Jesus, $48 will barely get you thru a week or so of gasolene. Many folks may get taken for $300-500 for these "fees". $48 is 0.28% of a 17000 purchase, and if you financed and didn't agressively pursue different options from credit unions etc you may have left $500-1500 there over 5 years. If you didn't get at least $2000 or so off the msrp, exclusive of financing you possibly left $300 or so there too. Regardless, letting $48 spoil your day is downright dumb. It is among the more reasonable fees dealers charge. Lifes too short. Enjoy the car man! --jjf recently bought a Mazda 3 08 Sport automatic. I got a very good price on it and had done my homework to be aware of most dealer fees that I might be charged. I figured tax/title/tag fees were not determined by the dealer. I was charged a $66 fee and told to just pick up my tags when my letter arrived in the mail. When I got to the tax office in GA, I realized that I had been charged a $66 fee for what is an $18 service. The rest ($48) is an "administrative fee" charged by the dealer. This was NOT explained to me when I bought the car. New tags cost me an additional $20. The amount, granted, is not a large one at all but on principle, I feel cheated for having been given the impression that those were the fees charged by the GA tax office. Please read your buyer's order carefully and ask the dealer what the title/tag fee includes explicitly. Don't agree to anything else. This was at Mazda Roswell. I came away a rather happy customer originally but this small scam has really left a bad taste in my mouth.

I have yet to see another CX-9 (other than the one I just bought!) on the road in my city - granted, it's relatively small (500K people) but still, lots of soccer moms around here! :) I also note that I have only seen 2 or 3 new Acura MDX's, but they are starting to show up more and more now. I paid $250 above invoice supposedly.

What are dealer fees for ? Its a bogus paper processing and, in your case, phony PDI fee tacked on to the end of a deal as a way to gouge extra profit from you. Most car salesman are told in training that all car dealers have them now so that they can tell that lie without a qualm to a complaining customer surprised by the extra cost above the purchase price. This was what my brother was told in training when he began to sell Toyotas in Bradenton, FL. I had to tell him that such was not the case. I have a Honda dealer (Williamson) in Lincoln, NE from whom I bought a 2004 and 2006 Civic that has a $0 dealer doc fee; another, Superior Honda in Omaha, has only a $35 dealer doc fee. In Kansas City I have a Subaru dealer - Jack Miller - from whom I buy Subarus who has no dealer fee. Granted these are the anomalies today as most dealers have them. Yet they exist, particularly in the heartland where business practices are not as sharp. The coasts and the larger metropolitan areas sport the biggest dealer thieves where the fees can reach the $500 mark. At my Mazda dealer in Lincoln, NE I paid a $120 dealer fee for a 2004 Mazda 3i and $159 two years later for a 2006 Mazda 3s. When shopping for a new car today, the first question out of your mouth has to be what is your dealer fee.

Thanks for the advice....I'm torn b/w the 3s Grant touring, the 6i sport, and the 6s sport.....i know the 6s isn't necessarily comparable to the other two being that it's a V6, but I'm not sure if I want to spend the extra upfront and on gas for a V6 when my fiance will mostly be driving it and wouldn't really utilize the V6 anyway!.....I'm completely up in the air though....any advice would be great.
Shopping advice for 3's

First, do your homework. If you cannot find the pricing for 2006 3's, go to www.mazdausa.com and do a inventory search within 50 to 100 miles of your home zip code. On the next screen don't select a dealer, but select the 3 you want (I want a 3i Touring), then hit search. It will pull up every vehicle available in your area and you can look at what options they have, and then pull up the sticker from the car. Print both of these and use them to compare to Edmunds and KBB. If you have S-Plan use it, if you don't ask for invoice pricing based upon what you find out on Edmunds (Edmunds has most of it correct, but Mazda is now bundling options like the moonroof and 6 CD and Edmunds adds both the bundle and another $500 at MSRP for the 6 CD again - be aware of this) and stick to it. The space where the 3 plays is hot with the release of then newly redesigned Civic and the dealers know it - play up that you have options, granted if you go buy a Civic you will be paying MSRP, but your dealer doesn't need to know that (white lie if you will). If you can get your hands on the Zoom-Zoom or Gerber coupons use them. It is up to $1000 free money. I had no issue getting the Gerber coupon and registering for it and registering for Zoom-Zoom is right on the Mazda web site and then you can go to a event or purchase your coupon off E-Bay. I am looking at a Mazda 3i Touring Sedan and configured as I want it in Titanium Gray with the following options. Automatic transmission, ABS/Side Air Bag/Curtains, Mooroof/6CD Package, Cargo Net, Wheel Locks, Mirror with dimmer and compass, door guards, and fog lights and the MSRP is as follows: Destination $560 (usually part of MSRP), Car $15990, Options $2795 for a total MSRP of $19,345. Now here is what I am paying with S-Plan (S-Plan is invoice pricing for 2006). Destination $560, Car $14961, Options $2403 for total drive out of $17924 less my $500 Gerber and $500 Zoom-Zoom coupon. My drive out will be $16924 plus tax at 6% plus $41 in fees. Edmunds TMV is $18754 for the vehicle. Under S-Plan you do not pay that made up dealer/advertising fee and I encourage you not to pay it either. It is also worth pointing out that a 2005 Mazda 6i Sport Sedan, Sports Model with incentives ($3000) and coupons ($1000) that I priced in comparison came close to the 3i Touring I configured at $18302 after incentives and coupons. I think I am still getting the 3. Any opinions on that?
