Re: Just bought a 2010 Sport Loaded.... [threepeas]
by swimmingriver on Fri Oct 09 05:16:59 PDT 2009
Also just bought 2010 Sport with Lux and same options as you except rear entertainment and HD radio. I live in NJ and all dealers wanted full MSRP. I found a dealer in CT about an hour away (worth the trip) and bought for $64,000. MSRP was $66,895. Love the vehicle as well. The power is tremendous and transmision really smooth. Originally wanted SC version but I now think it would have been a waste of money given the power of the 2010 HSE. Question for you.. At speeds over 50 I,m hearing alot of outside wind noise in the cabin coming from Driver side. Just curious if you are experiencing same?
LR2 Price Paid
by mrj0001tj on Thu Jul 03 12:28:59 PDT 2008
For what it's worth, I bought my LR2 back in March. Has everything but Tech package. Also is Narvik Black or whatever it's called for additional $300. I did a bit of haggling and even threatened to walk away if not given the price I wanted. I ended up paying $32,998. At the time this was in the ballpark of what Edmunds said I should be paying for it.I bought it as opposed to a lease though. Oh, and I live in CT.
LR2 vs. "others"
by barryh_geg on Mon Mar 10 16:24:56 PDT 2008
I have two vehicles in the family and have always had at least one SUV. Eighteen months ago I decided to get two cars (greener) with the winter car being a loaded CTS with dedicated snow tires. We had a brutal winter and the CTS did fine but it's no SUV and the complete lack of hauling capability in the family was a bummer. Enter the LR2. Truthfully, the lure of the LR2 was primarily financial. I'm X-Plan qualified and with the $3K incentive on the SE it's a pretty compelling deal - especially with the LR2 holding it's resale value so well. Trying to find an SE with all three packages months after the incentive launched was a challenge. I managed to find one in a nearby State that ended up being an even better deal. It's Silver/Black and was entered in to the LR demo/loaner program but never driven (less than 100 miles). It's been sitting on display at the airport. With all the discounts it ended up being $34K. I'll pick it up this week sometime. So why the LR2? I wanted something on the small/medium side. The usual suspects like the CR-V, Highlander, Vue, Escape are all soul-less and really tall economy cars with extra storage space. Next tier up is X3, EX35, RDX, EX350. I've owned and loved BMWs but as soon as you start ticking off options their price becomes comical. There's a $10K MSRP difference between a loaded LR2 and comparable X3. Also, you can usually get $2-3K max off a BMW so with my discounts the LR2 is about $13K less. The EX35 is new but they aren't flying off the lots as proven by a pretty hefty incentive only a couple of months after their introduction. The "coupe" SUV/CUV thing is cool but with 5" of ground clearance and no meaningful storage what's the point? I've owned Acura's and the quality of materials is great off the showroom floor but the cost-cutting starts to show about a year in to ownership. Lexus' are commonplace and passionless. So LR2 is unique because: it's "unique," it's a fairly new design so will remain fresh for a while, fully loaded is has everything I want (except Homelink), and it's predicted to hold it's resale very well (let's see what Tata does to that). I had a new 1995 Disco II for about a year through an old job and never had any problems and loved the LR quirkiness. Quality is kind of a luck of the draw thing so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my LR2 will defy the JD Powers averages. So that's my story; your mileage may vary...
Re: LR2 Great Lease Deal - LOUSY FEES [bateman1]
by british_rover on Sun Aug 26 18:01:23 PDT 2007
I will try not to insult you in this post but I am sorely tempted. Dealers don't make any money on Tax that money is the states money. I have only had one person blow their top about the tax on ESCROWING excise/property tax. If you don't believe that the state requires that to be taxed then please call someone in your state treasurer's office and they will tell you that it MUST be. Somewhere I have a letter from the CT government confirming this I will see if I can find it. The bank fee is part of the cap cost so it must be taxed just like the doc fee. The majority of your complaints are just stupid TAXES go to the state. Neither Land Rover nor the dealer gets any profit from collecting taxes. If they do over collect for some reason then when the paperwork is submitted to the RMV a refund check will be cut back to you. All leases have acquisition fees attached to them. Sometimes they are called bank fees. In fact $595 is fairly reasonable for a bank fee. Last time I did a Chase lease the bank fee was $995. A 249 doc fee is very reasonable. Some of the dealers in my area charge 349 or more. As to your complaint that they are not losing money well they are at least as far as the sales department is concerned. The invoice price of your car is $32,578. That 300 dollar advertising fee is a legitimate fee that Land Rover charges all the dealerships in that market. You have a Cap cost of 32,500 listed so they are losing 78 dollars on the front end to make the sale. If that 32,500 cap cost includes the 595 acquisition fee then they are losing 673 dollars. So to sum up the 595 fee goes to Land Rover directly and is not being marked up a penny by the dealer. You can debate wither the doc fee is pure profit or not but even if it is it doesn't cover the 673 dollar loss on the car. And finally ALL TAXES GO TO THE STATE AND NOT DO THE DEALER OR LAND ROVER Why is that so hard for so called "leasing experts" to understand. Since you are such an expert why don't you calculate out what you would pay in excise tax on the LR2 if it was not escrowed into the lease. I guarantee that it is cheaper to have the excise tax escrowed into the lease. I have done the math for several different people and every time you come out ahead by including it in the lease. Over a two year lease you are only paying $977.04 in excise tax. If you paid it directly on a nearly 35,000 dollar vehicle I know Mass would charge you more. Plus this is more convenient since you never get a tax bill from the state. Also having the tax built into the lease saves you from getting a tax bill months and months after your lease ends. People hate when they have to pay tax on a car that they no longer have. You are complaining about a 5 percent tax on 40 bucks. That is only 2 bucks a month. That is only half a percent of your total lease payment.

That sounds like a good deal. For the exact same package, I was quoted yesterday: $3605 down and $635.53 a month for 24 months at 15k miles. This includes all taxes (CT) and fees. Even with the extra monthly mileage, this seems much higher than your deal. The purchase price was $37,950 (includes fees but not tax). Which dealers did you use?

I appreciate all the info provided here and on Lease page. Since lease rates were just grossly uncompetitive (I could lease the Volvo xc90 and lexus rx330 for less) we went with the purchase - thinking we can flip before 4 yrs if a problem. We bought blue/ tan interior with navigation, lights and heated seats and luggage rack for $38,200. The car includes so man things that are extras at other companies - I think the value is pretty good. Dealer in Darien CT was decent to deal with if you're close by.
