Technically, your security deposit shouldn't be at risk.. But, once the insurance company and the leasing bank start talking about payoffs, almost anything can happen.. I've yet to hear a definitive "you can never lose that deposit, due to accident".

I have a question nonetheless. What happens to the security deposit(s) if the car is stolen or totalled? We know that any "down payment" is lost, but I've never seen the security deposit addressed.

Re: G35 for $1000 under invoice? [cb6]: by dwynne on Fri May 09 04:31:30 PDT 2008; I call bogus on this one. The MSRP on a car equipped as listed is $38,330 with an invoice of $35,010. The IFS residual on a 24 month lease is 69% for 15k miles and 70% for 12k miles (10k miles not available on a 24 month lease). So 70% of $38,330 is $26,831. The IFS MF is 0.00126 . If you plug the residual, MF, and payment into a lease calc and solve for the cap cost you get $33,386 which is $1,624 under invoice. Since they claim "$0 down" then they must have rolled the $595 bank fee into the cap cost which makes it $2,219 under invoice. I don't think that is going to fly. Note that the ads say "from $349 w/$0 down". The $349 may be a base model G and the one shown will be more. Or it could be like the NY "Deal" from a month or two back, an open ended lease. Dennis

If a 3rd party lease watch out for an open ended lease. Some dealer(s) in NY were advertising really cheap sounding lease deals - turns out it was an open ended lease which is NOTHING you want any part of. With "nothing down" and a $400 payment it sounds like this is not a normal lease. Dennis

On my receipt it indicates $795 bank fee+ $715 destination + $180 for NY plates & registration =$1,690 Let's hope that's all I have to pay! It must be a new york area thing to mark up the bank fee to $795, I've spoken to 3 other dealers and everyone's bank fee is $795.

Lease term 39 month / 15 K per year. - gross cap cost is $37,255 ($35,114 + $1,546 tax + $595 aquisition) - residual is $22,021 - depreciation amt is $15,234 - rent charge is $4,207 - monthly payt is $498 (payt would have been $492 but the dealer gave me $500 cash for my last SAAB lease payt) - $716 down (1st month + DMV fees only) I live in Albany, NY and had a great experience with this transaction. They originally told me $542 mo. payt + $2500 down and I ended up with the above deal. I've been leasing since 1988 and I felt this was a good transaction. Good luck JC
