Way too much for a car with no trade in or resale value
by johnnyvegas on Sun Sep 28 14:54:32 PDT 2008
I have never owned a Ford, heck never owned an american car always had Honda/Bmw/Toyota/Lexus. I have driven several though, like a 2001, and 3 Ford Taurus, each I put almost 75000 miles on, a 2006 Impala that I put 97000 and a 2007 Impala that just turned 83000, and a 2007 Pontiac G6 for about 6 months and roughly 20000 when it was totalled. A I get to order a new company car every two years 70000 miles, I get a limited selection. This year was a Ford Fusion, Impala, G6 or Corolla. All are loaded with nice options, not base models, but the Escape was available and it is LOADED! I just ordered and received the 2009 Ford Escape XLT 4WD with V6 and 6 speed trans. It is charcoal gray (They call it black pearl) and has the dark charcoal interior. A co-worker has a 2006 and it was loud, bouncy and gutless. Even with the V6. This new one is MUCH BETTER. Much more impressive. It has nice shifting, smooth power and the suspension seems much improved. I expect it will soften and get crappy as I rack up the miles, but for now, it's nice. I would never own a Ford or Chevy mainly because of the resale value and maintenance costs, compared to imports is sooooo bad, but if you like these, for now it seems a good choice, bad investment. MSRP 28950??? No way. My company paid $19850 delivered. It showed that as invoice, minus corporate (General Electric) Fleet discounts of $1000. We ordered it direct from Ford in June and it arrived 9/12. They closed the plant for 3 weeks from the 4th of July holiday. I have 1020 miles on it in 9 days of driving. It's nice. But NO way do you invest in this loser. I can here the value falling from my living room. Sounds like the A bomb coming down over my head.
Sport MF and Residual
by BCD31 on Fri Dec 19 07:05:49 PST 2008
hi Carman, Can you please post the MF and residual percentage for a 36 month lease at 12k per year for both a 2008 cx-9 sport AWD? Is Mazda's captive fin co. providing the best lease package at this point? I am located in the Northeast (CT). Is their more incentive to lease a 2009 in terms of MF and residual? Probably wont get more of discount on a 2009 than a 2008 in terms of cap cost. Thank you! BCD31

CX9 looking for a G-Touring 2008
by kelzz3 on Wed Jan 14 17:57:51 PST 2009
What is the best deal that is to be had for a 2008, I want leather and a sunroof but don't need any other extras, except for that I am really wanting the blindspot monitoring. I can't seem to find a good deal out there, The dealer is even looking for used ones for me and so far they have found only Tourning which I can live with but we are talking all of them have only leather not sunroof and the price they are asking for is 27k that sounds high to me. The milage on the used vehicles are from 12,000 - 15,000 I don't mind used but I really wanted under 12,000 miles. Is that price to high? Do you think I could offer them 23k? Help please I love the CX9 and can actually wait I wrecked me van in Dec and have settled with the ins. co so we are just holding out until I find the deal that I am looking for. Would it be better to hold off? Or make an offer? The bad thing that I am finding is I am going to have to drive up to 200 miles which I don't mind. My local dealer has 1 2008 and 1 2009 models both Ground Touring. I am still hoping they will come down on the 08 GT do you think I could offer 27k for it? I know lots of questions in one email sorry I am excited about this site. AGain I apologize.

There's a "dealer" (using the term loosely) here in Charlotte (two lots, one on South Blvd) still emailing me as he refuses to believe we bought. This is the guy that blew us out the door at MSRP on a 2008, with 2009's on the lot, mumbling something like "might be able to find $1200 in there" as we walked. He was also shorting our trade, knew we knew about the 3500/500/800 and said he would lose his license if he even talked about those numbers, and pressuring us on payment when I had told him 500 times we were not payment buyers- "we are here to buy a car, not a loan". I blocked his phone though caller-ID, a few more emails and I am going to drive my wife's CX-7 over there and do donuts in the parking lot if if that's what it takes to get his attention (just teasing). Personally, I consider us an easy sale. So did the dealer we bought from. I am honest from the minute I walk in the door. -My family has dealerships, I grew up around the business, I am far from an expert, but I did do my homework. I don't buy from family, I like to keep it local for service reasons (unless there is a regional offer I can't refuse, I am not stupid). - I want a good deal. Good deal does not equal lowest price. I know you have to make a profit and I want you to- I want you to be here when I need service and I want a loaner if its overnight. Fair is fair. - I prefer to work wholesale to wholesale. Appraise my trade as is, price your car as is. Lets please consider them 2 different transactions (they have been in many deals). No need to hide numbers. Appraise my trade and let me know ACV (Actual Cost of Vehicle- what they are really paying for it, no robbing Peter to pay Paul). this is basically the "invoice" on my trade. Let's pull invoice on the new vehicle as well. from here we will cut a deal that is fair to us both and no one will waste any time or hurt any feelings. Not only have I always been told they respect this attitude, I usually get little incentives like "loyalty rebates", "farmers credits", "competitors rebates', etc, thrown in I didn't even know about. One thing I uses to love when I sold cars (long long time ago, galaxy far far away, yada yada)...the guy who walked in with the past three issues of Consumer Reports tucked under his arm loudly proclaiming as he entered the showroom, "I am only here to look". This was the old me, but, he would be "just looking" alright, "just looking" at the sales contract later that evening at the dinner table while his wife shouted "I thought you were only looking!!??" :P Even better, this is the kind of guy that has been bragging about his car buying abilities for weeks (we called them "Car Lawyers"), so all his friends, co-workers, and neighbors were just waiting for him to find the "best deal". He could never admit he caught "showroom fever" or "got sold", so he would have to send them all my way to save face. He got a $50 "bird dog" check for each one, I am sure that helped a bit.
