Re: Question about 04 Kia Sedona EX [cajunsantafe04]

You will love your EX with 2 exceptions -- GAS MILEAGE, and GAS MILEAGE!! Very few 1st generation Sedona owners are getting any where near the EPA estimate. We have an 04 Sedona EX equiped like you, and we average 14-16 mpg in town, and best Hwy mpg has been 21.5. My old 88 Dodge Grand Caravan with 203K miles does better than that. That being said, it is a great van, and you got a great deal, as we paid more than double that and then some in Jan 04 for our van, new off the showroom floor. Not unhappy with the van, but resale value is really a BUMMER!! Your warranty from KIA is only about half of original for second owner, but atleast you have something. There have been 4 or 5 recalls on the 02-05 Sedona's, so be sure to check with Kia as to whether all have been performed on your particular KIA. Brakes are another issue with the 1st gen. Sedona's, but we have not had any problems in 26K miles. We also have ABS option, maybe that helps. Good Luck, and keep reporting in. Boxwrench
owner of KIA Sedona with 100K plus miles on it.

I found this area when I bought my Pontiac G6 a few weeks ago. I saw this group and thought I would mention that I bought a Sedona EX, a 2002, in DEC of 2001. I drive about 85 mniles a day and have 100K plus miles on it now. I had not had lot of trouble out of it and still love it. It has all the options available at the time except sunroof and rear spoiler. I bought it when I was visiting my son in Pensacola, FL. I paid 19K and change, can't remember exactly now. I called back to VaBch, where I live< to see if dealer could match price. I prefer to buy local if possible. They were 3K more than in FL so I got it there and drove back to VA. Below are the issues I have had. When it was about a month old I got a stress crack in the windshield. Of course the dealer wanted to say it was road hazard, but I knew it wasn't. It was cold one morning and when I closed the door I saw the crack happen. I finally told the service guy to fix it under warranty or get the KIA rep out to look at it. I did that after the guy was using a manafrying glass to try and find a point of impact along the crack. It pissed me off, but that was a dealer thing and all dealers will try and say road hazard when it comes to glass breakage so will have to claim in on your insurance instead of them fixing it under warranty. I had a shifting problem, it did not alway shift into 4th gear. that was at about 70K miles. I forget how much that cost me. I was a little upset that it wasn't covered under the 100K warranty. That is what the dealer said anyway. But it wasn't a lot to replace it. I think 200.00 or so. I also had a new filter put in the transmission and new fluid put in it. that was another 200.00 or so, but I consider that routine maintenance. When it had about 90K miles on it I had the timing belt replaced. That was rip off as it is on all cars. That cost me 450.00 or so. But I had a timing belt break on a car once and it put a vale through a piston, so I don't take chances with them VaGator :)
Leftover '05
by craigmri on Sun May 14 04:28:07 PDT 2006
As a current owner of an '04 Sedona EX(Wife's van), I'm in need of a new vehicle for myself. This vehicle will be used for work. I get a monthly allowance of $400 and they pay for all my gas(Company gas card). I was thinking about a number of options for my wife and I would take over her Sedona for work. Now I'm wondering about simply buying a leftover '05 LX if one could be had really inexpensively. Has anyone heard of any screaming deals out there? Craig

Turned the Sorrento in earlier this evening to Enterprise. Totally unimpressed with the car. With only 7230 on the odo, the car shuddered from a stop when I started to accelerate. Very disconcerting. It sure moved once it got going and the brakes worked o k, don't know if it had ABS. The plastics were not up to Japanese standards and it wouldn't fit in the garage. The mileage was worse than I expected also. I did love the high seating position though...a nice commanding view of the road ahead. I wonder if the Sportage would be a better fit for me when the time comes. Still unsure about the long term reliability & quality of the interior parts though. Think I'd rather pony up a little more for the Rav4 or the CRV and get the Toyota/Honda quality. I know one pays a premium for them, but they do set the benchmark in the small ute class...hands down! Just my $.02 here after having driven the Sorrento about 100 miles. The Sandman :(
Sorrento LX Rental

I got a Sorrento LX from Enterprise this evening and it's a real blast to drive. It's a bit to big and tall for me with my bad back and all, but I now know that a small sport ute might just be the ticket for me. I'll still enjoy the ride for the 3 or 4 days that I'll have it though. Doesn't Kia make a smaller sport ute now? The Sandman
Re: 2005 Sedona EX Standard Options [philberto]

Philberto, I guess St. Lucie Cty. has the same tax rules as Volusia Cty. Ref: Black Grill-- Why not just paint the mesh with Flat Black paint? I did notice the LX models with all one color "Everything" didn't look as good. I bought a Kia bug shield/deflector and installed it myself and it makes the frontal area look much different, Better in my opinion. As for a Hitch, I checked with Kia and they want $250 - plus installation. I found a Reese hitch online for $113 at e-trailer.com How is your gas mileage? The way my wife drives, the best we get is about 16 mpg. Very disapointing. Boxwrench
