CX-7 GT AWD
by tewks999 on Thu Dec 13 14:13:51 PST 2007
This past weekend I purchased the following vehicle at a dealer near Boston, MA 2008 CX-7 Grand Touring AWD Liquid Platinum Metallic Black Leather Moonroof/Bose package I paid $26,400 (with the $1,500 incentive being factored in). I ended up with a bad taste in my mouth because they sealed the deal with an additonal $500 rebate they promised using Mazda's recent college graduate program through the website, facebook.com. When I called the next day to process the rebate, Mazda customer service told me the incentive had expired quite a while ago and my dealership was mistaken. The dealership wouldn't make up the full $500, only coming down $100. Due to limited inventory of the CX-7 with these specific in the area, I ended up staying with the this dealer and completing a sale. I spoke to another dealer who was willing to come down to around $25k (give or take) if I was willing to take the 2007 instead of the 2008.

"Even though they are negotiated separately, both transactions are important aspects of the new car deal. Most dealers will pay only 70-80% of your car's real value." You're right. But they gave me $1000 more than the KBB value for a trade-in, in 'Excellent' condition. My trade was in Very Good to nearly excellent condition. Every other time I've gotten trade-in prices for other vehicles, I've been offered less than what KBB lists as 'Fair' condition value, so this offer was more in-line with what I thought I really should get for the vehicle. After I considered the tax savings, the advertising costs, and the 'hassle & waiting' factor for attempting to sell my car myself, this was a no-brainer for me. "Don't forget that you'll have to pay about $800/month in payments, so you might not want to lock the entire balance in a 36 month CD (unless you have money sitting somewhere else)!!! " Thanks - I haven't quite decided what to do yet. My payments are $395/month. My trade-in was worth more than 1/2 the cost of the CX-9, so the payments aren't too bad. But you're right, I don't want to cut this too close. Our bank does offer a no-risk CD account for 4.25% where I wouldn't need to worry about withdrawing/closing the account at any time, so that's an option too. FYI - For those in the Boston, MA area - I bought it at Ira Mazda in Danvers and the sales rep was terrific to work with. Not sure I can post his full name here, but it is Marc A. - very nice guy...not the obnoxious pushy type you often run into in the car business.

There are plenty of automatics around at Boston and NH dealers. You should be able to find this car at several dealers in the area. It's always risky to talk to only one dealer. I would think that you could get this for invoice if not better. Figure that you can knock $1000 off a '08. The car is essentially the same as the '07 model. If you keep the car for 5 years or more, there won't be a wide spread on resale. If you plan on only 2-3 years, difference in resale could be significant. You do the math from here. Good luck. One thing I noticed shopping for a loaded GT at Werner, they all came with a front air dam. Waste of money for me so I wouldn't deal with them. You may be OK with the Touring model though. I ended up buying from Sentry West in Shrewsbury, MA. Very easy deal and I got exact options I was looking for. Remember you can still service the car at any dealership.
Purchased 2006 Tribute
by zoom_ute on Tue Oct 31 08:01:44 PST 2006
Just purchased a 2006 Mazda Tribute-i, 4-cylinder 5-speed with AWD, options were all weather mats and rear bumper step. Metro-West Boston, MA region. MSRP was $22,515, invoice was 21,089. Paid $20995 - $3000 rebate - $1000 MAC finance bonus cash for a net price of just $16995. Added cruise control (not available from the factory on "i" manual transmissions) for $300. Financed the minimum required to get the $1000 bonus ($7k) and will pay off as a lump sum when first payment is due (interest rate with MAC is much higher than prime...about 9.8%, something around 6-6.5% should be available if you need to finance). Very happy with the vehicle and with the dealership! Also cross-shopped the 2007 Escape XLS AWD. Found one that was base with alloy wheels (MSRP $22090, invoice $20876) and had negotiated a price of $20,800 - $2000 Ford cash for a net price of $18,800. Went with the Mazda as they gave me a much better price on my trade-in, plus the Mazda had 16" alloys with wider tires, tinted glass, firmer suspension tuning, and 4year/50k mile warranty...all with a lower net price due to higher rebates (but it is a "leftover"). For those who are shopping any of these models there is no reason you should pay higher than invoice, the 2006 and 2007 are "lame ducks"...the redesigned 2008 will come out in early spring 2007 so push hard for a deal. I used quotes from Edmunds and from Carsdirect.com to "cut to the chase" :).

Talked to a Boston, MA area dealers and they are giving $2200 under msrp for any GT package. That was without negotiating. I have been monitoring two dealership inventories and it just keeps going up. Talked to two salesman and they said everyone is concerned about the premium gas and weak engine. One salesman said if the engine was as good as the body we would be getting 2200 over msrp". Looks like I will be buying a minivan.
