Re: 2009 AWD sedan quote - A Good Deal? [wahobbit]

My experience at Passport was fair--nothing special. I actually live five minutes from JBA, but they didn't have the loaded model I was looking for at the time. (They did locate on up in New Jersey and offered to drive--not flatbed, but drive--it down, which I declined.) Passport gave me their "best, final" offer on the phone one day ("any lower and we won't make any profit on it!"), but when I let them know (no bluff) that JBA beat their offer by $300, they were able to miraculously meet it.

Greetings from a Marylander. I opted for the AWD because I like the added traction in all weather situations (accelerating in the rainstorm last week was an amazing experience that's nearly impossible in FWD/RWD cars), but it does come with more weight and cost, so it's your choice. I certainly wouldn't argue it's "mandatory" in this region, but summer tires (with the RWD sport package) definitely don't play well in the snow. I feel your pain regarding the NAV, especially--as you point out--good portable units cost just a few hundred dollars. In defense of the factory option, (a) it's a much bigger and more detailed screen, (b) it doesn't invite break-ins, (c) it's neatly integrated with XM traffic, and (d) it includes the awesome hard-drive music box. And, resale value should be taken into account; as navs become increasingly common in 30k+ cars (and even some below), it may be difficult to sell a car without it in a few years if that's what most buyers are expecting. But, of course, it's your call. The price quote you got sounds very good to me. I ended purchasing from Passport Infiniti in Alexandria, after cross-shopping all the area dealers (mainly because they had the only fully loaded G37xS around at the time).

Based on the press release, I got the impression it will be very late this year or early 2010 before they're on the lots. You can ask your dealer, but I heard wildly varying estimates when I asked (anything from August [which I highly doubt] to December [maybe]).

Nice...I just picked up nearly exactly the same car last weekend (except mine is platinum/graphite), and I managed to get about the same deal (a couple of hundred less, but not a big deal). What's amusing is that I think I almost bought your car! I was looking for an XS with nav/tech/prem/sport, and a local dealer found only a small handful of them in the northeast corner of the country. One of them was in the "Chicago area," so I'm assuming it was yours. I ended up finding a closer in in NoVA, but anyway, enjoy. It's a fantastic car.
Re: How much can I negotiate off a 2009 G37x demo with 5k miles [dripdried]

Personally, I have the same aversion to demo cars that I do to PC's that have been running on the the Best Buy floor for six months. That being said, I'd think you should be able to get it for at least $6-8k off the selling price (i.e. $30-32k). They may balk at first, but if you show them the money my hunch is they'll probably take it.

Yup, a 2009. I forgot to mention, the invoice was $39,895. And, likewise, I'll be purchasing through Passport. I never even visited in person--did all the negotiations by phone since I live close to Baltimore. I'll be paying cash, so we didn't discuss financing specials (and that also may be why I was able to get such a good deal). They seemed to dig in their heels after one round of phone calls and gave me their best "we'll do it at this price but we can't go any lower because we're just breaking even" offer, but then were willing to drop it another $300 later that day when they saw I was willing to go with another dealer. BTW, how do you find the black leather? I'm dreading how hot it will be in the summer sun...
