Not much negotiation. Quirk Mazda in Quincy Ma. I pretty much explained what I did in the earlier post.
What price can I bargain down to?

I'm looking at a 05 5-Speed S Cloth Steel Gray Metallic for $19563 at Quirk in Quincy, MA. They have the same car in Norwood at Mazda Gallery. What can I talk down to? That's with $3000 cash rebates. I think the documentation fee at Quirk is $299 and it's $199 at Mazda Gallery.

Just purchased a 2004 6s V6 5 Door with 5 spd sport AT, Luxury pkg, Moonroof/deflector, side bags/curtains, Bose, All-weather mats + cargo mat- MSRP $28230. paid $22,999. incl rebate from Quirk in Quincy, MA Nice deal, nice car, good salesman. They have lots of inventory; most other dealers had few '04s and were waiting for '05s to dribble in. Looked at a lot of other cars for much more money (Acura, Infiniti, Lexus, Nissan) but the Mazda has them beat hands down in terms of value/bang for the buck. Zoom, Zoom!
Thought I got a great deal, but you guys rock

Someone else mentioned that they bought theirs at Quirk Mazda in Quincy, MA - aren't they slimy? Anyway, I went there, because they said they'd give me $2500 off MSRP plus 0% financing, and I had yet to see that someone had finagled that, so I thought I was so cool. *sigh* Anyway, MSRP was $18,315 with the AT and no other options - I paid $15629, which is $2686 below MSRP, but then got slapped with their bogus $299 "Documentary Preparation" which is a crock, add tax, title, etc., and I'm now up to $17,200. It seemed OK to me, because it's still below Edmunds TMV, but you guys blew me out of the water. I was new at this, it being my first car and all. Want to give me some pointers for next time? (Not that that will be anytime soon.) Thanks, Philippa
2002 LX 5 - speed

I bought my Pro at Quirk Imports in Quincy, MA on November 7. Since they were anxious to move the '02s, mine came with a Mazda discount of over $4000. It has power everything, AC, cruise & tilt (probably all standard on the LX but I was only shopping for a DX thinking that would be all I could afford). It only had 15 miles on it. After the discount the cost was $11,004. They wouldn't budge another dollar lower than that. I know it was a terrific buy, but you know, part of the fun is the haggling. Then they get you with financing and LoJack and Extended Warranty, etc. And $299 "prep/paperwork/laughing-all-the-way-to-the-bank" fee. My salesguy, Andrew Lennie, was AWESOME. Really down to Earth, straight talking, and genuine. When I had issues with the car (minor) a few days later, he made sure I was taken care of. All in all, after financing and the requisite "additional charges" the car will cost just under $13,000 when it's all paid off in five years. Best of luck to anyone considering a Protege. If you are considering one, chances are you're comparing it to Civics, Corollas, and the slew of other generic import and domestic sedans out there. After you do your research, you'll probably come the same conclusion I did; that for the money, the Pro kicks just about everything else's butt when you sum up its overall performance, handling, and reliability.
