LR2 Price Paid
by mrj0001tj on Thu Jul 03 12:28:59 PDT 2008
For what it's worth, I bought my LR2 back in March. Has everything but Tech package. Also is Narvik Black or whatever it's called for additional $300. I did a bit of haggling and even threatened to walk away if not given the price I wanted. I ended up paying $32,998. At the time this was in the ballpark of what Edmunds said I should be paying for it.I bought it as opposed to a lease though. Oh, and I live in CT.

Well I got the truck last night. Have 3 problems so far. 1- Sunroof not working, tested it at dealership, hour later wife tried and no go! 2- Scratches that we not repaired on drivers seat as requested, they will have to refinish seat. 3-Sat. Radio says "acquiring signal" every time I change stations, could be ant. or bad signal. The Sat radio still works but takes 10 secs to acquire signal. Oh yeah I was extremely disappointed with the detailing job the dealership did, 55K on a vehicle and they did a $30 detail job. However I had the best salesman and the best buying experience I have ever had. Dealer is checking them all out on Monday.

i am in PA. I waited until the end of the month to start negotiating and then I walked away a few times...on the January 31st the dealership called me and told me "Good news, we were able to find some money for you and we can offer the car at 489/month." I replied, "Oh, okay. If you can give it to me for $485 you have a deal and I will come in right now with the check and sign the papers." The sales manager said come on in. Looking back...I should have asked for the lower number but I feel I did a job negotiating the price to $485.

I'm PISSED. Not that I expect the salesguy to be totally forthcoming, but I"m sitting there for 1/2 hour with the SRE booklet in my hands and we're looking at the SEs and he mentions....in passing as I leave....that "Oh, the SREs have a spoiler and, uh, matching side trim for like $80 bucks more a month"....Not having a clue at the time, and now having done my research, I feel the SEs will absolutely be phased out and the SRE is a product correction. I don't think I'm getting this car after reviews I've read and I quote on the Volvo XC90 SUV for only $50 more a month....

Really? Does that mean you know for a fact that dealers in Paramus sell LR2's at a significant discount over dealers in NY? Just a funny note: When the LR2 came out last year and the price was a lot higher than the former Freelander (esp. the lease) I was really turned off to Land Rover so I went to look at the new Hummer H3; I went to Paramus because the only Hummer dealer in my area in NY was low on H3's and their lease price was horrible (they wanted 660/month for a 34,000 H3). Paramus was the same thing and the trip was a waste of time; they all acted like they were doing you a favor and the car was so "hot hot" that you would be lucky to get one. That's such a lame salesman ploy, don't you think? The thing is, I remember calling first to get "a feel" for Paramus dealers; they told me nothing on the phone but when I got there they told me everything I didn't want to hear: "the car was hot, hard to get, high lease price, blah blah blah. Come to think of it, I hate Paramus, lousy traffic too. I remember one guy there who introduced me to the boss after I told him his prices were simply too high. The "boss" shook my hand and then said: "But you really want the car, don't you?" I don't know, maybe that's how they have their fun. This year the prices of the H3 are much, much lower and the lease price is half of what it was, but I did finally drive it and it really sucks. Oh well.

hi Jax, I say find another dealer or use some kind of online buying service. I simply worked with a good dealer/salesman and negotiated it. The dealership was great! No frills. I walked out of a Land Rover dealership just 2 miles from my house because they were very rude and didn't want to even discuss things rationally. So I drove 1 1/2 hrs to another dealership (called them first and told them what I was looking for, etc.). They were great and I sealed the deal in under an hour. Yup, that included cold pack only plus tax, title and fees. I live in New England so all the dealers carry LR2s with nothing less then the cold pack. Plus you need it up here. I didn't want to fork out $3000 for the nav and satellite either. Though in hind sight, I wish I had as now I find out its near impossible to add an "integrated" after market alpine satellite receiver to the stereo head unit. So I have to use the basic "plug and play" one plugged into the AUX jack, which is ugly. Oh well. The main thing is that I absolutely love this vehicle. Best I have ever owned. And I have owned Audi and Acura and Jeeps, etc. K.
