CitySide Subaru great sales customer service

by Joseph P on 12/27/2023

If you're looking for a good sales experience when purchasing a car, I highly recommend CitySide Subaru. They have a customer service oriented approach to their sales. My primary contact at Cityside Subaru was Ryan Skillman. He was very knowledgeable about the vehicles in inventory, and if there were any questions he couldn't answer, he would research it and forward the information promptly. As I shopped other dealerships, Ryan would message me occasionally to see how my quest for a Subaru was going and if there were any questions he could answer. After I purchased my vehicle, Ryan walked me through all of the car features and how to set my vehicle preferences. Ryan was always professional, polite, and helpful. I purchased my Subaru because of the great customer service Ryan provided and CitySide Subaru's pricing. And the rest of the sales/manager staff were equally polite and friendly.

Great service

by bahamude on 11/16/2017

As an old MetroWest Subaru customer I ended up buying my new subaru at Cityside Subaru since I had heard a lot of good things about them and they're much closer to where I live. The service on my new Crosstrek has been fast, the service folks friendly and transparent and easy to talk to. Cityside is one of the most busy Subaru dealerships I've seen and they are very efficient and honest and up front about what's going on. So far no major issues with my new Subaru as I've been bringing it in for regular maintenance and have been very pleased by the relative quick turn around. I recently bought Subaru OEM side visors and after looking at the complicated instructions asked to have the dealership install them which they did, charging me the normal labor cost which was bundled into the regularly scheduled maintenance appointment. They are honest, straightforward, and a great place to have your Subaru serviced.

Mark Lidano - Best Car Buying Experience in 30 Years

by StaceGhost on 08/24/2017

Looking for a Subaru Outback, I called or emailed multiple dealers in the area. I didn't want to negotiate, I just wanted to make a deal. I researched what a fair price would be, and took it to each dealer. Some played games, some tried to sell me something they already had on the lot. A friend mentioned CitySide, and I called them last. Mark Lidano answered the phone and within 2 minutes we had an agreement. Completely professional and knowledgable. I went in the next day and in about 30 minutes was all set (for reference, the day before I spent over 2 hours at another metrowest dealership and had to get up and begin to walk out before I could get their "best price"). Mark was pleasant and polite to us. He knows the ins and outs of selling cars. No wasted time or energy. He had complete respect for his customers. I was told by other dealers it would take a few weeks to get the car we wanted because of the model-year change over. Mark called me the next and said he had already arranged to have my car on his lot, so when did I want to pick it up. I can't remember a better experience in buying a new car. He had the best price, the quickest service and the most professional demeanor.

Terrible Experience

by nsh1 on 05/27/2015

We choose this dealership because of its good reviews and location. At the beginning our sales person was respectful and low pressure. After test driving, we agreed upon a price, shook on it, and made an appointment the following day to sign papers. The next day we turned in our credit report, agreed on a deposit amount and handed over our credit card. After a long wait the salesman returned (without the credit card) and wrote down a number that was $1200 more than what we agreed upon and said that was what they could do. He acted as if it was perfectly normal to change the price, no explanation, no apology, no returned credit card. After arguing we were rudely told by the general sales manager to go somewhere else if we thought we could get a better deal. There was no explanation of why this happened and we were treated very, very rudely. Only after we called the general manager and explained how we were treated did we get an apology. He did not, however, offer to honor their original agreement. (Both Subaru of Wakefield and MetroWest Subaru in Natick beat their deal by a significant amount. We went with MetroWest an honest, no-pressure, family-run business.)

Best car-buying experience ever

by conlewis on 01/07/2013

I had always owned Toyotas; however, last fall when the time came to buy a new car, I wanted a hatchback, and Toyota's offering was a small SUV. I did a lot of on-line research and talked to friends and decided that a Subaru Impreza was the car for me. One of my friends had bought her Impreza several years ago at Cityside and recommended the dealership (as well as the Impreza), so I went in one afternoon. Peter was the salesman called over to work with me. I told him I was interested in a 2012 Impreza; he responded that I was more likely to find Bigfoot than find a 2012 Impreza. I like people who don't mince words and I like people with a sense of humor, so Peter was the ideal salesperson for me. The rest of my experience with Cityside and Peter was just as easy and enjoyable. Peter listened to what wanted and made suggestions, but never pressured me (the same was true of Don R., who answered all my questions about warrantees clearly and promptly). I suspect that Peter gets along with most people (and probably sells a lot of cars) because he is so genuine and spontaneous. I have recommended Peter and Cityside to friends because of my experiences, and I will continue to do so.

Transmission Repair

by isaacclarke37 on 06/21/2012

Worked with Nik in Service for a very costly transmission repair. Nik and CitySide were outstanding in their communication to me, explained what needed to be replaced and why, and completed the repair in timely manner given the scope of the issue and the amount of parts and labor needed. I recommend Cityside for service to your Subaru no matter size of the repair or regular maintenance. You have earned my business for as long as I own a Subaru.

Peter Rosenberg at Cityside

by laureem on 05/23/2012

We recently purchased our first Subaru (a Forrester which is an absolute joy to drive) from Peter Rosenberg. Peter was terrific to work with - no pressure, lots of information about the car plus, the added bonus of lots of interesting conversation and exchanges of life experiences. When our son departs for college with the car eventually we will definitely be paying Peter another visit! We would highly recommend Peter and Cityside!

straightforward

by mcc7 on 06/06/2011

After shopping at many dealerships (at least 10), I had one of the most straightforward car-buying experiences here. I test drove a car and the sales person gave me a price. We went back and forth on price 3 times and then had an agreement. It really was that simple and there was no pressure from the salesperson or manager. They treated me with respect which was nice since many other dealers treated me like a dumb kid just because I am a 20 something. I have recommended this place many times and would shop here again.

high price, no decent offer, blatant lies and insults

by siamond on 09/24/2010

I still can't believe it. We drove to the parking lot of said dealer (which is close to my home), the sales guy paid scant attention to us (I didn't mind, my wife thought this was rude). The test drive was ok, nothing special. The state of the (Subaru 2005 Outback) car wasn't that great, plenty of scratches all over the place. I came home, checked the price against Edmunds TMV, and figured out this was disconnected by several thousand dollars. I visited several other dealers, choices were somewhat limited, I found a really nice & more powerful car (Outback LL Bean 2005, similar mileage, better shape) for $1000 less. I e-mailed the first dealer, expecting to get a better offer, he refused, and claimed that the use of premium gas would be very expensive. I did the math, this wasn't quite true, and I also pointed out that it's ok to use regular gas if you don't mind losing a little bit of power. Then he claimed that using regular gas would damage the V6. Which is blatant lie #1 (as confirmed by more honest dealers). I asked again for a better offer, he kept deflecting the question. When I finally e-mailed him that this was the last time I would ask, he grudgingly said "I have between $100 and $500 of leeway", blatant lie #2 and totally useless proposal. He also said that my approach was all wrong, and I should go see him and negotiate and settle on the spot. When I told him he was off-base on both price and sales tactics, he became very flustered, claiming I should look at KBB instead of Edmunds for actual sales prices (blatant lie #3), and ended up insulting me pretty good. Some people should get a new job... Do yourself a favor, go see Planet Subaru in Hanover or Village Subaru in Acton. A MUCH more pleasant experience, and much better prices too. I settled with Planet Subaru today. Well worth the drive.

Great Experience at Cityside Subaru, 12/2007

by dules on 12/23/2007

We purchased a 2008 Outback 2.5i Ltd w/VDC from Cityside this month. We started with internet pricing and the sales associate at Cityside started with the best price and the best approach. He did not push but answered questions promptly. He did ask for the sale which is his job! But no pressure at all. We comparison shopped his price against other dealers, who would not match it, then another local dealer ran a lower ad in the paper. I gave Cityside the chance to match it since we had had such a good experience thus far, and they did. Nearly all of the transaction was handled via phone or email; we were in the dealership for less than an hour to sign papers and pick up the car. Everyone from the sales person to the business manager was very professional and easy to work with. I have purchased a number of cars "in person" using the 4-square box and will never do so again after this experience. Less stress, zero confrontation or mind games, and in the end the same result - the car they wanted to sell us at the price we wanted to pay.
