Good Lease Deal? by gguy8 on Tue Jan 11 21:05:25 PST 2011

Dear Carman, I live in northern New Jersey and due to the fact the lease on my 2007 G35x was about done, I decided to lease a 2011 G37x w/ premium and navigation packages at the end of December. Please let me know your opinion on whether I received a good deal or not. Here are the details of my lease: MSRP: $41,890 Invoice: $38,500 Residual: 61% Money Factor: 0.00179 Terms: 39 months/15,000 miles per year Selling Price: $37,427.90 Money Due at Lease Signing: $1500 ($373.42 cap reduction, $428.15 first payment, $381.70 registration fees. $20.23 sales tax paid in advance, $289.00 document fee, $7.50 NJ tire fee) Rebates: $1000 loyalty rebate Money Added to Lease: $1771.86 ($1176.86 NJ up-front sales tax + $595 registration fee) Monthly Payment= $428.15 I thought at first that I received a really good deal, but after looking at this forum, it appears that a lot of people were getting like $3000 below invoice. I don't see how that is possible, as I had to really negotiate to get the price I got. Also, is it better that I did the lease in December, or do you think it would have been more advantageous for me to have waited till this month? I look forward to your response. Thanks.

Re: Trade in Sales Tax Savings on a Lease?? [fpinho] by delta737h on Sat May 15 05:00:08 PDT 2010

fpinho, Sales tax on leases in New Jersey are computed in the same way that they are here in Ohio. The taxable payment is computed which includes those taxable items that you're capitalizing (financing) in the lease (e.g., acquisition fee). Non-taxables (e.g., trade value, state mandated fees, other taxes- tax levied on tax is illegal in NJ) capitalized in the the lease are, of course, excluded. The selling price is increased by all taxable items financed in the lease. The trade value is deducted from this sum. The result is called the Taxable Capitalized Cost (TCC). Your taxable payment is computed as follows... MF x (TCC + RV) + (TCC - RV) / Term where MF = Money Factor TCC = Taxable Cap Cost RV = Residual Value Your total sales tax liability is Taxable Payment x Term x Sales Tax Rate So, for example, if your taxable payment is $300 and you're leasing for a term of 36 months, then your NJ Sales Tax liability at 7% amounts to... $300 per month x 36 months x 7% = $756 Hope this helps. Re: Update on Holman Infiniti of NJ [members78] by gooddeal2 on Mon Sep 07 13:46:28 PDT 2009

Well it turns out Holman Infiniti of New Jersey was playing games. I didn't post anything after you said you got a good deal w/ them. I think they might change the way they do business. I purchase 3 infinitis for the last 4 years. I stopped by this dealer every time I want to get a new car b/c it's on my way to work. However, their deals are usually a lot higher than other dealers in the area. So, I never got a car from them.
