Cool tip! I hope this is the appropriate forum for this. International Autos of Milwaukee,WI has 2 automatic 2008 Clubman S models on the lot that are about $2500 off the MSRP of $29,000. Too bad thats still about 3k above my price range. Also, all they're willing to knock of the MSRP for a previous years model was $1000. That too in January 2009 for the 08 models.

This has been rehashed several times, but in a nutshell, no, I wouldn't by a 2007 (They'll probably be available in January). I'd either get a 2006 or wait and get a Mini in 2008. When the new Mini came out in 2002, it was plagued by a number of problems all over the car--from build quality, to engine stumble and yo-yo. It really wasn't until 2004 (for the base Mini) or 2005 (For the Mini S) that the major issues were sorted out. The 2007 will be new from the ground up, and done by a different design team that created the first Mini--I'd wait at least until 2008, or even better, 2009, to get the bugs worked out--the new engine is an order of magnitude more complicated than the old one. Either way, if you decide to buy in Wisconsin, International Motors is very, very good--that's where I got mine (at MSRP with mats thrown in--that's it). Knauz in Chicago (Not too far from Milwaukee) is also a wonderful dealer.

I got mine in Milwaukee--took six weeks from when I placed the order. I'd consider checking other dealers--some of them ship anywhere for five hundred dollars. Classic Mini in Ohio, Knauz in Chicago, Mini of Peabody, Mini of Hampton. The reason why it takes so long where you're at is the way Mini's are allocated--there are only so many to go around in the North American market, and you're in a very high demand area. You're probably competing with people from California, since the waits from the dealers there are notorious (as are the mark up). In Texas and the midwest, the demand is less, and the dealers are more flexible with their allocations. The allocation issue is supposed to be changed with the new model; we'll see. As for an after market armrest, Mini Fini makes a nice one; there are others as well but I can't remember them all. The one nice thing about the OEM armrest is that it has a storage area, but it's so creaky, I'm afraid it'll break someday. And I don't need the storage; I replaced the bolster underneath the steering wheel with the european parcel shelf (It's much more practical than the bolster in the U.S. cars; I'm not sure why it's not standard, but it's fairly easy to switch out--not only does it give you hidden storage, but it also slightly increases leg room--I'd highly recommend it). I'll probably eventually replace my armrest with the Mini Fini one, but that will be quite a job, and will require a new piece for the center console (If you don't get the factory armrest, you won't need any new pieces for your console--the factory armrest uses a modified piece for the back of the console that won't work so well with the Mini fini).

I live in Wisconsin, so it was either Milwaukee or Chicago. Did some research on the Milwaukee dealership, knew they sell at MSRP (although they do throw in some mats and knick knacks), and had a good rep., so ordering was a breeze--I already knew what to expect. No negotiating or hassle--check into the dealers in your area; heck, give them a call, ask them their pricing policy, it'll make it even easier for you. You can set up a test drive, etc., and if they know you're coming ahead of time, you're going to be well treated. As for ordering first, negotiating later, they're not going to do that--you'll know the price when you order it. Again, expect MSRP--if they go above that, run, don't walk, out of there. As for other websites, the google will do that. But be careful, those websites are addicting....
