leon, You're absolutely right! Never put money down on a vehicle as it's a depreciating asset. Another reason is that if the car is stolen or totaled, you may lose all or part of the down payment as GAP covers only the amount by which the lease balance exceeds the actual cash value of the vehicle. So, it's best to stick the equity in your pocket. There are a some states (e.g., AL, Ill, NV, MD, TX, VA) that tax the full selling price. But, you have to remember that every leased vehicle is a sold vehicle. And, yes, if you lease and then exercise your buy option, you will be taxed on the outstanding lease balance (residual... for full term leases) plus the purchase option fee, if any. Most states, if not all, consider the front end lease transaction and the back end purchase transaction as two seperate and distinct transactions. Accordingly, tax is levied on both transactions. Yes, you can negotiate a trade with the original dealer. In fact, you can negotiate a trade with any dealer. Hope this helps. John TheAutoLeaseGeek

Thanks for the reply. Appreciate all the help. I'm planning to get more info on buying it out of state (no dealership near Reno, NV) so talking to a dealership in California. Trying to figure how to avoid paying tax in California which is almost 2% higher. Will post the final deal before I sign it to see what you guys think. Thanks for all the help so far.

Lease Tax on G37 Coupe by bullishtaurus on Thu Jul 22 21:07:28 PDT 2010

Hello all, I recently visited one of the local Infiniti dealerships here in Las Vegas, NV, and worked out a deal that even though it looked fine to me after crunching my numbers back and forth using some of the lease calculators available out there, it didn’t seem nearly as good as some of the deals I’ve seen posted on the forum. Needless today, I ended up walking away that day because I felt that I had not done enough research to go through with it and I'm glad I did because now I know about the $1000 Conquest Cash Bonus. This is what the deal looked like off the top of my head because I failed to keep the lease worksheet (I know… shame on me!): 2010 Infiniti G37 Coupe with Premium Package and Navigation Payment: $500 ($463 + NV Tax) Term: 39 months Miles: 12K miles/year Due at signing: $1095 ($500 first payment + $595 acquisition fee) Sticker: $43,565 Negotiated Price: $39,125 I can’t remember the money factor or the residual, although, I believe the latter was over $25,000. Given the fact that I'm not providing enough data, I can't really ask you, guys, whether it is a good deal or not; however, comments are always appreciated. So my question: I noticed in the lease worksheet that I was being taxed on both the payment as stated above and on the price of the car itself, so the net cap cost ended up somewhere over $42,000. Is that the way it’s supposed to be for most leases? I’m basically getting double-taxed! Thanks!

2010 Infiniti Journey Sedan Lease by fitzgibbons1 on Mon Jan 04 16:21:22 PST 2010

I just received a quote on a 2010 Infiniti G37 Journey Sedan, premium package, blue slate with graphite interior. 36 months, 15K miles. Money factor of .00172. Residual of 58% which comes out to $21,729.70. I have to see the final numbers although I am supposed to put down a little less than $1600 which is the doc fee, 1st month and one other charge, and with tax included (8.1% in NV), my payment is supposed to be $569. I also have $1000 in loyalty cash to use on the deal as well. How am I doing with this deal?

VPP program on G-35 coupes is being honored by Towbin Infiniti, Las Vegas, NV. Got to figure out shipping expense but even with that included its cheaper than most local dealers. Just picked up the following: G35, Ivory Pearl, wheat interior with Sport, Premium, Nav, Aero packages had it shipped and under cut local dealer by a wide margin.
