Dealer mark up
by 08outtie on Mon Nov 02 12:11:02 PST 2009
I just stopped by a Kia dealership in San Jose, CA. They have mark up on both the cars that I was looking at, Soul and Forte. The mark up is about $2K on both vehicles for all trims except the base. The Soul that they put inside the showroom was over $20K on the dealer's sticker with the mark up. I know that final price is negotiable, so I wouldn't care much about the number on the sticker and I wasn't ready to buy yesterday anyway. The salesperson sounded nice enough even knowing I was there just to look. But come on, in my opinion, Kia is in no place to ask for mark up even their vehicles are now competitive among other Japanese manufacturers. Even if they are willing to negotiate down from the sticker, putting a mark up on a supposedly "value alternative" is deterring shoppers. I also went to Scion. the dealer I went to told me that they do not negotiate. They said they have "no hassle pricing" LoL. But at least they are selling everything at MSRP and in fact they actually sold out all the xD and xB. They had no inventory to show me because of the result from CfC. So comparing a dealer who had experienced high demand, sold out inventory and charging MSRP, the Kia dealer is really disappointing by putting a mark up.

Oh, trust me, I have. I'm halfway to qualifying for a good case, on both bases my state uses. CA requires 1) Reasonable number of attempts to repair problem - generally 4, but not necessarily, or 2) In the shop 30 days in the first 18 months of ownership - does not have to be for the same problem. 3) Also, the problem has to affect safety or usability of the vehicle (i.e., can't be for a minor problem like an interior light that they can't get to work or something of that nature). #2 is why I'm not pushing them too hard. I really don't want the thing anymore. I've also read that in certain circumstances, a refund can be ordered even if the above are not met, and I may have my attorney friend look into that for me if they don't have it fixed by the end of the week.

>...We're in the process of getting a new car... we have been to one dealership in the San Fernando Valley, CA, so far, just to find out that they only had a Rondo LX in their lot - 5 seater. For some (good) reasons my husband absolutely wants the 3rd row, so we'll probably check out the 7 seater this weekend in Glendale, CA. [Gill] Your husband is smart. I purchased the 5 seater last March and I find that there are times when I wish I had that third row especially when I am hauling the grandkids around town. I eMailed the dealership in Glendale, and here's his response for a fully loaded Rondo: [Gill] E-mail/fax all the dealers within a reasonable distance and basically tell them what you are looking for and what is there best price. If there is a Costco auto program in your area, the affiliated dealer should offer the vehicle for $100 over invoice excluding the group advertising fee and shipping. That way, you can get an idea of the upper limits of your offer. >...Our Rondo comes with leather and moon roof and 3rd row, the MSRP is $25,105 and your internet price after all discounts and rebate is only $19,867. I am not sure if this is a LX or EX model, I believe it is an EX model as only EX models come with optional leather seats. I am not sure if it is the V4 or V6 model, too. [Gill] Although leather can be special ordered on an EX, it usually isn't because the Ex is a mid range car. However, if it has a 3rd row, then it has a V6. >Do you guys think it's a good price? I wonder how much lower they could go. I have to admit, I never even owned a car, [Gill] I will be honest and blunt with you. You are in no position to buy a car because you don't have any idea of the cost basis. They will eat you alive. Once you find out that data, you are ready. Also, it well may be worth your while to wait until the last week of this quarter when the factory rebates are much higher and they need to move merchandise. Last year, KIA was offering $5k in cash back on the Sadona. >...I'll be much likely to just take over my husband's Toyota Corolla while he'll be driving the Rondo (so no trade-in). We have seen the 5 seater and really liked it, but the 3rd row would be the creme de la creme... [Gill] No trade-in makes the deal a lot cleaner. >...Any advice on this? [Gill] Yes, go to fightingchance . com and pay $35 for an analysis of the pricing. Using their strategy, I got my Rondo for $1,099 under invoice. It really works. >...An alternative would be the Mazda5 Sport / Touring. Thanks - by the way, it seems the people who actually got a Rondo really like it - that's good to hear! I purchased my I-4 Rondo in March of 07 in the Seattle market area; drove it to up state New York; to Washington, DC; and, back to the Tacoma area. Loaded with baggage, two large teens, and my wife and I. We consistantly got 27 to 30 mph. The milage dipped to 25 around town as we approached the 15K mini-tune-up. After that, we are back to the 27 mph figure. My only complaint is that the vehicle is noisy on a concrete road.

Re: Pricing for 2007 EX w/ Power, Luxury, and Ent. packages [typer_801]

We own an '07 Honda Odyssey. Love it. Need another van, can't afford another Ody, so looking at the Kia/Hyundai vans. Rented a '07 Sedona LX from Enterprise in summer of '07 to drive from LA, CA to LV, NV and back. Surprise, we loved it, it was great transportation for our family of 4. So here at the new year '08 I considered buying one, and just about had myself talked into it. Except, dealers in our area still want too much, given the instant drastic depreciation. And the new and used Ody's from Honda dealers are also too expensive for us, so I will have to wait and watch prices. -Gary K
Almost purchased the 2007 KIA Spectra 5
by docbillnet on Tue Aug 28 21:25:40 PDT 2007
We were ready to purchase the KIA here in Hamilton. The dealer gave us a turnkey quote of $22767.60 for the 2007 LT Convenience Automatic with 0% financing. I did research, and thought this was a pretty good deal, as this corresponds to about $1600 discount. We were going to finalize the deal today, but I notice of the three payment plans was $379 per month for 60 months + a $3000 deposit. But that totaled $25767.60. When we asked about it, we were told she made a mistake, and the correct turnkey price was $25558.62. And that was computed from a vehicle price of $20020. I did the math, and figured out, somewhere there was an extra $700 fee they did not tell us about, and there quote was $1600 more than what the kia.ca website computes after I add the 14% tax. So we politely said no thanks and bought a 2008 Toyota Matrix instead. In the end we paid about a thousand dollars more for the Toyota Matrix due to financing costs, but the car hold is value better, and it is a 2008 not a 2007. I just don't get it. The KIA is clearly a lower quality vehicle, with nearly twice the cost of routine maintenance. Why would someone pay so much for it? And why can't they even give quotes were all the numbers add up correctly? And do they think we are idiots enough to believe the Canadian version gets 46 MPG, when the US version gets 30 MPG? Bill
