First year redesign
by tmanmiata on Thu Mar 05 11:32:37 PST 2009
Just bought my wife a 09' RX FWD last Saturday with Premium, Liquid Graphite Finish 18" wheels, Cargo Mat, wheel lock and Rain Sensing wiper for $31652 which is a little more than $9000 under MSRP. We contacted 4 Lexus dealers in Dallas/Fort Worth area. The 09' RX is becoming a scarce commodity in our area too. We found 3 matched our color and options but 2 were sold during the time I was trading emails back and forth. The 3rd one was actually on "reserved", meaning someone agreed to buy but had not closed the deal yet. That deal somehow did not go through, and it is the one we ended up purchased. Can we get a better deal if we hold out? Probably, but chances are we won't get the color and options we wanted. There are plenty of Black 09' RX though, but being in Texas, Black is one color we cannot live with. I am sure people will get a great deal if they don't mind the color (there is one dealer has 7). Neither my wife nor myself like 2010's styling. Of course, that is all personal taste. One thing I do know is that there is always risk buying new/first year redesign model. I worked as a test engineer in the Automotive industries earlier in my career. What I learned quickly is that no matter how well the design or how much testing/simulation you do, there will be design and manufacturing defects. Manufacturers typically will make changes to their manufacturing process and/or redesign and implement them as they get more data based on warranty service and internal testing. Some choose to ignore the issues unless it is a safety hazard then (forced to) do a massive recall. As good as Toyata, it is no exception. For this reason, personally I will not buy a new/first year redesign model. ;)

I do appreciate your position but at the same time, if they (the car dealers) will try to schiest you like this without discounting their vehicle for sale enough to compensate, then that's where I'd have to say, "Who were you kidding?" The game in this scenario becomes completely one sided (i.e., the Salesmen at the Dealer make their money on both the sides). I'd like to think I'm way more intelligent than to fall for stupidity of this nature. Citing examples for what was said above, from all the dealerships that I've showed my vehicles to (1 Honda (Bankston), 2 Nissan (Avery Johnson North Texas Nissan and Bankston Nissan Dallas), 3 Lexus (Sewell Dallas and Fort Worth as well as Park Place Plano), a Used Car (European Motors) and CarMax (Plano and Irving), only Sewell (both locations), AJ North Texas Nissan and the European Motors Used Car dealership were trying to schiest me on the Trade-in Value. The remainder dealerships were in a respectable range (i.e., within a few hundred of what I sought for the Trade in Value) BUT two factors played in to my decision here: 1. My wife wanted a Lexus; AND 2. Coincidentally, Park Place Lexus DID work their tails to get my business. One and one eventually came together when the right car got here but otherwise, the numbers were in place and the only dealy was inventory related. Bottom line....and my point to all of the above: While your theory on the current economic environment playing its impact role on my prospects applies, it only has a PARTIAL TRUTH VALUE. All that stuff is a thing of the mind. If you can sell your car and make the presentation well enough while simultaneously knowing who to weed out, you'll get your target with due time and patience. This is the one tremedously stressful thing that is a part of the car purchasing experience.

Folks, I will caution you all now to stay the heck away from the Sewell Lexus Dealerships. This includes both the Dallas and Fort Worth locations. It's not so much that they did (or didn't honor) their price quoted for the vehicle (side note: they did this well actually) but the games they played in pricing my trade in vehicle. They were a good $4k to $5k below the KBB for a good to fair condition trade due to some slight damage on the side power sliding door as well as a paint scratch on the front bumper right hand side. Folks, proceed to call this dealership with caution, they will take you for a joyride. Luckily, my salesperson point of contact in Park Place (whom I highly recommend by the way (Thank you Tony)) will match the Sewell Lexus deal 1 to 1. He's also meeting my trade-in expectations. This is what you call earning the customer's business! Sewell Dallas, when I've contacted their Pre-Owned as well as New Sales Departments, is also a dire waste to deal with. Once again, the details: MSRP: 42535 Price (Pre TT&L): 37800 Package: Premium Plus (Heated/Vented seats with Memory, Power Rear Sunshade, etc) Options: AFS HID Front side Lighting, Intuitive Park Assist Sensors, Nav with Lexus (not Mark Levinson) Audio, Rear Side Airbags, iPod Aux input (I believe this is standard) Color: Either Obsidian Black or Smoky Granite Mica Fellow Dallas Citizens in the market for an ES 350, Park Place is the way to go undoubtedly!
ES350 sales
by zhiminwen on Fri Dec 08 10:25:11 PST 2006
We will purchase a new car for my wife, either ES350 or 2007 Acura TL, before year end. We will test-drive the two cars soon and mostly do the deal around Christmas. Questions for the ES: 1. For new owners, any more experience with the transmission? This is my main concern with the ES. 2. Has anybody recently done a deal in Dallas-Fort Worth area? DFW is traditionally a very competitive car market. So far, the best I heard from this forum is ~$500 over invoice in LA and east coast. I think whatever achievable elsewhere can be done here. 3. Anybody has actual sales figure for the ES350? In the North-Dallas surrounding areas, we can usually spot all kind of hot cars right after their release. But in the months since its release, I think I only spotted ES350 twice. I checked the website of two local Lexus dealers. Both have over 250 ES350 on lot. That is a lot of inventory. Even the traffic here is kind of slower compared to others. All these seem to indicate the ES350 isn't selling that well.
Re: Considering a Lexus ES 330 Good price? [larouse]

As to price - I imagine it is possible to do quite a bit better than $29,900. We ended up negotiating down to $27,250 from what I thought was going to be $28,000. My salesman told me the Lexus certified warranty cost $845. Call your bank or credit union and get the NADA values for the car - Loan, Trade, Retail. Loan is the lowest value and is what dealers are most likely to actually have in the vehicle. "Trade value" is really a misnomer as far as NADA goes. Heated/Ventilated seats are a very nice option. Not all ES330s have them. Also, check to see if it has a 6-disc or single disc player. HID/Xenon headlights are better than standard halogens by miles and miles. I consider them an absolute MUST HAVE. If you haven't experienced them you need to. Absence of Xenons is a deal breaker for me. fwiw Depending on how many miles you drive and the original in-service date of the car having it certified might not be all that great of a deal. In my mother's case we would have been buying only six months of additional warranty, because there's 30 months of regular warranty left on her car and she will run out of time before she exceeds the mileage limitation.
2005, 20,700 miles, $28k
by tturedraider on Wed May 03 20:31:01 PDT 2006
Just bought a non-cert 2005 ES330 with 20,700 miles for $28k + ttl from a Lexus dealer. They had just taken it in on trade and we chose not to have it certified. 30 months left on warranty. It's for my mom and she only drives about 6,000 miles a year. Perfect condition, one owner, Crystal White, new tires, HIDs, rear shade, six-disc, power pedals, trunk mat & net, wheel locks, heated/ventilated seats, wood/leather steering wheel, 17" wheels.
