For most, buying a car is equal to a visit to a dentist. It's probably not going to be much fun. But, sooner or later, you've got to do it. Happily, my dentist is painless. And, surprisingly, so was my experience in buying my 2013 Cadillac SRX at Grossinger. I worked with a pair of knowledgeable and enthusiastic young sales people, Jake and Preston... whose youth has kept them free, so far, of any of those "car salesman" stereotypes comedians love to mock. They know their products. They're proud of their products. And, they didn't mind letting their products sell themselves. (Typically, I think... it's when the car can't sell itself that the salesman becomes annoying.) Jake and Preston "presented" the car. Proudly. They explained the fine points... showed me the bells and whistles... answered my questions... went for the test drive... let me see ALL the colors and combinations... They didn't push, rush, beg, whimper, pressure, threaten, or twist my arm. They let the car sell itself. And it did. Joe, their sales manager, worked with me... again, without pressure or pain! They didn't have the exact color/interior combo I initially wanted, so he found one. When something else in stock caught my eye instead... he was happy to cancel the other deal and make this one happen. Joe worked with me to give me what I believed was a fair price for my trade. He was non-plused when I mentioned the "Costco deal" I was presented by another dealership... and he matched it. He also made me aware of a rebate and other potential discounts and/or incentives I didn't know about... so it made the deal even more comfortable for me. Jennifer, who worked with me on the financing, was equally helpful... presenting lease vs. purchase options, and explaining all the advantages and disadvantages of each, based on my car buying and use history. She presented their "after purchase" warranty options without pressure. And I settled on one that, again, was perfect for my situation. She made the money-part of deal probably as painless as it's ever going to be! Finally, Preston had the unenviable task of delivering my vehicle and explaining "how it worked". I traded in a Mercedes SUV. Things have changed on dashboards since 2006! Preston was calm and patient as he taught a non-tech person all the amazing high-tech features of my new car. He knows I'll be calling him with questions for a while... and he promises not to laugh, no matter how crazy they seem. Thanks to all of these people for making this purchase an easy and enjoyable experience. It was kind of like going to the dentist when he tells you all you need is a cleaning... then he validates your parking and gives you a new toothbrush! My experience working with the people at Grossinger has been excellent. I'd recommend them to friends looking to purchase a new Cadillac. I only hope they enjoy the process as much as I did.
