, the dealer had knocked off another $500, calling it a rebate or something. No silly add-ons like alarms, clear-coat, or overpriced chrome wheels. Overall, the most pleasant car buying experience I have ever had. There are not that many options for this car, but you may want to print out the option page from this site and understand the interaction between the packages. During my searching, some of the salespeople (not at Tustin Pontiac) provided some misinformation out of confusion. For example, I was told twice that I would need to find a GTP if I wanted the 3.9L engine. In reality, the GT with the sports package includes that engine. Tip for when you are cruising the lots: If the car has two chrome exhaust tips, it has the 3.9L engine. In addition to the larger engine, the sports package adds the StabiliTrak, 18 inch wheels, automatic air conditioning and 6-way power driver seat. I'm 6-2, and my head hits the roof on the passenger's side, but I can move the driver's seat down, which provides ample headroom. Also take a hard look at the premium package (which is required if you get the sports package). That package also gives you the power driver seat, the leather "appointed" seats, remote vehicle starter system, and a mandatory item for me -- XM radio. I've only had the car a few days now, but I really love it so far. No problems with the top. Spent most of a day driving up and down the coast, and I took it on the ferry to Balboa Island. It is quite the head-turner, especially when the top is going up or down.

"You may be right. But then again, every incentive the car company offers, they get the money back somewhere else. So the 0%/72 months on the '06 means they have less room to discount the sticker on those cars. I think the dealers will be more resistant to bargain on the 2006s for the 72 hr deal. These guys aren't here to give away cars. That's my view." Why would the dealers have less room? The car costs the dealer xxx amount of dollars, period. The manufacturers dont(impossible) set the profit margins for dealers. The dealers have nothing to do with factory incentives. Those are set by the manufacturer.
Re: 2005 GT - Good Deal? [xjeepinhamster]
by jstant01 on Wed Mar 08 09:15:37 PST 2006
Sounds like a good deal to me. That price is about what I paid for my base Vibe. Personally, I'm not a fan of the GT, at least based on my test drive experience. Throw in the fact that it requires premium gas (or at least highly recommends it) and I quickly lost interest since the car I was driving at the time also required premium. Another factor to consider is that your resale value will likely remain at least a bit higher because you will have a 2005 that doesn't start racking up miles until 2006. That happened with my last car - a 2000 Ford Contour SE. I bought it with 70 miles on it February of 2001, so when I traded it in, the miles were "low" for what's expected of a 2000 model year car. If you're OK with the GT engine and six-speed, I would say go for it! Hope you like to live in high-RPM land! :-)
What's after Red Tag, I wonder...
by rcc442 on Wed Jan 04 21:15:23 PST 2006
OK, so the Red Tag sale is over, and unlike Ford and Chrysler, GM has not extended their program. However, it appears the $2000 rebate is still available. Here in South Florida, the number of '05's on the lots has dwindled significantly with the end of the Red Tag promotion, but the one I have my eye on hasn't sold yet. So, I wonder what will be next... Will the rebate simply go up to $3000 as it did for the '04's? Will we see another promotion? Or, will the dealers simply get an incentive (as reported elsewhere in this forum) as they did last January for the '04's? Anyone know if the dealers have any extra incentives now? (Knowing if there are any would help in negotiating a price.) Unfortunately by waiting, the extra GM Card Bonus cash ($500) also expired on Jan 3.... My worst fear is that things will simply stay the way they are right now and the dealers will be able to sell the remaining '05's simply with the customer rebate, making the '05's $2000 less than the '06's "while they last". (By the way, I saw a new orange '06 yesterday... personally, I don't like the color at all (and I usually like orange... the old "Hugger Orange" from 1972, to be exact!). The new red is not bad, but it is only available with a black interior, not the red leather.)
Leasing 2006 G6
by motcrue68 on Wed Oct 19 21:40:06 PDT 2005
Just picked up my G6 today. I just wanted to ask if my monthly lease payments are in the ballpark with everyone else. It's a 2006 6cyl sedan (3.5L), AP3-remote vehicle starter, PCH-premium value package Alloy wheels, 6 disc cd , sunroof, power tilt and slide, PDD-conveniance package power adj pedals, floor mats, cargo net, T43-rear spoiler, JL9- 4 wheel anti-lock brks w/ traction contrl. Adj cap cost was $21361.51, trade-in $1000, And $1000 cash. This included 1st month payment, registration fee, and a few other items. Bottom line $279.49. Does this sound OK?

Please post the MSRP bottom line price on the Mulrooney sticker. If you already know the "invoice price with all your options", (be advised that the dealers have a $1500.00 " mfg. to dealer incentive" to get rid of the 2005's. (there is a 500.00 rebate for the customer on the 2006 models, so take it from there.Forget the taxes, title and tags when posting. Was there any dealer added fees? If you subtact the $1500.00 from the "invoice price, then I assume you received a good deal (but just remember this model is now one year old as far as trade-in would be considered; however, if you are intending to keep the Vibe for many years, then that part would not be a major factor. Let us know. Did that 20.5K include tax, tags and title??? Was it AWD or FWD.???There is almost 3000.00 difference in that alone. We need all the facts.
