Started out nice, but ended badly! Read the entire

by Ray B on 11/10/2020

Started out nice, but ended badly! Read the entire review. Busy place! But they were good to work with and we made a good deal. Fair price on trade-in using carfax numbers. Sharalynn was good with the follow up regarding the scheduling of the appointment. Our designated sales person Damian was very comfortable to work with as he was no pressure, truthful and direct. I would definitely buy another car there. Well not NOW, read update below! Update 11/9/20 - I purchased two honda accords on 10/3/20. I was contacted by the bank who financed my trade-in 11/9/20 as the small amount remaining was not paid off yet and the bank was looking for payment. My wife called the finance department and left a message. I was just steaming about this as it effects our credit rating. Here we were thinking this deal is done. I called and asked for the General Manager of the dealership and was told I would receive a return call. Ed from the sales department called me up and ask what was wrong and I briefly explained that my trade-in was not paid off from a deal that was done on 10/3/20. I asked to speak to the highest ranking member of management and still wanted to do this. If the company was not going to be truthful in their deals and not pay off notes on trade-in I would take the [non-permissible content removed] hondas back. Ed hung up on me. I then called the General Sales manager Amir and explained my situation and that I am extremely unhappy about this and wanted to speak to the General Manager of the dealership and he say that he was not there. I asked if he could look into this issue in the meantime, which he agreed to do. I explained that I talked with Ed, but Ed hung up on our conversation. Amir explained that Ed hung up because I used a curse word (I said [non-permissible content removed] hondas) and that I should not disrespect Ed by using profanity. Since I didn't swear at Ed and used it as an expression of frustration, I thought this was a little over sensitive as he apparently took it personally, but OK. Amir did get back to me to explain a check went in mail on 11/4/20. I asked Amir if the deal was completed on 10/3/20, why would it be acceptable to send a check over a month later! He said he didn't know. As of 11/10/20 the bank has not received the check. I told Amir that I still wanted to talk to the GM and that I wasn't joking about returning the Hondas. Interesting points * No return call from finance department * No return call from the GM of dealership * No one apologized that this happened * No sense of urgency about this situation made me feel that this was a common occurrence. Checking with the bank regularly to see when and if a payoff check comes to payoff the balance. If not, will start legal action. Don't trust this dealership to payoff your trade-in. NOT HAPPY WITH THIS DEALERSHIP AND WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER CAR FROM THEM REGARDLESS OF THE RESPONSE NOW. BBB rating 1 star out of 5 stars. Many integrity issues at this dealership.

Do not buy any vehicle from here

by Point78 on 01/21/2019

I bought a used hybrid Civic with low miles. I inquired about certain fees added on and was told it is for if you car gets stolen Honda pays you $5,000 I told her my sales representative I do not want this or to pay for this as this is what I pay insurance for. She told me I'll see what I can do which I'm not taking it out on her. It is the general manager who really shows the character of freehold Honda. He was a tall bald middle aged man. He comes over and says I will cut the price down of the fee from $300 to $150 I told him I just don't understand I don't want this fee I pay insurance for this reason. He leaves she comes back now he won't take any money off this fee. Well all I have to say is Karma. That general manger is crooked and so is this dealership. Not to mention the 1,000 fees you pay for detailing and such. They basically just wash the car. I also test drove a light silver hybrid 2015. The price at the time was 14,500 I inquired why the 2015 hybrid Civic I bought with no leather interior was a thousand more. The silver hybrid had 1,000 more miles on it yet it had leather heated seats in it. After I picked up my car do you believe I they raised the price of that 2015 silver hybrid to $16,977. More than $2,500 in a matter of seven days. I also know someone from the Honda training facility he works there and told me the car is a good car but the dealship iskniw to be shady and dishonest. The have a bad name and if I knew before finding this used hybrid Civic I would never go there no recommend them to anyone.

Incompetent, Dishonest. Unprofessional

by DeanEdmiston on 09/14/2018

The staff at Honda of Freehold are the most incompetent and dishonest I have ever encountered. John Rivera was the sales advisor I initially met with when I started looking at vehicles. He was pleasant and made all kinds of promises up to the point of sale. After the sale was final he became bitter and never came through with the promises he made with the vehicle. He couldn’t make any decisions without consulting with his manager. His knowledge of the process of purchasing a vehicle was slim to none. Mike Simpson is the finance manager at Honda of Freehold who pushed for me to purchase an extended warranty on the vehicle I purchased but afterwards I had questions and concerns about the warranty that he could not answer He would tell me he would get back to me but never did. I left numerous voice messages with him that he never returned to this this day. I finally reached out to Reneir Basulto who is the General Manager. After finally reaching him I expressed my concerns with the vehicle and the way his staff was reacting. He had no empathy towards the problem and finally agreed to pay for some compensation but never delivered even after acknowledging Emails about it. Shortly after I tried reaching out to him to find out what the delay was. I left numerous messages with the receptionist because he does not have a working voice mail. He never returned any of my calls. I also left him numerous Emails which he he never responded. I have bought numerous cars from different dealerships in my lifetime and have never been treated as bad as I have at Honda of Freehold. This is the most unpleasant car buying experience I have had. The staff at Honda of Greehold behave like shady used car salesmen you see or hear about in commercials or movies. I recommend going to Hamilton Honda in Hamilton NJ. They have a respectable staff and a large inventory of vehicles. All new and used vehicles come with free car wash and oil change for life of vehicle at no extra cost to buyer. If you can’t make the ride to Hamilton at least try DCH KAY Honda which is not far from Honda of Freehold. They have to be better then the staff at Honda of Freehold. I can’t imagine Honda of Freehold being open much longer operating like they do now. I have never wrote an Edmunds review before but I did this time to warn the good hard working people in NJ. I also initiated my first ever Better Business Bureau complaint. I also wrote a review on the service department of Honda of Freehold which you can read by clicking on service department reviews under Edmunds Reviews.

would give a zero if system allowed - terrible experience with sales rep

by dawn on 09/10/2018

very disappointed in my experience with this dealership and the sales rep we had. complete waste of time. was lied to and wasted 1.5 hours of time. i was very upfront with sales rep I had a written price quote from another dealership I asked if she could beat it She told me on more than 4 occasions she could and would beat it if we would sign paperwork that night. We agreed - however she came back with incorrect paperwork 3x - year of vehicle first, then a demo - after we stated several times brand new - by the way she ut on paperwork and never mentioned - if we didnt read closely we may not have noticed - then lastly she draws up papers with the same exact quote i walked in there with. Very dishonest, unprofessional - would not recommend this dealership to anyone. I did call the General Sales Manager who apologized for rep - but really didn't care

Old School Bait & Switch!

by peterR2000 on 09/05/2018

AVOID THIS DEALERSHIP! OLD SCHOOL [non-permissible content removed]!! did my homework and shopped the internet for the best deal. called this [non-permissible content removed]! and asked if they could "match it" as they were closer than the dealership 2hrs away. after several emails and phone calls, going over every cost and fee and lease rate and down payment, the salesman said "yes, i spoke with my manager, we can match it!" we drove one hour to arrive at a not so nice showroom with not many cars to choose from, but a honda dealer none the less. after an hour of running my excellent credit, going over the car features and filling out numerous documents, the moment of truth arrived, the real deal! low and behold a mysterious $1700 appeared on the invoice!! the salesman played dumb, although he probably was not the sharpest tool, and calmly said "oh must have been a computer error". he leaves to correct it and comes back with the [non-permissible content removed]! manager who proceeded to insult my wife and I by saying "you really expected to come in here and get this car for that deal!" ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!??? we quickly left before i lowered myself to this [non-permissible content removed]! level and may never buy a new car again!

MOLD IN A BRAND NEW 2018 CIVIC SI COUPE

by ESPO on 07/18/2018

I'm a huge fan of honda and always thought it was the best make in its class. I just bought a brand new 2018 honda civic si coupe from this dealer and absolutely love it. However, the way this dealership goes about things is a different story. I played for a new car with no problems. If it had a headlight out I can understand switching it out. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 3 DAYS AND ALREADY NOTICED MOLD ON THE FLOOR OF THE BACK 2 SEATS. I took it to the dealer, the cleaned it no problem. I didnt think about it any further, but I should have made into a bigger deal since new cars should never run into a problem like this. ON DAY 8 OF ME OWNING THE CAR, I was showing my dad the new car and we open up the trunk and where the donut should be, THE TRUNK IS FILLED WITH WATER! I immediately called them the next day and they tell me they cant to anything until Monday (2 days from now) and they would only clean it. This is not what I bought. I bought a new car. Before this i had a 2008 honda civic for a long time without ever even considering the possibility of having mold in my vehicle. I will not be satisfied with this dealer unless the replace my car with a new car with 0 mold problems at all. I really dont think im making any crazy demands since the car is only 8 days old still has under 300 miles on it.

STAY AWAY FROM HERE

by Debbyah on 06/08/2018

My husband and I received a promotion in the mail. It stated what kind of car we had and what our payments were on our 2016 Hyundai accent. it said that they could possibly lower our payments. So we decided to check it out. When we got there we were introduced to Damien. I explained to him from the start that our credit was not good. I was out of work for a period of time. So they ran our credit and told us that they could work with us. but we had to surrender our 2016 Hyundai back to the bank and it wouldn't effect our credit that bad being it was a surrender and not a repo. So after my husband and I talked about it we decided to surrender the car back to the bank and make what ever payments there would be after the bank sells the car because we didn't want to short the bank it's money. We were also told that if we surrendered our car we would get the financing from Honda Financial and as long as we were not late on any of our payments and everything was up to date like we had with our 2016 Hyundai, we would be fine and customers of Honda financial for life. So we agreed to this. After sitting there for 5 hours and watching Damien take every customer before us, we were finally given the option of test driving a 2018 Honda HRV which we loved. We were told that we could lease the car for the same payments that we were making on our Hyundai. So after signing the lease agreement (which they did not honor) we finally left. We never signed any paperwork from the bank but we were told that the paperwork would be sent to us via mail so we wouldn't have to come back in to sign. Well after having the car for 2 weeks and never receiving any paperwork or even a phone call we started calling them but never got an answer. Then we get a letter in the mail stating that our financing was not approved. We started to really panic. e were finally able to speak to someone on the phone, I had to take a day off from work which is not an easy thing to do to go there and try to fix the situation. When we got there we were able to speak to a few people and were told that they were diligently working on our situation. They told us that it could take a while to leave and they would call and tell us when to come in. While we were on our way home we got a call to come back. We were told by Mike in finance that they could not get us approved for the lease but they could try and put us in a older used car. At this point we were afraid to trust them or believe anything that they say so we had them take us home. We were fortunate that the young man that took us home was the sweetest person, Mr. Cory Jordan. Needless to say we now are down to one car when we need 2. Our credit is worse than it was before all because we were assured that we would be getting into the Honda CRV and we would be customers for life. I am very upset with this whole situation and now we are working hard to find some bank to approve us so we can get another very needed car. I doubt very much if anything can or will be done about this from Freehold Honda. We are seeing if any legal action can and should be taken. This was not handled right. We are putting this out there so others will not have to deal with what we are dealing with.

I WAS ready to buy

by J.B. on 12/01/2017

We came in to buy a Honda Elite, ready to write the check, oh WAIT you have to finance to get the price, I proceeded to show the floor manager Scott all the emails back an forth saying no financing needed. Well sorry we lose our rebate from Honda if you don't so if you don't finance we have to add $500.00 to the cost. WHAT? and Also Anthony (floor manager) said you would take the TLP off this is a "bull" charge that if you total your car they will give you $2500.00 to spend at there dealership, well actually $2100.00 because I paid for it. We did not want that and Anthony said he would take it off..Well they decided that had to stay also. We got up and walked out, they lost a Pilot Elite sale no questions for LIES. November 30th got an email, if you come in , maybe somethings can change. Whats wrong Freehold Honda, didn't make your quota.

Experience and Amazing Service

by KimBagwell on 10/03/2017

I don't normally write reviews but I do need to for this particular Salesman, Brad Kessel. I haven't had to purchase a vehicle in a long time, and part of the challenge I have always had was being pushed into buying one or feeling like it was a constant struggle to do so. Brad not only was very up front and honest, but he took the time to explain everything, he actually didn't push me into buying anything.. he just let me test drive what I wanted, told me about each one as we did, and let me decide what was best for me. To me, and my experience, I didn't feel like I was speaking to a salesman, it felt like a friend I was just speaking with to find out more details about the cars -- so if you are looking for a down to earth person, who doesn't push you into a car, Brad is your guy -- he's a gem, one of the best and I highly recommend him to anyone...He kindness and warmth are natural qualities every salesman should have. He's a genuine people person -- so Kudos to hiring this man.. he's a keeper! Thank you again Brad for all you do!

Most Knowledgeable & Geniune Car Salesman

by TPC on 08/30/2017

Brad Kessel is the most genuine and knowledgeable car salesman I have ever met. My experience with him was excellent and contrary to my past experiences with car dealerships, it was actually pleasant and pretty efficient. When my wife and I left, we both said at the same time that Brad was the best car salesman we had ever dealt with. Aside from being friendly without being pushy, Brad actually knew about the car I was interested in and was able to thoughtfully explain the car's features. The process from start to finish was also pretty quick. Aside from waiting a little bit for a salesman to help me when I first came in, everything else was pretty quick. I didn't have to wait long to actually test drive the car and didn't have to wait for hours while Brad went back and forth to speak with his manager about price, etc. Brad's manager Scott actually came out after one round or so and sat with us to help negotiate the price and terms quicker and saved me a ton of time. On top of that, I already owned another Honda hybrid and without any promise that I would buy a car from him, Brad went out of his way to explain to me a bunch of features on my Honda hybrid (which I bought from a different dealership) that the car salesman at the other dealership either didn't know about or couldn't be bothered to explain to me. I normally rank car buying right alongside going to the dentist, waiting on line at the department of motor vehicles, swimming with sharks, surgery without anesthesia, being stung by a thousand bees, (insert your most unpleasant experience imaginable), but Brad and his manager Scott actually made my car buying experience a painless one where I felt like I got the car I needed and wanted for a fair price and without feeling like I got the bait-and-switch or had to run a marathon in order to get the car I wanted at a price I thought was reasonable. I'm not related to Brad, he didn't pay me for this review and I normally never even write car reviews but my experience with Brad was so surprisingly good that I am happy to write this review and say that I would highly recommend seeing Brad at Honda of Freehold for a car.

Deceitful sales tactics

by MBinMarlboro on 07/19/2017

I received an email with price on a vehicle. When I arrived, I was told (ready for the big surprise), the emailed price was a mistake. The salesman said they would "honor" the price - well, that would have been the right thing to do. But then they added to that price nonsense/sleaze add-ons (stolen vehicle "gap" insurance, dealer preparation), re-added the delivery charge (which was inclusive in the website quote), to come back to almost MSRP, and negotiate from there. They stole two hours of my time. Hard to trust any sales organization that behaves like this one. Also carefully read all the positive reviews on several dealer ratings sites. They appear to be written by the same person, over and over again. Same words, same grammar, same messages, similar stories. If true, what kind of dealership needs to pay their staff to write fake reviews?

Terrific Buying Experience

by KenQ on 05/18/2017

i recently purchased a 2017 Honda CR-V at Honda of Freehold, and what is usually a stressful buying experience, turned into a stress-free and very pleasant endeavor. This was accomplished primarily through the efforts of the salesman involved, Kevin McKenna, who was knowledgeable, understanding, very helpful, and at the same time respectful of me as a buyer without any hint of trying to sell me a vehicle at all cost. The negotiations were fair and led to my ultimate purchase. When it was time to pickup my vehicle, it was ready as promised. Before I left the dealership, I was given a tutorial in all of the features and fine points offered by the vehicle, and for that lesson I would like to thank Brad who was as knowledgeable about the car and as courteous as you could ask for. Thanks to all for turning this buying experience into a very pleasant one.

Would never buy another car here

by NotTooHappy on 05/12/2017

I have had nothing but problems since I bought my HR-V at the Freehold location. The car is great but the service I received was horrendous. When we were promised certain things and did not receive them, when we would call and speak with the person who promised them, they no longer worked for the dealership. This happened with management, finance, parts and service. I had to keep following up with via phone. Rarely get a phone call back. I am not one to complain, and I give people the benefit of the doubt, but the employees at this dealership are unprofessional. The finance manager Mike is the worst. So rude and disrespectful. Oh, we also pointed out to a manager that a car in the showroom had a dent in it. (My husband does heavy collision body work on cars, so he notices everything.) The manager obviously didn't care because 3 weeks later it was still in the show room. I guess they will try to get over on anyone. Beware buying a car here, nothing but poor unprofessional service

Excellent Experience

by Karen_Sean on 05/03/2017

We were in the market for a used car for our daughter. Over the course of a few months, we visited several dealers and spoke with many sales reps. When we came to Honda of Freehold and met Larry Seymour, it was a very comfortable experience. Larry was very attentive, helpful and not pushy at all. He listened to what we wanted and didn’t try to steer us in a direction we didn’t want. He took his time, didn’t rush us as we were looking. He let us make our own decision. When it came time to decide on a car, Larry made the actual buying experience a pleasant one. And the Finance person we worked with was also very pleasant, didn't rush us, and took time to review all the finance options without pressure -- just stated facts. We are looking forward to going back to Larry in 2 years when it is time to buy a car for our other daughter.

Not honest people

by Joeriggio1 on 04/18/2017

I took my nephew to buy his first new car. He selected one he could afford when we went to pick it up it had damaged window moldings and scratches. They assured me it would be repaired. A few days later we went back to get it and it still wasn't right. They apologized made offers of 250.00 dollars and all weather matts to make up for their mistakes. I took their word we did all the paperwork and finalized the sale. We left without the car again when we returned it still wasn't right I bacame agitated and spoke to a manager Joe Cipolla who was very rude and he reminded I already bought the car a basically I was out of luck. The salesman Brad Kessel promised the mats would be fedexed by him personally they had none at the time. Well they have not made good on any of their promises not stand up guys. Stay away from this dealer.

Don't believe in the internet price

by unbias1 on 12/16/2016

What can I say? Don't believe the quote Honda of Freehold gives you online. I was quoted x-amount for a vehicle online. When I went into the showroom, the sales manager said the price I was quoted was impossible because their purchase price was $2,500.00 more than what I told him. When I showed him the email, he then began writing some figures down and added on some non-negotiable fees such as Total Loss Protection insurance. In the end, the showroom price was $1,200.00 more than the internet quote. Plus tax, title, DMV, etc., the out-the-door price was approximately $4,500.00 more!
