Buying a car from a Nissan Car Dealer

OH Nissan Car Consumer Discussions

It's a good thing I really wanted it... by joerarey on Mon Aug 23 13:55:14 PDT 2010

Just closed the deal with Matt Castrucci Nissan near Dayton, OH on a 36month / 15k miles per year lease of an Altima Coupe, 3.5SR Winter Frost w Blond leather, prem pkg, mats, kickplates, spoiler with the following breakdown: MSRP $32,710 Base Cap Cost $28,467 (the negotiated price of the car) Dealer Acquisition Fee $595 Up Front Sales Tax + Fees $1,237 Gross Capitalized Cost $30,299 (the neg. price with the fees added back in) Down Payments $0 Bonus Cash Rebate $500 Lease Loyalty Rebate $3000 (Nissan's best kept secret and the amount varies by car) Net Capitalized Cost $26,799 (or 'OTD' in terms of a sale) Residual Value $16,639 Money Factor 0.00133 Term of Lease 36 / 15k Monthly Lease Payment $340.00 The most striking thing about this go round of buying (leasing) a car is that out of 8 dealers that I made contact with there were only three dealers that really made the effort to close a deal. Thanks to the great info here and other research I knew the exact car I wanted, knew there were only one or two in the entire region, and knew all the details of my lease turn in and a new lease. The only thing to discuss was bottom line price. Long story short Tom Wood Nissan and Butler Nissan in Indy as well as the dealer closest to me, Castrucci Nissan, really wanted to sell me a car. Butler started playing a shell game with the rebates and eliminated themselves. Even Castrucci originally dropped the ball when the salesman I was dealing with left on a 1 week vacation without any sort of a handoff, I ended up dealing there directly with the Asst Sales Mgr. who was awesome to work with. Once we began talking price it took about 20 minutes to agree to terms, and another two days for him to retrieve the car from West Virginia. The sales person at Tom Wood was a very respectful pro and they were very competitive, but the distance (100miles) was a factor. If not for that they would have won my business. Thanks to Car_Man and all the other posters here for all the info. It was very valuable in helping me wind up with what I consider to be very good deal.

Re: Bought 2008 2.0S CVT with splash guards, Body-color side moldings and mats [love_luv] by chrishallowell on Thu Sep 18 06:20:10 PDT 2008

I bought it from the Nissan Dealer in Middleburg Heights, OH (West side of Cleveland). I guess dealers are greedy and they want to make money, even off their friends. GM had the Employee discount going on and I test drove 2 of their cars. They said they couldn't go 1 penny below that Employee discount because it was GM's rule. I don't believe that (Sounds too simple and easy); but either way, that discount was above or at invoice. That doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

Car buying experience/story by chrishallowell on Mon Sep 15 14:10:00 PDT 2008

Just want to share with everyone what I experienced... 1. "Internet specials" all quoted the invoice price and wouldn't go below that unless we went to the dealership and haggled. 2. About 80% of the time we got a "new salesman." Every dealer said the car we wanted was hot and selling like crazy. 3. It was fun to walk into a dealership(Hyundai in North Olmstead, OH) and test drive an '08 Elantra. Then sit at the salesman's desk and listen to him offer a one-time deal of MSRP+$800! (I countered with an invoice-$3000. The poor salesman looked like he saw a ghost. I caught him off guard.) 4. I eventually found a dealership(Middleburg, OH) and bought the car from Mike, a 30+ year veteran. Highly recommend their dealership on the west side of Cleveland, OH. According to everyone elses price on this forum, I got screwed but I could hardly get dealers to go below invoice. I went to 3 around here and every one of them laughed me out the door when I asked for $1000 below invoice. Anyway, I'm satisfied with how it all went and I am enjoying my new car. Thanks for everyone who shared their prices/experiences.

Re: How is this deal? [blov8r] by skinsfan3 on Tue Aug 19 10:11:12 PDT 2008

Time has passed since I bought my 2003 Altima with full sports package. At that time the MSRP was over $26k and I bough for $20K using Costco I had a good credit rating, so I got about 1% financing through Nissan. I figure that, on 5 years, knocked about $5k off of my purchase price. I now have 60k miles on the car and it looks the same as the day I picked it up. I have friends who paid more. When you buy, always ask for the "Out the door" price. That should stop those last minute extras. Also, watch out for bait and switch.' There is a reason why buying a car is an aggravating experience. Times are tough out there now, so you are well positioned to get a great deal. Did you know that Nissan sells a hybrid Altima? But only on the west coast. Maybe if you push, you can get a dealer to move one over.Oh, wihin the first 11k miles of 12 months I was able to buy bumper to bumper insurance ($250 deductible) from my insurance company, GEICO, for well under $100. That had paid for itself by now.
