Re: $1K under MSRP [hoinoy]

Thanks for the info. There is so little inventory that I am pretty sure I will simply wait out the hysteria. The rumor is that the C4C will end very soon or has already ended...who knows...good deals for some but what a circus! I figure that the C4C cash essentially goes directly from the taxpayer to the dealer since the dealer doesn't have to discount as much. What I don't understand is if it is possible to purchase in, say, San Francisco where there is more competition and then ship the car for, say, $600 in transport fees to avoid the CA taxes. That would be worth the trip especially when there will likely be more inventory to choose from in a few months. <==== That's what car shopping makes me feel like!

I am too facing the same problem. I lived in Houston and the dealer around here would not budge at all. I found a deal with Putnam dealer in the San Francisco area for $36K + TTL on a new 2008 lexus ES 350 with Navi and Premium package with a MSRP $42,235. Thanks to the post on this forum because I would never able to get the deal since it is $1500 under invoice. Even with $950 extra shipping to ship my car from SF to Houston, I am still saving thousand of dollar compare to the deal that I got in Houston. One quick correction on the statement: "Realize that you would have to license and pay the 8.25% tax in CA. I was told by many dealers in CA that you have to license the vehicle there and pay the tax.", I do not have to pay the CA sale tax. Once the car shipped to me, I will have to do all of the registration and pay the sale tax at where I lived. I hope that my experience will help some one in the market for the ES350. I am now awaiting for my car to ship to me and will recommend Putnam Lexus dealer to everyone. Please email me for the name of the sale person that I dealt with.

Thanks to all the peeps for detailing their deals so its my responsibility to list my deal for others to see. I got a bang up deal on a No Nav, basic package SGM w/ black interior 2008 IS350 at Tustin Lexus (Tustin, CA) on 11/10. My options were: o Premium Pkg o HD HID headlamps o FT 18" wheels o Z2 Pref Accessory pkg (mats, net, bumper applque...) o XM rado o rear spoiler MSRP was $40-41k and change. Purchase price was $39000 OTD (8.25% tax rate) or about $100 below KBB.com invoice. I live in San Francisco Bay Area but was at Dizzyland w/ the family, so I emailed local dealers and told them make me a deal before I fly back home. My intial goal was $1k above invoice based on past posts on this forum. I visited Westminister and Longo Lexus (El Monte). Longo had the car I wanted at $39400 OTD minus the XM and rear spoiler. At the last minute I decided to call a dealer w/in 30 minutes from home. I called an internet manager and she said they would match Longo (w/ same options) at $39500 OTD so I decided to fly back and pickup the car. A diff of $100 wasn't worth having to drive 300+ miles back to N. Cal. Long story short, Tustin called late Saturday and said they would beat the deal and throw in the 2 options (spoiler and xm radio). Factors that helped: my credit rating is in the highest teir, I agree to give 100% customer satisfaction feedback, 50% downpayment in cash, and I financed w/ the dealer. Factors that may have affected the deal: Nov is a short sales month due to holidays and dealer had excess inventory. In the prior month I tried to get local dealers to try to touch $1k above invoice. Best deal was $2k below msrp. Sacramento Lexus was an appalling $1k below MSRP!
2008 Lexus GX-470 in San Francisco Bay Area

I recently purchased a 2008 GX470 with ML, Nav, and 3rd-row seat options for $49k + tax and fees. This is in Redwood city, CA. I had an offer of $46,880 for a 2007 model (brand new) with same options but decided to settle for 2008. I hope the $2k difference was worth it.

I just wanted to say this forum was very helpful in getting a great price. I checked w/ two auto brokers and 5 dealers for pricing (phone) and it was amazing how the dealer I finally used was able to get us such a great price. I think it really helps to know exactly what you want, and to understand the true dealer cost which is sometimes below invoice. We bought a 2007 ES350 MSRP $41,872.00 for $35,850.00 before tax and license. This car came with: Premium Plus Package w/ Navigation. It was the last 2007 they had and a few days before end of the month. Lexus of Stevens Creek , San Jose, CA. The Internet salesperson was very helpful. I was a little bit suspicious at first since he wouldn't quote in writing but only on the phone. When we went there, everything was legit. He even stayed late to help us.
