Edmunds is wayyy off on their pricing!!! by dollar_savvy on Mon Mar 16 10:15:49 PDT 2009

So I looked at Edmunds for the price on a new GX470 in the SF bay area. The TMV comes to about $42680, but the dealer says that their invoice price is $47615. What Edm fails to count is the 1 Dealer advertising cost $714 2 Dealer hold back $952 3 Financial reserve/floor cost $476 :P Then there is the Accessories package, lexus link, Mark Levingston/Navigation package, rear seat/A/C, Towing prep, Preffered Accessories pkg, that EDM does not include in their base pricing. I say that is a VERY bad practice on their part as it provides mis-information to the consumer.

Picked up an LS460 by topgun7 on Fri Dec 05 20:46:40 PST 2008

this afternoon from Lexus of Sacramento. LS460 with comfort plus, intuitive parking, one touch open/close trunk and power door closer, and trunk mat, wheel lock etc. MSRP 75765. Here is the term... Sales price 59692.57 doc fee 55 acquisition fee 700 total cap cost 60447.57 drive off 1033.76 (first payment) + 9450 (9 MSD) + 474 (license) + 8.75 (tire fee) = 10967.4 36 months / 15k mi per year Residual 29906 (40%) money factor 0.00118 (was 0.0019 before the 9 MSD) monthly payment 945.97 + 78.79 (tax)=1033.76 Very happy about the internet manager from Lexus of Sacramento. He breaks down all the number so I can examine each one of them before we come to term. Also very polite and easy going. Deaership is hugh and still have 7-8 08 with various equipment level (a couple red with cashmere interior look really sharp). The only problem so far is the serial number is wrong in the lease paperwork so we probably need to go back and change it (crap another 200 miles round trip..) but wifey get 2 cups from the internet manager and she is very happy. She drove it home and her initial impression is that she like it a lot (we did test drove the LS about 5 months ago). We had 6 Lexus and her last car was a CLK 55 convertible and she is very hard to please. Thanks everyone.. without this thread, I would have gotten a CTS with the big discount (and our GM card point). Also we accepted the lexus Visa card and charge 10K or the 10995 drive off on the visa card. Got a total of $550 Lexus dollars to use for future maintenance work (i.e. 15K service etc.). All in all a very nice experience... There is still a few LS460 in the bay area. But look like the number with ML package is getting smaller and smaller... So if anyone is interested, one probably need to move fast. I would highly recommend Lexus of Sacramento..

The story I got from the dealer is the dealers pick the trade-ins they want to resell and turn the less desirable cars over to the auction. Also the certified pre-owned does repair any scratches, dings, replaces wipers, filters, 100,000 mi wty, etc. For $1,000 I like the peace of mind. For $4,000 I'd take my chances but be sure to check carfax. For the 27,000 mile 2004 I bought the dealer did the 30,000 service, threw in an extra oil change, and a full tank. Good Luck!

Deneen, Thanks for the confirmation in the positive. i think it comes down to the individual salesman. Mine was 60ish and in the business forever. Here's the pertinent points of the process I used: 1. Edmunds request a quote. There are only 2 dealers in our area and they're both owned by Autoway. 2. Went to a small independent dealer (sells 130 cars/mo) who buys cars at auction and found out they pick up cars every Tuesday/Thursday. 3. Exchanged about 3 e-mails and told them the exact car I'd like to buy. The only pricing i discussed was if I could save 12,000 or more on pre-owned I'd go that way. If a new car was only $8,000 more I'd buy new. So I was stuck in the middle. 4. Stopped by the dealer and kept asking questions and made sure he knew the only thing I cared about was value, it was for my wife who only drove 5,000 mi/yr so the cpo meant nothing to me, and that the independent was searching the auction for me. I had just talked to the independent and told the salesman they didn't have anything today. I was honest throughout. I test drove the car I eventually bought and told him I'd prefer white, let me know if anything came in, and started to leave. Then he offered $28,500 so he changed my mind about white. My wife preferred the savannah anyway. I didn't think I was haggling. I wanted him to sell the car to me and I gave him the opportunity to. I'm certain he got the impression I did not want to haggle or pay top dollar. Helpful at all? I'm guessing not. To come up with a good price for cpo I used edmunds appraiser with option in excellent condition and wanted the price between trade-in and private sale. Which is what I got. Maybe the end of the month looming and being July in Florida also helped. Keep me posted!!! tampabob

I think dealer names can be said here, right ?? Just not the sales person's name, right ?? If not, admins, plz modify accordingly, since I don't post too often and not sure about all the rules. The dealer is Bay Ridge Lexus, Brooklyn, NY. 2007 should be coming very soon... (maybe already here... donno...) they don't have much 2006 model left already. The salesman is not pushy and is pretty upfront with the prices... told me best he can do is $500 over invoice and I didn't really spend any time negoiating before getting there.... (I asked for the calculator and see its below 90% mark... which should be an ok deal.... I'm not really a bargaining person, so I never expects myself to get the best deal...) :) but since they didn't have my color/equip combo, they spend 1 wk to look for my car... (I really want NAV...) finally, I settled with the sales that I'll also get the rear dvd system (cos that will make their job easier...) Retail for that is $1800, I think I got it for $1500... Pretty sure he's making some $$ on it... but I think I get an ok deal, so, didn't hassle too much.... it took them 1 day to locate a car for me after that, and then I need to talk to the finance guy... surprisingly, he's not too pushy either.... closing day, the lady is good at explaining the major functions... and such... the car is preped good... overall a good experience.... so far, no problems... (only has like 270 mi) on it... :) good luck !!!
