I'm in Central California (Bakersfield) The local dealer has this IS350 available: Base $36,605 IS350 with 18" wheels ($830), High Intensity Headlamps ($875), Nav ($2,550), Premium Package ($840), Delivery ($825) = $42,811 MSRP After some back and forth I have been quoted: $38,535, $55 doc fee, $2797.78 CA tax (7.25%), $250 license fee, $87 registration, $8.75 CA tire disposal fee = $41,733.53 OTD. Is this a reasonable deal. I want to pull the trigger before CA increases the sales tax, tomorrow! as well as the vehicle licensing fees by almost 100% also tomorrow. Any thoughts? If I wait, the sales tax goes up by about $400 and the license will go from $250 to about $500. Thanks if anyone gets this and offers me some last second advice on the pricing.
One gas mileage data point...

Today I drove from Bakersfield, Ca. to Ridgecrest, Ca. The trip is 101 miles. I tracked my gas mileage on the way home only (all freeway miles). I divided the trip in two. For the first half of the trip, I averaged 20.3 mpg, despite the fact that it was all on the freeway: no stop and go. There is a steep grade between Bakersfield and Tehachapi, which explains the low gas mileage. For the second half of the trip I averaged 29 mpg, because there were more downill miles on the second part of the trip. The mpg for the entire trip was 24.5 mpg, all on freeways.

Congratulations! I bought mine in Bakersfield CA Nov.15th. We were on the waiting list for about 2 weeks. I only received a $500 discount and paid cash. Bummer! We live in the Central Coast and just as easily gone to Oxnard. The only real negative in the buying experince was the Finance lady who would not let up on trying to sell the extended warranty, she gave me the worst migraine, and actually convinced me the 400h was going to fall apart when it left the lot. I almost didn't buy the 400h. The other problem is my Motorola Razor bluetooth phone won't put numbers from phonebook into car bluetooth correctly. Going to exchange for new phone this week. I wish they would of offered cargo mat that others received.

Just for kicks try: Lexus of Cerritos - boasts a large inventory, plus I believe they are the Sam's Club dealer in So Cal. Jim Falk of Beverly Hills - Some posters have been happy with them. Also try Motor City Lexus in Bakersfield - they compete in southern california, but their local market is smaller as they are out of the way. Their services tend to be cheaper than in the LA area, so maybe their cars are, too. Also, you may want to try Sam's Club or Costco. Their auto deal departments may give you a "scoop" on what kind of pricing you can expect.
