there are some in Illinois: by stormdavy on Sun Jul 08 06:48:55 PDT 2007; Just yesterday I saw an almost-hidden black 2004 automatic w/ about 10K mi in the back of a dealer's (Tom Sparks) lot. I keep thinking I'll buy one of these (w/ manual trans.)now that they are a few years old and just have something more fun to drive than my 1994 Audi! Concerns about how bad the gas mileage is, and the strut problems: are they fixable or would it be an ongoing issue.

Bad Dealer Experience: by rob999 on Thu Mar 31 12:03:33 PST 2005; Grrrrr. I'm considering trading my current car, and I've been interested in the GTO for a while, so today I decided to go to a dealer (on Golf Road, Schaumburg, IL) during my lunch hour for a test drive. (I'm a middle-aged guy, dressed conservatively / business casual, and driving a late model car.) I parked right next to the front door and was looking at a GTO parked just outside the entrance. A sales guy popped out about 5 seconds later and asked if I wanted anything. Told him I was interested in test-driving a 6-speed GTO. Immediately he started coming up with excuses like: "this is a PERFORMANCE car - we normally don't do test drives" and "well, are you going to buy TODAY" ? He wouldn't even let me drive one of the left-over 2004 cars. What a bunch of crap! Before I bought our Saab the sales guy gave me the keys and let me have the car for the afternoon. I probably could've gone into any import showroom where cars are 2-3 times as expensive as the GTO and would have been allowed a test drive in a heartbeat. I might've expected this attitude when the GTO first came out last year and dealers were tacking on $3,000 to MSRP, but now we're talking about 2004-model cars with significant incentives. Have any of you others experienced a similar attitude lately?

Re: GM Card points and other stuff [hammen2]: by carfact on Tue Jan 04 18:16:18 PST 2005; I did get the GM Card postcard that had the $6K offer for the GTO, SSR, and SRX V-8. They also "topped-off" my $3,000 bonus and added $500 or a total of $3,500 for about a dozen other '05 GM vehicles, a G6 being one of them. For some customers it was called "round-up" instead of "top-off"?   I was down to $19,600 for a GTO Pulse Red Auto after all the shenanigans, $11K in rebates, or about $120 a month 2 year lease(IL taxes on the full price of the car before incentives).   Believe it or not I went with the G6 instead and got $10K of rebates including my GM $3,500 bonus. I guess the practical side got the better of me, and now the G6 can stay outside on the driveway with the remote start feature. $13K for a loaded 2005 G6 including TTL, MSRP was $23K. Sell it in about 6 months take the profit and start looking for the '05 GTO deals down the road?

If you don't mind me asking.....approx. how much did you save by going with a single lease payment as opposed to a monthly payment? I'd heard that there is a GMAC lease admin charge of $495? and other deposit fees involved besides tax and interest that possibly were part of your $1,272 payment? I live in IL and think my tax is based on the full purchase price of the car instead of the lease duration portion.   I'm going to the dealership tomorrow for some fun negotiation time and number crunching and found your information very useful.   Thanks
