Agreed, signing was my fault, but to make a long story short, the things promised were not what they seemed and I was held hostage. They had the 2004 vehicle in service and had me in the dealership for 6 hours with no way to leave. And in the same way that the lemon law protects consumers, it protects the dealers. They don't have to honor what you paid in the first place, they give "fair market value" and factor in depreciation and length of use when/if they replace the vehicle. Weston Kia of Gresham, Oregon made promises to help me with the problem car, guaranteed me that the 2004 would not be sold, but returned to Kia in California for diagnosis and technical training, but turned around then next day and sold the car off the lot. Telling me that they "had a permanent fix for the problem the car was experiencing." I don't have as big a problem with the fact that I am paying too much money for the 2006, my problem is that I traded one bad vehicle for another equally bad vehicle. My original trade-in was upside down, but we needed the family vehicle so I took that loss.

I have an interesting story for you. We just paid $23699. out the door for the base Sedona EX in red, and we didn't get any of their rebates, incentives or advertised 3.9% financing. We originally test drove this model at Keifer Kia in Eugene, Oregon last week, and then started putting out feelers over the Internet for competitive pricing. To make a long story short, our salesman at Keifer checked with the "big boss" and couldn't or wouldn't come close to any of the offers we received from out of town. He lied about the invoice price, I suppose assuming we didn't know any better, and when I confronted him about it he stopped responding to my emails altogether. Meanwhile, two Internet dealers in the Portland area starting playing hardball with each other for our business, which got really exciting. A particular saleswoman at Weston Kia in Gresham won us over and made our buying experience truly enjoyable. HOWEVER, there is an ironic addendum to this tale. My husband wanted to know why the car we were buying had 161 miles on it, and it turns out Weston Kia had to do a dealer trade with Keifer Kia to get the exact model and color we wanted. They had to drive it from Eugene to Portland, and we had to drive from Eugene to Portland to pick it up and bring it back! And yes, you guessed it folks.. We ended up with the exact car we had test driven in Eugene a week earlier! For convenience sake, we would much rather have bought the car through Keifer, but we feel that in our case they were deceptive and not people we wanted to deal with. In your situation, I believe you could probably shave a few hundred dollars off your final price if you were willing to go to Portland, but you would have to weigh the potential savings against the cost of your time, gas, and aggravation to get there. I don't know about negotiations once you've made a deposit, but you can get your deposit back if you change your mind. Good luck!

We just bought our new 05 LX 4x4 with ABS, floor mats, cargo tray, and first aid kit for $19,680 cash plus trade-in (95 Miata with 205K miles). The first dealership we went to (Ron Tonkin in Gresham, OR) pretty much laughed us out the door when we offered $18,500 and the trade-in; they wouldn't even come close to that number and said it couldn't be done. The closest they came for a vehicle with the same options was $23K, and would only give us $500 for our car. We just went down the road to the next Kia dealership (Weston Kia) and offered them the same deal, and they worked with us. We're happy with the deal we got, and we will do business with Weston dealerships in Oregon again. They were great! The only advice I can offer is don't back down! Name the price you want to pay, and if the dealership can't do it, go on to the next one. Someone will work with you; don't let them intimidate you...and have fun car shopping!!
