My wife and I recently went to Continental Honda in Countryside, IL to purchase our first car. We were interested in a 2007 Certified Honda Accord LX. Two days before going to the dealership, I had spoken with Bobby G., one of the managers, and he had given me a ballpark estimate of what we would be able to work out for the car (should we like it). Although he was not working on the day we had open to come shopping, he promised to set us up with Mike, the used car sales manager, and one of his senior salesmen. On the phone, I was told that we could take the car for a test drive and even bring it to a mechanic if we liked it enough. My wife and I were nervous about our first car buying experience, but the organization and professionalism Bobby G. displayed over the phone put us at ease before we even got to the dealership. The big day arrived, and my wife and I arrived at the dealership on time for our appointment to see Mike. Within a minute, Mike had pulled the file Bobby G. had sent him on our car, and he set us up with a senior salesman - Brent Seavey - to take the car for a test drive. Brent was personable and professional on the test drive, talking to us about the benefits of owning a Honda and the Certified used car program. When we returned to the dealership after our short test drive, Brent was happy to let us take the car out to our own mechanic for an inspection. The paperwork was filled out in under 20 minutes (by this time, we had spent a total of 45 minutes - 1 hour at the dealership), and we were on our way. We were given 2 hours to take the car to a nearby garage - Maple Grove Automotive on Maple Ave. in Downers grove (excellent guys!) - and we were encouraged by Jon (one of the head mechanics) who told us to "Bring the car back in 200,000 miles, and I'll buy it off of you." I think this speaks to the quality of vehicles that Continental Honda purchases in order to sell to its customers. We returned to the dealership after the inspection, slightly nervous about the process of bargaining for the first time. Brent greeted us a couple minutes after we walked in the door and took us to his office. We told him that we liked the car and asked him to give us his best offer. He returned within about 10 minutes with an offer price that, although good, was about $500 above what I had been told over the phone when speaking with Bobby G. My wife and I were a little surprised by this, but when we let Brent know about our phone conversation with Bobby G., he did not argue with us but told us that he believe us and proceeded to make a phone call to Bobby G. When he returned 10 minutes later, the price was exactly as Bobby G. had promised. After one last round of negotiation over some minor body issues on the car (during which Brent was willing to hear us out and talk to his manager about our concerns), we settled on a price for the car with Brent and his manager. The total negotiation time was approximately 30 minutes (perhaps less). From then on, the rest of the process flew by. We were introduced to Joel Wolk, the service advisor at Continental Honda, who gave us a brief, friendly, and thorough explanation on servicing our new car. From there, we walked to Milo's (sp?) office to complete our financing paperwork. Milo treated us very cordially and was extremely personable during the entire encounter. Finally, Brent picked us back up and took us to the garage, where the car had been prepared to drive off the lot. He went over the major operating features of the vehicle, ensured that we understood how everything worked, and then sent us off on our way in our new purchase. In summary, my wife and I had a wonderful experience at Continental Honda in Countryside, IL. The only hiccup was the initial offering price for the car, which was above what was mentioned to me over the phone. However, Brent was a salesman with integrity and made sure that the offer matched what I had been promised over the phone. Furthermore, for those of you who are religious, Brent is a religious individual who attended Seminary and even helped to start a Church. As I look back on our experience, I am comforted by this knowledge and trust that Brent - although out to make a fair profit for his company - was not trying to unduly rob us of our money. Continental Honda in Countryside, IL deserves 5 stars. I highly recommend checking them out if you are interested in one of their cars listed online.
