Still lovin it
by whoosierdaddy on Mon Jul 06 07:48:53 PDT 2009
My Goodyears are made in Oklahoma (huh?), per the code letters. After 4 months and 5500 miles still lovin' my G8, although probably a little less if gas prices go way up again.
Re: june or july rebate? [fmtn_tiger]

There was a trade in involved, so discussing price is moot. I did get a very good deal though! We test drove both the 2.4 and 1.8 quite a bit, and while the 2.4 did have quite a bit more power, the 1.8 was sufficient. The extra 4 MPG w/ gas at 2.50 was not much more, but my guess is during the course of ownership gas will be double to triple current prices. We came out better much taking the rebates since only 60% was financed and my credit union has rates currently at 4.6%.
2009 Vibe 1.8 Base -- Price Paid 11/1
by collegepool on Thu Nov 06 12:13:45 PST 2008
I'm the happy owner of a 1.8 L base Vibe with the 5 speed manual transmission with Preferred Package (power locks, windows, cruise). Couldn't be happier, it's a wonderful car and my first American car (yeah, it's part Toyota, I know.. sticker says 69% American parts, 31% Japanese parts). Anyway, price paid $15,600, plus destination fee to haul it in from out of state, plus some documentation fees. That's with the $500 discount, by the way. Plus tax tag, etc. Carl Black GM in Roswell, GA will treat you right. Negotiate the car down with them, they worked with me pretty well on it. Got the car I wanted for the price I wanted. Fantastic car, we really love it.
V6 vs V8
by whoosierdaddy on Wed May 27 08:12:33 PDT 2009
You will find discussions--often spirited--of V6 vs. V8 and other topics at websites devoted to the Pontiac G8, such as www.G8board.com. The MPG that V8 owners report seems to vary widely depending on driving style and percent of highway driving (where VCM can kick in). A buddy of mine has owned a G8-GT (V8) for a year. He drives aggressively and loves to mash the pedal because that’s what puts a smile on his face. He says he averages 13-point-something MPG in mostly city/suburban driving, doing the math at the gas pump. With 3500 miles on my V6, I’m averaging 19+ in mixed city/suburban/highway conditions. I don’t think about saving gas, I just drive. The bottom line is this: If you crave acceleration that slams you back in the seat, get the V8. While the V6 is no slouch, it makes more noise than go when you punch it. If you just want a smooth ride and tight handling in a car that looks good, at a very reasonable price, you will be more than satisfied with the V6. Dealers in Indianapolis are now advertising the G8 at $8100 off MSRP after rebates & discounts.

Gas Mileage

Just drive my new GT home. Love it!! Wondering if the gas mileage improves after a couple of tanks. Not too bad on the highway 23. What are others getting?
