Good deal?
by montydee on Wed May 14 09:11:15 PDT 2008
I have been shopping around for a couple weeks and have been finally offered the below deal. Doing the math, I think I am about $750 over invoice (with the doc fee). G35 Journey w/ Prem Pkg only 24 month, 12k mile lease Tier 1 credit MSRP $35,515 Adj Cap Cost of $35,065 includes the following $595 Acquisition fee $600 DMV fee (AZ) $541 1st Payment $495 Doc Fee $0 due at signing with the 23 remaining payments at $541 (including 8% tax). I would love to get this down another couple hundred but I am not having any luck. We only have 4 Infiniti dealers in Phoenix (2 of the 4 owned by the same company) and 1 more in Tucson about 2 hours away. I can get the VPP discount, but every dealer has a $400-500 doc fee so I am in the same ball park with price. I will try one last time when I go do the final deal, but I am ok with paying the extra $10 or so a month to get the car. My bigger concern is that I want to make sure I am good with the math before pulling the trigger.

I've read this forum, and I've been in and out of here regularly for three years. Whoever posted that it's the total number of dollars involved, not how things are bundled or unbundled, is the true cost of the lease is pretty much right on. If you put $3600 up out front and pay $500 per month or nothing down and $600 per month your true cost is almost the same ... "almost" because you do lose the ability to earn interest on that $3600 for three years. At a generous 5% yield that's $540 over the term of the lease. When I lease I put the absolute minimum up front ... whatever's required by law ... taxes, tags, etc. And here in AZ the tags are ~ $750. Bart :shades:

Also think about the financing... On a used car from a private party you are likely to pay 7-10%, vs. 2.9% on a new G35. Assuming 8% tax and 7% interest on the used and 2.9% interest on the new, the 60 month payment is $666 for new and $641 for used. At the end of 5 years you are only saving $1,500. This is assuming you pay sales tax on both the new and used (here in AZ there is no sales tax on used cars from a private party). IMHO, if the used car at $30k is not EXACTLY as you would purchase a brand new one (color, options, condition, etc) then I would pass on the used at that price. You can always offer $28k for the used one... As far as the Acura, I don't think these are even in the same ball game. I would not pay $20k for a used TL. I shopped the new TL and it is lacking a lot of features that are standard on the G35, can't speak for a 2006 TL, but I am pretty sure that the the 06 has less then the 08.

Randy, were you able to finalize a deal in AZ? I am just starting my search and am finding that most of the dealerships don't want to talk pricing over email. I'm looking at the G37 and am wondering what pricing people in Arizona are paying for the Journey (and what options they added)

A good deal would invoice, including destination, minus the $500 cash rebate. There is no marketing charge to add on to that. Doc fees in AZ are $369 - $399, but vary all over. CA is set by law to $55; Dennis knows a dealer that has $0 doc fees. Look a couple pages back in the lease thread for the March residuals and money factors.

I'm stuck with $369 - $399 here in AZ and haven't argued them. CA is $55 by state law.
