Document fees in Phoenix are considerably higher than what I'm seeing posted here from other places. They fell in the $299-$499(!) range for Mazda dealers here. Our license fees are based on the value of the car. On a new '08 Mazda3, it comes out to around $350. Every dealer here wants to tack on window tint - they put it on every new car unless you either specifically order it without it or you happen to find a car fresh of the truck that hasn't been tinted yet ($299 charge on the Mazda3 everywhere I checked). Most want to add some sort of "Desert Protection Package" that includes some sort of paint protection. Cardinale Way Mazda quoted me $1097 for their DPP & $499 for doc fees on a pre-owned 2007 Mazda3. I have no idea what their DPP included - I couldn't get past the shock of them adding $1600 to the price right out of the gate (an internet advertised price that was higher than invoice on a new 2008, BTW). I found that, of the 5 dealers I got bids from in the Phoenix area, they all started by adding about $900 in total adds to the price of a new '08 (+TT&L). At the end of December, one of the dealers was offering 500 under invoice for anything in stock, the others were all willing to sell the 3 at invoice without argument.
2007 Mazda6 S Value Edition

Hi, I'm getting the 2007 Mazda 6 S VE out the door in Phoenix AZ for $23300. Is this a reasonable price? The reason I ask is I didn't have to negotiate very hard for this price...the starting price of the car was the invoice price itself. All comments appreciated :)

Now that its the middle of October I see there is many 2006 RX-8's on the car lots here in Phoenix AZ not being sold. The dealers look very desperate. My impression is that they will take any offer. Any advice on how much a deal to expect at this time? Which dates would be the best to buy in the next 3 months. I read the buying new car article on Edmonds on how to get quotes thru the fleet sales dept at the dealers competing with each other. I definatly will be using that tactic along with getting my own financing pre approved from a lendor. Any idea's on the stock Sports RX-8 and the full loaded model? Wife demands an AT> :( Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I bought a Platinum Silver Metalic Mazda5 Touring last night. Only options were automagic transmission, wheel locks, and dealer installed tint. Price was $18,641 + $349 for tint, plus TTL. Total out the door was $21,177.33.
Invoice

There is no such thing as the Edmunds invoice price, or the CarsDirect invoice price, or the dealer's invoice price. There is only one invoice price, and Edmunds just reports what it is. So do all the other sites. Realistically, for some makes, you'll need to add advertising and other fees to the invoice since the dealers claim that they must pay them. (NOTE: By "other fees" I do not mean the dealer doc fee, which is a dealer concoction. I mean manufacturer fees.)
Out

The 2005 Escape is already out - I just saw an XLS model on Saturday while getting service at the dealer. I went to the Mazda dealer who said he had received some 2005 Tributes, and when I arrived no one could find them. They even drove me to an auxiliary lot and they weren't there. Their inventory data showed them as having arrived, but they could not find them - or their computer was counting vehicles before their actual arrival. It was very annoying.
