As a Out of State buyer, I signed a purchase contract with White Plains Lincoln - Mercury NY through FORD Credit. The license, title and registration fee was listed $170.00 on the Ford Credit contract. The Salesman (Dan Taylor) was to transfer existing CT vehicle registration through CT DMV, instead he took it upon himself to simply apply for new registration, even after I faxed him the requested copy of my current CT veteran's registration. During the first week, Dan Taylor couldn't acquire a duplicate title from NY DMV, after one week, the duplicate was displayed to me, I wasn't allowed to hold and read it. I was given a NY Transit Temporary Registration and told the registration would come within two weeks. Dan didn't say it would come by mail, his words were carefully spoken, it would come within two weeks. After the second week (nearly three), I received a call from Mr. Taylor, who informed me the new plates are there and I could pick them up the next day?! I asked him to overnight them to me. He said after I pay him $135.00. Had I driven there the next day, I would not have had the funds, as he was not going to inform me of the $135 fee, if I had not asked him to overnight them. I later contacted the Sales Manager, who informed me they used the $170.00 fee for an outside service, which acquires out of state registrations for White Plains Lincoln - Mercury. He averred the $135.00 fee was separate from the Ford Credit contact listing $170.00 for license, title and registration fee. I was told it was the dealer paid for the Connecticut registration and if I wanted them, I would have to pay the additional fee. This doesn't seem right to me, if there are any NY lawyers out there who might have knowledge that this is improper, please post any information concerning their business practice as illegal or legal. Thank you! Oh, Dan Taylor (Sales Rep) don't believe him if he ever tells you, he'll have your vehicle's gas tank topped off before you leave his lot, nor is his word honorable if he tells you to mail him the gas receipt, he will tell you later he never got it in the mail. My opinion of him, he is not a honorable man on his words.
