Worst experience ever

Don't buy a car from this place. I was given a price on a brand new car that was about $800 over my budget. The salesperson had been working to earn my business for a long time so I told them if they reduced the price by $400 we had a deal. I have confirmation in writing to our agreement. I go in to pick up my new car, Jonathan Schmelz gets me in the finance office and says he never agreed to the $400 additional discount. They made a mistake on their end then rather then making it right tried to strong arm me into just taking the deal anyway. I refused. An hour and a half later Mr. Schmelz reluctantly reduced the price by $200, made the salesperson pay $200 (or so I was told), then charged me a higher interest rate than I was approved and initially signed for to make up for it. I finally caved and signed the papers to get it over with. I've bought a lot of new cars in my life and I've never seen anything like this before. A customer spending thousands on a brand new car and hassling and them over $400??, really? Turned what should have been a happy and fun experience into the worst car buying experience ever. Again, over $400. I don't know how Mr. Schmelz can even look at himself in the mirror. Don't trust him, he is as crooked as they come. P.S. After I got home I noticed the damage on my new car that you tried to cover up and failed to disclose. You win again!

I have been a customer at Schmelz Countryside VW Maplewood MN for 15+ years. I cannot imagine going anywhere else for purchase/lease or service on my vehicles. The sales and service staff have always gone out of their way to help me with any questions or needs that I have, and I trust them implicitly. Patric von Drashek in sales, as well as Mike Barcalow in finance, were so knowledgeable and so patient with me as I went through the process of returning a leased vehicle and releasing another Volkswagen Tiguan. Their experience and knowledge guided me smoothly through the paperwork, and I left, once again, (and as always in the past), happy and secure in the knowledge that I was in good hands at Countryside, as well as in a good, safe and beautiful car. Thank you Patric and Mike, and thank you Countryside VW. I recommend them to all my friends and family.

David Reed did an amazing job helping me through the process. Instead of me coming to the dealership he brought the car I was interested in to my job and let test drive it on my break. He taught me everything about my new car. All the features in car and set up my Bluetooth. This was my first time buying a car and he made the process simple and easy. Mike B. was the person I work with in financing and he was great. He did everything he could to try to get me a better rate and was very helpful in the process of buying my first car. I would recommend them to all my family and friends.

I'm a GM who bought his first new Volkswagen... Having several friends who own VW's and always telling me to look into one, I finally did!!!!.... I now know why they rave so much about their cars.. I bought a new 2015 PASSAT TDI SEL... What an amazing car!!... It takes a lot to impress me, and I am impressed!!... It's just a pleasure to drive this vehicle... So quiet and comfortable to operate... Hard to believe I'm driving a diesel, as this car is just as quiet as any gasoline auto I have ever owned!!... When looking at VW's one friend recommended I visit SCHMELZ Volkswagen, as she purchased a new Passat there, and had nothing but good things to say about this dealership... I ended up purchasing my new PASSAT from Christine Bakken... She made the experience very smooth, and had no high pressure sales gimmicks like other sales people at other dealerships... Not knowing much about VW's, I had numerous questions and concerns, and Christine walked me through the whole learning process, and always had time for me, even on her day off!!!... Christine went way beyond her position as Sales Consultant for me, and I greatly appreciated that!!!.... Plus Christine really knows her product, which made me very confident in buying a car from her!!... During the financing process, I dealt with Kim Sanchez, and she too was awesome to work with!!!... Kim was very friendly, kind, and genuinely concerned with making my buying experience pleasant... I couldn't have asked for a better sales and finance staff to deal with!!.. I've bought around 12 new vehicles through my "driving years" and this experience ranks at the top, thanks to Christine and Kim... We recently purchased and leased new 2015 Jettas from Schmelz VW. Our Sales Associate, Christine Bakken, was very professional and easy to work with. She gave us all of the information we needed and answered all of our questions. She helped guide us in making a decision and we didn't feel pressured into doing anything. We thought the process of getting two new vehicles at once would be stressful and complicated, but Christine and everyone at Schmelz made it go very smoothly and we were very happy with our experience. This is our second car buying experience at Schmelz and whether its sales or service, they've always provided us with professional, excellent customer service. We would highly recommend Christine and Schmelz to anyone looking to purchase a new vehicle.

Hello Bug

My present vehicle had served me well for 11 years but, it was time to move on to something new. I wasn't certain what I wanted but, I knew I wanted to check out the Beetle. I stopped by to pick up my 93 year old mother and off we went to Schmelz Counyrtside. We were greeted by Scott Sprecher who sat down to talk with us. He wanted to know what I wanted most in a new car. Wow! Amazing! I told him I was in no hurry since the sale of my present vehicle was pending the buyer selling what he had. Scott came with a price that easily met my expectations with the cost of a spoiler that would be installed after the initial sale and he printed off the information for me at my request. Then, it was time for the test drive. He included my mother in the adventure which left the back seat for him. Mom and I had a ball, a mini road trip (she still speaks of our drive with delight). She was sold on the car from the get-go, especially the color (bright red). Two days later I received a thank you card in the mail from Scott simply thanking me for my time. There was no pressure to buy or contact him to set up a sale. He honored the fact I was not ready yet to make a purchase everything hinged on an unknown. About 7 weeks later I got the call on a Saturday afternoon that my car was leaving for a new home on Monday afternoon. Off to Schmelz with my husband in tow. I found the car I test drove still on the lot. We went into the showroom to look for Scott but he was occupied at the moment so Christine Bakken offered to step in to help us until Scott was free. She was able to find the paperwork that Scott set up and walked with us out to the lot to view the car and offer a drive. We declined the drive since I had already taken it out and was satisfied. Christine explained the warranty and showed us the features of the car. We went back into the showroom to sign papers and give a down payment and make arrangements to pick up the Bug on Tuesday. One of the managers came over to meet us as well before we left. Whe I went back on Tuesday Christine was waiting for us and spent over 90 minutes going over each book that came with my new Bug, explaining what information I would find inside each booklet. We signed the paperwork, made the payment and then Christine sat inside the car with me and went through every switch , knob, cup holder, glove box plug in and... she set up my cell phone for the blue tooth. There was not one inch of my car that I was not introduced to! She was patient and kind and time was not a factor to her...Thank you Christine! I was assured that I would receive a call within a few days about the spoiler and arrangements would be set up for the installation. Scott set up the deal for this. He made arrangements to have it ordered, painted and the appointment for installation. Thank you Scott, everything went flawlessly! The timing was perfect since the plates had just come into the dealership a few days prior so once the spoiler was installed, the plates were put on and then...they washed my pretty new car! The people in the service area are terrific, they are kind and efficient and oh my what a clean service area they have! I have a very full new family at Schmelz. I have two super salespeople (Scott Sprecher and Christine Bakken), I have kind and helpful service technicians that understand my obsession for a clean car, and managers that understand the buyers desire to find a reasonable deal on a great (cute) car. I am very satisfied with my experience at Schmelz, thank you all.

My sales person was Christine Bakken. She did a great job covering all of the options, trim levels, engine stats, colors, etc. After I purchased my car she did a GREAT job going over the features in my new car, the warranties, and anything else I wanted covered. I loved working with her as she was patient, helpful, and never pushy (as we all know some people in sales can be). The whole staff was helpful and kind. The finance associate Kim Sanchez did a great job getting me to what I wanted my monthly payment to be. My schedule is difficult with work, kids and sports but they were VERY flexible and worked with me over phone, email and in person. To sum this up I highly recommend Schmelz, my sales rep Christine Bakken, and the finance associate Kim Sanchez... 10 out of 5 stars in my book. See you for my maintenance and in a few years for another new car!

When you buy a used car your never quite sure what your getting. Buying a car that you find over the internet in another state is an even scarier experience. In this case Scott Sprecher the salesman at Schmelz Countryside Volkswagen was straight forward, honest and a pleasure to deal with. From the time with him and Kim in finance on the phone they answered every question and made buying my used 2013 Volkswagen Beetle a truly seamless experience. The car is a gem. My daughter loves her Beetle and her friends still don't believe it's close to two years old. I'd use this dealership without hesitation when it comes time to buy another vehicle in the future.

I recently purchased a slightly used VW Jetta from Schmalz. Upon arriving at the dealership I started to walk the lot, immediately Terrill Klecker came to my assistance. He worked diligently to hunt down the exact Jetta I had seen online even though the rest of the dealership (minus the owner) thought it had likely sold and not been updated in their system. My purchase experience was excellent, Terrill, the finance, and the service team assisted in getting me out the door in my new car with smiles even though the process was not completed till almost an hour after close on a Friday. I would definitely recommend Schmalz VW and Terrill Klecker to everyone.

Poor Customer Service I would like to warn those out there looking to buy from Schmelz, once the sale goes through you will cees to exist to them. There Customer Service is down right degrading. I bought a 2010 Jetta, it had 125,000 but all the preventative maintance had been done they assured me. That is where i screwed up beleiving them. I love this car and would expect that after 2 times in there shop in less than 3 months that they would be more willing to work with me. Opposite they have charged me full price to look at the vehicle a week after it was in their shop, of the over 1000 i have put into this vehicle after spending 12,500 on it, they graciously took 200 off my bill of over 700. Even met with John Schmelz cause i Figured if anybody he would want to work with costumers but i was proven wrong. He stated unless i had bought their overly priced extended warrenty i was out of luck and nothing he could do for me. My wife did alot of research and we both fell in love with this car. With such a heavy heart we are getting rid of this lemon just so we dont have to deal with this Dealership. You are reading that right it has been such a nightmare we are letting go and cutting our losses. BUYER BEWARE. I plead please take this to heart, they have been around for 47 years and i can tell you with customer service like this i would be impressed if they could make it another 5 years. I can assure you they will not be getting any of my repeat business or my family or friends. I hope they do not get yours, it will be a regretable experience.

Looking for a VW? Go to Schmelz Countryside and talk to Christine B. I have two local VW dealers in Omaha and I was tired of the typical sales tactics and pressure; most annoying was the salesman going back and forth to the Wizard (Sales Manager) behind the curtain. I reached out to Christine and experienced none of this at Schmelz. She exceeded my expectations with her knowledge, patience, and ability to create an effortless win-win deal. It was worth driving 380 miles for. I just wish Schmelz was in the Omaha area because I understand, like Christine, their service folks are also top-notch.

Easy Process!

Similar to one of the other reviews, I had looked online and found the VW Tiguan that I was interested in...went in on a Friday afternoon where I was greeted by TK (Tim) and took it for a test drive to see if I even liked how it drove. It lived up to my expectations and I had TK run some numbers for me to see what payments might look like for me. I had already done some preliminary research on my own, but he was able to run the numbers with the current interest rates and any other specials going. I felt no pressure what-so-ever to buy, TK was very pleasant and wanted to make sure I was happy with the information given. I took the info home that evening and brought my boyfriend in with me the next day to do another test drive. I found TK immediately, and he pulled the car around right away. I ended up purchasing it that day. All in all, I think the process that day took about 2 hours with the financing and running all the numbers, but I was happy with the end result. Oh, and TK also made sure I left with the same amount of gas in the tank of the new car that I had come in with in my old car (even though the newer car had a larger tank). Great experience - TK was very personable and like I mentioned I didn't feel any pressure throughout the process.

Terrill K. did a great job of listening to what we were looking for in a car. The Passat TDI fit what we were looking for and Terrill was able to answer and diminish any concerns we had about owning a diesel. So far we are getting mid-40 MPG and love driving the car. Thanks!

Ralph L. was extremely informative, genuine and helpful. I was looking at leasing a Jetta SE. I had been to many other dealerships during my car search. He let the car sell itself and wasn't condescending with cheesy sales tactics. He was real with me with price and worked with me to keep it to what we agreed on. Also, the color I wanted was not in stock, he worked very hard to get one and made sure I was able to pick it up as soon as possible. I would highly recommend this vw dealership and working with Ralph L.

I had the chance to lease Volkswagen Jetta from Schmelz Countryside Volkswagen. Mike A. was my sales consultant. Mike A. is very professional. He posses excellent customer service skills. I asked for extra features for my Volkswagen Jetta. Mike offered me the car with the features I asked in a timely manner. I am truly happy that Mike A. was my sales consultant. Mike spent around 4 hours with me to make sure I will get the car I want. Mike was extremely patient and sincere. I highly recommend Mike A. to be your sales consultant.
