Just got mine this weekend

Try this on for size - I just bought a 2008 Mazda3 I touring with the side impact airbags options. Here is the breakdown of what I paid: According to the purchase papers: $16890 for the vehicle itself $59.00 tags $400.00 taxes $17349 out the door. Harrelson Mazda in Charlotte, NC said they would always give you invoice price. They also gave me $4000 for my trade that had 165000 miles and body damage on it. Ended up financing at 1.9% for three months. I think it is a great deal! My younger sister is coming up to get her 2008 GT later on this year. Also they waived the bogus dealer processing fee of $499.50 since my father haggled with them so well. ;)
I bought my Mazda6i!

I actually leased it last night from Montgomery Mazda in Charlotte, NC. Great, super easy buying process (I had called ahead for their best price). Here's the details: Mazda6i Sport Value Edition Auto MSRP $21,125 Negotiated price $15,988 Total cap cost $17,291 Residual $11,618 Base monthly payment $209.35 + $6.28 (tax) = $215.63 This is a 36-month, 12,000 miles per year lease with $0 down and $0 security deposit. I love my 6 so far! Best of luck to everyone here and thanks for all the tips and advice I received!!!
Finally decided on the Mazda6

Just thought I'd let you all know about the deal I got last night from Montgomery Mazda in Charlotte, NC. Great, super-easy buying process (I had called ahead for their best price when none of the dealers within 50 miles of me were willing to come down below $19,000). Here's the details: Mazda6i Sport Value Edition Auto MSRP $21,125 Negotiated price $15,988 Total cap cost $17,291 (includes doc, destination, tags, title, etc) Residual $11,618 Base monthly payment $209.35 + $6.28 (tax) = $215.63 For some reason, Mazda is able to include the NC county property tax in the lease, along with Gap insurance at no cost! So, that means I don't have to dread those upcoming tax bills (at least for the next three years). This is a 36-month, 12,000 miles per year lease with $0 down and $0 security deposit. In fact, my first month's payment was included in the lease cash, so I didn't pay anything yesterday... sign and drive! I like it! :D I love my 6 so far! Best of luck to everyone here and thanks for all the tips and advice I received!!!
Re: Mazda3 S Sedan Price [jurrasic]

Jurrasic - Congrats on the forthcoming car purchase! If you like the Mazda3 half as much as I do you're going to love it - I'm finding all sorts of excuses for driving these days... Looks like list on the car you're looking at is $20,605. Why not just get a Silver S-Grand Touring w/AT - list is $20,675? You'll lose the CD-Changer Moonroof package at that price (which you said you didn't want anyway) but you'll gain: -Heated Front Seats -Tire Pressure Monitoring -Rain Sensing Automatic Wipers -Automatic Xenon HID Headlights -Automatic Climate Control -Trip Computer (shows MPG, Avg MPH, Miles to Empty, etc.) -Theft Deterrent Security System. All of which are, in my opinion, an infinitely better deal than the moonroof-CD Changer. In the Charlotte, NC area I payed $21,718 + tags for my 3GT w/ Moonroof, Bose, and Navigation. I started out, just like you, looking at the S-Touring with leather but it just didn't make economic sense to me to go that direction - the GT just seemed like a much better value.

That sounds like a good deal joetr - hard to beat the S-Plan price if you qualify. Tax here in SC is not a percentage but is restricted to $300, which is great. $21,418 was my price on an '06 Velocity Red GT w/ Bose & Moonroof pkg. and Navigation plus tax and tag. Carolina Mazda in Rock Hill, SC (about 10 miles south of Charlotte, NC) - best car buying experience I've ever had. They did a dealer trade to get the color / options I wanted and I had no suprises along the way other than how easy it was. I took delivery of the car last Tuesday and I love it - already put 500 miles on it. Some early observations: THE GOOD- - Bose soundsystem is much better than I was expecting after reading some comments here. My only explanation for some not liking it is that they are "young-uns" looking for bloated boomy bass. I listen to jazz and classic hard rock (everything from Coltrane and Miles to Sabbath and Montrose...) and it sounds great to me. - The navigation system is fantastic. Again, after reading some comments here I was expecting almost no functionality once the vehicle was in motion - but it only locks out functions which require use of the onscreen keyboard. A good safety feature if you ask me... - The car just flat out drives better than anything I've owned and is simply amazing for the money. THE BAD - - The carpet just plain sucks... there's no other way to state it. The included mats aren't any better either - they slide all over the damned place... I'm trying to figure out a way to keep them in place. - Carpeted dead-pedal is a huge oversight too, they could have thrown a $2 hunk of plastic there and it would have been better. - No trunk pop button on the key fob is incomprehensible as well I love the car and look forward to driving it every day though - just great fun. :D

Probably not. Monthly payments of $525-550 at 6% indicates a purchase price between $27,650 and $29,000. You don't say what options you're considering nor the amount of your state sales tax, but the MSRP (and Edmund's True Market Value) for a base Sport model is $23,495 (plus sales tax). I think you'd be hard pressed to get that price up to $28,000 even fully loaded. You're going about the negotiation wrong. Don't negotiate monthly payment. Negotiate price. Once that's settled, see who has the best financing or lease deal.
