Nearly invoice for my 3 hatch

After talking to multiple dealers here in western New England, none of who were willing to shave more than a few hundred bucks off MSRP, I found one that offered me the car I wanted for just about invoice. I got a titanium grey 5-door with the ABS package for $17,201, from Gallo Mazda in Worcester, Mass. Didn't qualify for the Mazda 3.9% apr, but the dealer got me 4.3% through Chase. Also managed to get the $500 owner loyalty bonus, which was a contentious issue -- some dealers seemed to think I had to live with my brother in order to get it, others didn't. This one insisted he had to live with me until I demanded they show me in writing where it said that, at which point they backed off and gave me the $500. Note that I haven't actually gotten the car yet: they need to swap with another nearby dealer which won't happen until next week. But I have a VIN so no worries. Just wanted everyone to know -- it's still possible (though not easy) to get a good deal on the 3 of your dreams. I got exactly the color and feature set I wanted. I think I netted mine largely because it was near the end of the month and the sales guy was quota-sensitive. Can't wait to get it.

Halocline, I'm from the Worcester area, and looking to purchase almost the exact mazda3 you did (except in sedan form without leather). If you don't mind me asking, how much was it, and how much of a discount did you get via the S-plan (i'm not eligible). Would you go back to Sentry West for another purchase? And lastly, did they have a lot of 3's on the lot, or did it seem like they were selling like hotcakes? thanks a ton.
S-Plan, also Boston/Worcester

If you're still "negotiating" after the S-Plan is mentioned, switch dealers. If the dealer supports the S-Plan, there shouldn't be any wiggle room. My dealer showed me the invoice (from Mazda USA) with invoice price, MSRP, and S-Plan price all written down. I was charged exactly what the invoice listed for S-Plan, and no other fees. There was not an "Ad fee" added on afterwards, nor a "Doc fee." I paid S-Plan price plus tax, inspection sticker fee, registration/etc, but no "special" fees. The invoice did have a $100 "Boston" charge, which could well be the "Ad fee" some people are talking about, but this was A: On the invoice already (clearly the dealer was being charged it) and B: wrapped up in the S-Plan price already (it was not added to the S-Plan price by the dealer). Note that the S-Plan price is not itemized on the invoice (unlike the invoice price), so if you want the itemized list you should log into the S-Plan site provided by your employer to see how it all breaks down. The only negotiating I did was with the finance guy, and he was _very_ laid back. He offered me a couple things but his attitude was "I have to offer you this," but it was clear he didn't expect me to want to buy it. Even the extended "warranty" sale pitch was low-pressure. After the sale was done the manager came over to shake my hand and ask that I please fill out the survey when it got there. Absolutely the least painful experience I've had buying a car, new or used. If you're looking for 3s in the Boston/Worcester area, there were a few on the lot at SentryWest in Shrewsbury, right on Route 20. Good luck!
