Year End Purchase by gf2020 on Tue Jan 02 09:47:36 PST 2007

There does not seem to be too much activity on this message thread, but I figured I would chime in with my recent purchase experience. Over the holiday weekend I purchased a new, leftover 2006 Mercury Mountaineer Premier AWD V8. My wife and I had been looking at some lightly used '06 Ford Explorer Limiteds and the new Mountaineer actually ended up being less expensive than a used Ford. Our transaction was complicated by the trade-in of our 2002 Ford Explorer XLT V8 with 92,000 miles, but suffice to say, it was pretty straightforward to get the dealer to go about $6000 below invoice with all of the available rebates. Since we plan to keep this SUV for 5 or 6 years, we chose to go with the 0% financing for 60 months so we gave back $4000 in rebates but we were still well below invoice with a fair value on our trade. Anyone considering a loaded Ford Explorer should really evaluate the Mercury Mountaineer. Many of the options that are still optional on the Explorer Eddie Bauer or Limited are standard on the Mountaineer Premier - back-up sensor and power fold third row seat among them. Happy New Year!

You are correct that you can get a 2006 Explorer for less than the comparable vehicle in 2002. We purchased our '02 XLT with a sticker of $33,000 for about $27,000. I can now get an '06 Eddie Bauer with more features and a sticker of $34,500 for about $26,500. Of course, my '02 is only worth about $8000 in trade so they better be discounting the new ones heavily!

Hi: It is now june and I ma pretty sure the $3k rebate is still in effect. we bought our quest s with SE package Last Mon 5/29 (memorial day). I am not sure what the Sl with the Se package includes . We paid $19,600 for our 06 Quest S SE. I think we got an amazing deal. It does not have DVD player,. It has all the typical extra features (seat package, cargo cover etc) and the rearview mirror with compass and auto dim. The MSRP was $28,075 so getting over $8K from MSRP was pretty good. The other dealer wqe were working with could NOT match that price. We went at close of business time on Memorial day and I am thinking that helped. Anyhow, good luck in negotiating if you have not already bought. Mary

Invoice by mcoolidge on Tue Mar 22 12:46:47 PST 2005

Hi all. Just completed the purchase of my wife's new Quest on 3/19. It's a beauty, Black SL with SkyView, DVD, and some minor stuff. Sticker was around 31200. I emailed two dealers (Peters in Nashua, NH and Bouchard in Fitchburg, MA) thru edmunds and told them that i was going to buy a Quest, I knew exactly what I wanted, and I needed the best possible price. The Salesperson from Bouchard called me back right away and asked if I could bring my trade (2004 Ford Explorer) in on Saturday, and that they had the car I wanted on the lot. She knew I knew the numbers and she said she'd break out the invoice. Was greeted by her and the sales manager, they cut right to the chase - buy the one on the lot and you can have it for invoice. Plus, he hooked me up with some 4.5% 60mo financing that allowed me to still take the 2000 cash. Total price - 26400 after the cash back. My advice is, dont pay over invoice and be sure to get some dealer competition going.
