finally bought a 2009 nissan altima 2.5s (standard option with splash guard & floor mat) at $20500 (OTD tax rate 7%). Finance rate is 5.74% for 48 month.

Looking to purchase a new Altima Coupe 2.5s CVT soon. Should I aim for $18,500 for the base model, or is that too high? Also, what would be a good deal for the 2.5s with the convenience package included? Truecar.com has the convenience package listed at $20,500, and the base at $19,500 in my area - including the Nissan rebate.

Thanks for your detailed information. My local dealer insists on the msrp-rebate, which is $22505-$1500, and they said i am not qualified for the $500 college grad because i am not graduated within past 6 months...

No, I haven't yet purchased the Altima 2.5S in Milwaukee yes, but I did go in on Friday (7/10/09) and the dealership drew up a contract, so I can tell you how much the price would have been OTD. I didn't take it because I wanted to negotiate the scrap value for my 93 Jeep. MSRP $22,505 (Nissan Altima 2.5S 4dr CVT with Splash Guards and Floor Mats (the base S model)) + Service Fee $179 (legally authorized in WI and I negotiated with this fee built into the final price. similar to a 'doc fee' in other states) - "discount" $3341 = $19,343 negotiated price + $1083.21 = 5.6% sales tax (rebates are taxed in WI, but not in all states) + $113 gov't fees for registration, plate transfer - $6,500 rebates: $4,500 CARS, $1,500 July Customer Cash (instead of finance rate), $500 college grad = $14039.21 OTD (not including down payment) Even with the requirement of financing through them, the rate is around 6% for well-qualified customers, so the $1,500 cash is going to be better than the 2.9% finance rate for most people as long as you put some money down.
