Wasted an entire day today, going to Terrytown from New York City, set to buy a $11,999 Subaru, money in hand, after having lost my car to Hurricane Sandy. A soft spoken sales person answered my call, expressing how dedicated they were to helping Sandy victims find a new car. This was not the case when I got there. After having the vehicle independently inspected I was informed that rear breaks would not last more than 5000 miles, back tires wouldn't last a year (they had only replaced 2 tires even though it was an AWD that need all tires replaced at once. Transmission fluid was dirty, and so was air filter. The whole buying experience turned into a hellish one, when I demanded that all tires should be replaced, as Luis and Eddie tried to scam me of more and more money, for instance by eliminating promised discount in exchange for new tires, then slapping on a $785 "prep fee" and a $235 DMV transfer of registration fee. After an hour of this I ended up walking out on the deal. These are the type of car dealers that give the profession a bad name. They are ruthless, and I would avoid them at any cost.
