dwynne-- thanks for your excellent advice. I hate to car shop because of the dealer games, so I thought I would share this basic "how to start" email, based on suggestions from dwynne and others in this forum. I found the "internet sales guy" email address on the dealership website. For me, if the email address was not online, I assumed the dealer was a bozo (at best) and I skipped him. Life's too short to deal with bozos. "I'm looking for a no-nonsense quote on a G35 as follows. I intend to buy this week if the numbers are good. * 2008 Infiniti G35 Journey * Premium Package * Nav Package * Exterior color [insert yours here] * Interior color [ditto] Could you quote me your bottom-line price on this car (if you have it in stock), and let me know what your doc/prep fees are, and if there are any dealer-installed options already on the car or other fees? I understand the IFS buy rate MF on this car (top tier) is 0.00126 for a 24 month lease, and the residual is 70% (12k/yr). If you mark up your MF please let me know." Some dealerships will not respond at all, some respond with spam, and a few will offer serious information. If you are in Southern California, or are willing to fly there and take a road trip home in a new car (what a sacrifice), I highly recommend Mission Viejo Inifiniti between LA and San Diego. Their initial offer, based on my email, was to obtain the color and options I wanted from another dealer, for a price of invoice + 500 and a doc fee of $45, with no added dealer garbage and no MF mark up. I ran their numbers on my Excel spreadsheet, and they added up to the penny. I could negotiate a few hundred bucks lower, but I like to reward good behavior :) Here is the deal, 24 mo, 12k/yr with one email Monday and deal closed in a short phone call Tuesday: Journey, Prem + Nav MSRP = 37725 Neg. Price = 34994 Cap Cost = 34944+595 bank fee (rolled into the lease at this cheap MF) Drive off = DMV, $45 doc fee, first month's pmt (about 850 in CA) Pmt = 460.68+tax Most people live within a decent drive of a major metro area. The dealers in San Diego are [insert bad word here], but how far are you willing to drive to save a few K? For me, it's only 60 miles to southern fringe of LA, where free market competition works its magic. Your mileage may vary.
drawbacks to special orders

Hi all, just wondering...is there any financial penalty to special-ordering your car? Just from a common sense viewpoint, does it fatally compromise your ability to bargain? Thanks.

Congrats. What did you get, what was the deal and where did you get it? I'm still looking, but haven't decided. Thanks

I don't know about sedans, but, Kearny Mesa Infiniti quoted on a coupe 6MT 24 mo lease for $299 mo + tax, 12,000 mi/yr; $5,000 drive off--- Escondido Infiniti quoted $4,000 off sticker (you do the math.) They both had several coupes, but, I am waiting to see the 08 G37 in Aug or Sept, 2007. Maybe this (G37's coming) is the reason they want to move the G35 coupes. Like I said, I don't know what they are doing on the sedans.

I'm looking for an 07 G35S 6MT w/Premium and Sirius and am trying to determine what a reasonable final price range is. I've seen a few statements here and on other boards indicating $300-$400 below invoice is do-able, but I'd really like to know what dealers are doing these deals. I live in San Diego, but will go anywhere up to Santa Barbara to secure this type of a deal. Thanks for your help.

Just purchased a G35 Journey 4 dr. Sedan with the Premium and Navigation Packages, plus trunk cargo net and splash guards from Hoehn Infiniti in San Diego County, CA: Price: $34,530 Tax: $2,680 Doc Prep Fee: $55 Registration/Titling Fee: $272 CA Tire Fee: $8.75 Smog Abatement Fee: $12 Paid $506 over invoice (if you don't throw in the holdback of approx. $906). If you add the holdback, it appears the dealer made a 4% profit on this car. We were extremely happy with our experience. The transaction was smooth and the dealership staff very pleasant to work with.
