Hi, I am in upstate NY (Albany) and was wondering what is a good price for the mentioned car before any rebates, etc. Is below invoice possible? Any info is appreciated. Also, any great dealers within 100 miles who are known for low pricing? Thanks, Matty

Question on the extended warranty... I purchased a 5 year, 100,000 mile "Classic" warranty for my Subaru Tribeca for $1000 (thought that was a great deal) but I put a lot of mileage on that vehicle (around 35,000 per year) The NAH for my wife and historically she drives around 10,000 miles per year. I will probably "borrow" the car from her for a day once in a while when I have a long day trip to go on to save a few bucks;. On a typical trip from home (near Providence, RI) to Albany NY & back around 400 miles. Tribeca gets around 20 mpg so 20 gallons premium = $65, I figure with Altima 11.5 gallons regular around $35 so I can save around $30 for that trip. Once a month I drive to Montreal, almost 800 miles round trip can save about $60 on those. I love my Tribeca and in lousy weather would still take that vehicle. At at rate, anyone out there have any comments on extended warranty for the NAH. I was thinking maybe 7 years, 70,000 miles might be a little more realistric. Or, gamble & get nothing at all. Of course the dealer trying to sell me one of those, and I know they are very profitable to the dealer. But, certainly not going to spend $1500 or so. Comments from anyone on this board would be greatly appreciated!

We just purchased a 1.8 S in the 6-speed with the power package, ABS, and the aluminum kickplates. According to the Consumer Reports fact sheet I bought, the invoice on this car was $12,680 + 607 + 217 + 67 = $13,571. The holdback, according to CR was $241 (which might actually be low, because they calculated the HB on the base model without extras), so I'm assuming the dealer had $13,330 in the car. There were two dealers with almost the same model in the Albany, NY area (the only difference on the alternate car was that it had the floor mats instead of the kickplates): Nemith and Lia. We went through two rounds of bidding by phone with the dealers. The final purchase price was $13,671 from Nemith; Lia went to $13,900 on their car. Both dealers were easy to work with on the phone. The final bottom line was $13,671 + 1093.68 (tax) + 67.50 (doc fees) = $14,832.18 OTD. If you count the doc fees as pure profit (which they probably aren't), we got the car for 408.50 over dealer cost, or a markup of about 3.1%.

I've been doing most of my negotiating for an 06 LE 4WD with Navigation package over the internet. I've been contacting and getting quotes from various dealers from Albany to Jersey to Baltimore. The best quotes i've been getting are from Jersey, outside of NYC. The cheapest one is with splash guards, floor mats and sun roof deflector. MSRP-$38, 565 Invoice-$35,025(after manny rebate) Quote-$33,195(after manny rebate) 1) Is this too good to be true? 2 grand UNDER invoice? am i going to get a bait and switch or other BS once i go in and pursue this? Realistically, what horror stories have you heard regarding stuff like this and what should I expect. 2) At what point do i spring on the dealer that i want to lease? Over the internet? After i go all the way out to the showroom? 3) I have an excellent credit score of 792. What Money factor should I expaect/demand? 4) Realistically, what differences are there for a 36 vs. a 39-month lease. 5) should i be armed with an actual lease proposal from an alternative leasing company when i walk in to the dealership in case i don't like the lease that Nissan's leasing company proposes for me? I'm also considering buying or leasing a Certified Pre-Owned 05 LE 4WD that i found, instead. i'm not quoite sure how to calculate the lease deal for a used car. I can't find any advice online for leasing Pre-Owned. any advice? Bill
