Re: IS250 RWD and new driver in snow [georgia12] by michaell on Thu Jul 21 11:25:11 PDT 2011

While not a Lexus owner, I have lived in Colorado for 18 years, moving here from Southern California. I see two courses of action: 1) Sell the RWD IS250 and get something with either FWD or AWD 2) Get a good set of winter tires to use in the colder months - these are not snow tires, per se, but rather tires that perform better when the temperature is less than 45 degrees F. Check Tire Rack or Discount Tire on the web for packages designed specifically for the IS250. Option 2 is certainly less expensive, and has the added benefit of allowing both sets of tires to wear more slowly.

Re: Great deals on '07 RX350 [eastwing] by glk2 on Wed Feb 21 21:05:12 PST 2007

Eastwing ~ I ended up buying out of state because I couldn't find a good deal in Colorado. This is definitely an AWD state, so the dealers aren't willing to negotiate even close to the invoice price, and I wasn't willing to pay their additional "fluff" fee, either. You are correct ~ the sales tax needs to be paid in the state you reside in. My car is enroute, so I will take care of that when it arrives. I don't know yet if CO requires the MSO before registration can occur (this is equivalent to a "birth certificate" for the car, provided by the manufacturer, and requested by the DMV). I will probably get a temporary reg. until that arrives, but it's all part of the process, and "do-able". Hope this helps!

I bought a 2005 GX 470 by rocketman on Thu Dec 02 18:02:49 PST 2004

After weeks of research on 2004 models, the best I could do was $1000 over invoice, unless I took delivery in Los Angeles, in which case I could have gotten it for $500 over. Since I live in Littleton, Colorado, that was not a good option. The $1000 over was from a broker who got cars from all over US. Costco fleet buying service was $2000 below MSRP, or about $5000 over invoice. Local dealers would not match or beat the $1000 over I could get from the broker. Conclusion: prices are a bit higher in CO than CA, due to higher demand for 4WD vehicles. I was ready to pull the trigger and buy a 2004, but then the broker was having trouble finding the right color and options, so I went with a 2005. I locked in the price yesterday and it will be delivered in about 2 weeks. It is currently in CA somewhere. The deal I got on the 2005 was Invoice plus $2800. The broker did not charge any Dealer handling fee. The local dealers charged an average of $350 for that, so it was really like paying $2450 over invoice. An equivalent 2004 (same options) would have run me $3800 less (basic invoice is $400 higher, plus $1600 for 3rd row seat, plus $2800 over instead of $1000 over). I felt it was worth the extra $3800 to get the better engine, and upgraded NAV, and not have a car that will seem like a year old 3 weeks after I get it. Resale will be that much better also. I got the following options: NAV/ML Sound, Rear Entertainment, 3rd Row Seat, Gold Trim, Rear Spoiler, Trunk Mat & Wheel locks, Tow hitch with ball mount, Chrome exhaust tips. Invoice was $47,565 + $2800 markup + $1863 for 3.7% sales tax = $52,228 total out the door cost. I did not haggle as much for the 2005 as I did when trying to buy a 2004. Once I found the best source for 2004, I used the same guy and paid what he asked for the 2005. I maybe could have haggled him down a few hundred more, but I was getting tired after weeks of shopping and just wanted to close the deal. I ended up paying more than $4000 below MSRP, so I think I did pretty well considering prices are a bit higher here in CO. Costco wanted $2000 below MSRP, and the one dealer I discussed 2005's with said they would be going for about $1000 below MSRP when they came in. When considering 2004's I thought about waiting for the 2005's to come in figuring that may drive down the price of 2004's further, or a rebate would be offered. My broker speculated this would not happen. He said lots of people hold out for the last 2004's figuring they will get a great price. Dealers know this and hold the line on price because they know there will be plenty of people looking to pick up those last few cars for a "bargain". Time will tell if this is true. In my case, it was only a $3800 difference between 2004 and 2005. Thanks to all who post here. It helped me a lot in my search. I can't wait for delivery!

Just bought an ES 330 by charliegooddog on Sun Mar 21 09:06:28 PST 2004

I just ordered an ES 330. My local dealer in Bellevue, WA and the other Washington dealers are selling cars at much higher prices than the SoCal dealers. The lowest price offer I received from Bellevue was $32,900 for the mid level Northwest Package (MSRP $35,314). Frustrated with the reluctance of Northwest dealers to negotiate a "reasonable" price, I turned to the Internet. I sent out proposals to seven dealers - one in Colorado and six in California. I picked the California dealers from posts on this Board. The response I received was overwhelming. Within two hours I received proposals from all of the dealers. Virtually all of our communication was by E-mail so I didn't have to listen to the local salesmen whining about how much money they would lose if they sold me a car (funny how the owners of dealerships are all multi-millionaires). The E-mail communication was terrific. After letting the dealers know that there was healthy competition in the marketplace, I received several quotes from California dealers at $30,700 for the California mid level package (MSRP $34,734). I have a feeling that if I had bargained hard and waited until a few days prior to the end of the month that the price would have dropped to $30,500 (but $30,700 was the low offer I actually received in writing). All of the dealers were prompt, courteous and pleasant to deal with (unlike my face to face car buying experiences). I finally placed an order with Stevinson Lexus, the Golden, CO dealer because the Colorado Package had VSC Brake Assist which the California packages did not. In rainy Washington it is a good to have VSC Brake Assist. The Colorado dealer was not the lowest price, but it was reasonably close and I have a very good feeling about the person I am dealing with and I am getting VSC. My car will be trucked to my home address. I must admit that I am a little fearful that something may go wrong (I tend to worry about things) but I feel that the cost savings justify taking a risk that there might be delivery damage or dealer insolvency issues. Many thanks to the people who have posted their experiences. Without this Board, I never would have held out for such a good deal. In particular I wish to thank atoews who has spent a considerable amount of time helping the rest of us novice buyers. When I actually get the car I will let this Board know and will update my experience. Thanks again. - charliegooddog
