How I spent my Saturday :-)
by dwynne on Mon Jan 28 08:43:37 PST 2008
Started looking at coupes last June, switched to the new sedan (loved the new design interior and features), had trouble finding a 6mt loaded, dealer found a car but it was hail dinged, ordered a new 08 sedan, came in in Oct with horrible lease numbers, waited for better rates, got better rates and could not (again) find a 6mt sedan loaded anywhere near, waited more and FINALLY got a good lease deal on a G37 coupe. Picked it up on Saturday. Worth the 8 month wait :D . It is G37 sport 6MT Liquid Platinum w/Graphite leather with premium/nav/tech and (unfortunately) splash guards, trunk mat, and cargo net. $43,175 MSRP with an invoice of $39,316 and my price was $39,628.19 (VPP plan C) less the $500 in customer cash made my price $39,128.19 ($187.81 under invoice) with $0 (gasp) dealer doc fee and no other add ons. Free wheel locks too! I DID have to pay to have the car hauled from the dealer where it was located (I said the 6mt cars in the colors I wanted were hard to find), but the haul charge was far less than the stocking dealers $500 doc fee! My car was new with 12 miles or something on it rather than having been driven from dealership to dealership, and the stocking dealer was 2 hours further drive (round trip). I picked it up from Harper Infiniti in Knoxville on Saturday and everything went smooth. We did all the numbers via the phone and e-mail, so I just showed up, checked the car over (perfect) and test drove it (perfect) then signed the paperwork. After going over all the buttons and features I was back on the road to home. My salesperson and the F&I person were both first rate. Awesome car, awesome stereo, awesome features - "laser cruise" and backup camera my favorites. Biggest worry: my 17 year old son will steal it and never bring it back :D . 2nd Biggest worry: bending a rim (really low profile tires) and/or having to buy a new tire - $223 each front, $266 each rear plus shipping from TireRack. Can't wait for the very long break in period to be over. Dennis

These are summer tread tires and the dry and wet grip would be better than the normal all-season tires, but you would have no grip in ice and snow (if you live where that is an issue). They are lower profile for better handling at the expense of a stiffer ride. Better response, but a higher possibility of bending a rim hitting a pot hole. You also can't rotate the tires since they are not the same front and rear, which means shorter tire life. And you are correct, if you check online prices there are lots of good choices in the normal size for $100 or less, in upgraded tire sizes very few choices (2 or 3?) and all are VERY expensive. Softer rubber compound means better grip but shorter life - coupled with the can't rotate factor and you could be looking for new rubber at 15k or so. If you are not concerned about the extra performance then I would pass on the upgrade. More expense now and down the road. *I* would prefer the extra grip, but I have another car to drive in the snow (with snow tires on it) and don't drive any one car a lot of miles per year - so the tire expense does not come up as often. Re: G35x AWD with SPORTS PACKAGE [fit2run]

I think it is a waste of your money. The paddle shifters are a shiny bauble - if you want to change gears yourself get a 6mt car. Ditto the exterior changes, aluminum pedals, and the "stitching". The sport seats might be worth a bit extra, but may not be as comfy as the non-sport seats. That leaves you with the tires. The x comes with: Double 5-spoke, 17 x 7.5-inch aluminum-alloy wheels with 225/55R17 V-rated all-season performance tires The sports pack tires should be: Split 7-spoke 18 x 7.5-inch (front and rear) aluminum-alloy wheels. 225/50R18 (front and rear) V-rated all-season tires Dropping the aspect ratio can make the car a bit more responsive but at the cost of some ride quality (and the risk of bending a rim in a pot hole). At least on the x tire or sports pack all the tires are the same size - on the other sedans they are staggered so you can't rotate your tires for longer life. The real kicker is when you have to replace the tires - I am sure the soft V rated tires will wear out before your lease is up. Plug in the normal x size at TireRack and you have tons of choices starting at $87 each and up and some really good choices under $100. Plug in the optional sport/tire pack size and they have 4 choices ranging from $99 up to $191 EACH. The $99 tire is not a performance tire, just a touring tire. The only other all season tire they carry in this size IS a performance all season but it is $174 EACH. So pay more now for a little fluff and not much content, then when you need tires you will be paying more again. So is $1,100 at MSRP worth it? No way I would say. I also would not buy the car without a thorough test drive and comparison to the non-sports x sedan - which you could do if you wait around for months for the car to come in. Your money would be better spent on a set of snow tires and wheels. Looks like about $1,200 delivered for 4 Blizzaks mounted on 17" alloy wheels with tire pressure sensors. When you wear out your OEM tires you could then go to performance summer tread tires and gain more grip than the sports pack tires would provide - and you would have tons more grip in the ice and snow with the dedicated snow tires installed. Re: Sending a Lease Proposal for G35 Coupe: What do you think? [bswann]

bswann, That's baloney! The $1500 is a cash to dealer incentive. It doesn't matter whether you're buying or leasing. In fact, every leased are is a sold car; someone has to buy it. Your calculations are spot on. I would not bend. Tell the dealer that this is your final offer... take it or leave it. That's what I would do. But, only you can make that decision. Keep me posted. Good luck! John

Did you have a trade and, if so, were they fair on that?

"Doc Fee............... 695.00" OK. Stop right there. Folks like to haggle over an extra couple of hundred bucks under or over invoice and let stuff like this slide. Where I used to work, our doc. fee was $45 and not a penny more. The doc fee is all pure profit and is negotiable like anything else.
