You've got a decent price there. I would tell them to forget the etching, it's pretty worthless. The "Dealer Doc" is what used to be called ADP - Added Dealer Profit. They added $399 to my car, and I manuevered them down to $199, so $189 is probably tolerable. The DMV fees MIGHT be OK, as long as that's what the DMV requires, and none goes to the dealer. A quick call to your DMV can tell you. All in all sounds pretty legit. Even the etching is less than some I've seen - but it still only costs them about $25 to do, and doesn't serve much purpose.

Probably 90% or so of dealerships will be OK or within sales goals in a given month. Soliciting bids from 10-30 dealerships via email with 100-300 miles of your locale will smoke out those 2-4 or more that need to make a sale. (their salesmen will be the ones buggin you, not take it or leave it.) Being flexible on colors and such gives one an advantage obviously. Last week of the month is best, with many price breaks occuring the last 3 days. You do 95% of all the legwork all within your normal routine via email or cellphone. Let them find you and put the odds in your favor. Obviously, looking at things as stated above, walking into the random dealership before closing last day of the month is unlikely to prove any benefit. The odds are 90% or more against getting a better deal than any other time. Actually its worse as most managers are tuned to these late comers and "demo" buyers who are likely to think what he throws out is a good price for the mere fact of their timing or the vehicle being a "demo". Good luck --jjf That only works if the salesman and/or dealer needs another sale or two to make quota or to get bonuses. If that one sale is driving off the lot when you are driving in you lose. Timing is everything.

OK, so the MSRP of the 2008 Sonata with the PEP and mats/flaps/net is $20,405, invoice is $19,519. So you are shooting for $1519 under invoice after rebate. Like I said, make them a firm offer and see what they say. They could say yes...
Finally, I bought it Out of State

I live in northern NJ and the dealers around here are snobbish prima donnas (I tried them all). I finally decided to contact Alexandria Hyundai. What a difference! !Straight and no BS talk, in 5 minutes (literally) they gave me the price of the VC that I was looking for. The cost included everything I would have to pay them. The rest would have been the NJ sales tax + NJ Title and registration fees that I would have to do myself (thus saving dealer's processing fees). The prices they advertise in the web include the military and recent college graduate rebates, if qualified. However, bear in mind that "everything is negotiable", I just had to ask for a break. So last Sunday I drove down to Alexandria and got my VC. There were no surprises, everything as promised, no hard push from the financial guy to get extended warranty or some of the other products the dealers like to sell you. The seals guy was terrific and made everything so easy to us. I gave them a personnal check and drove back to NJ with the brand new VC. OK, now the details. I got a 2008 Limited FWD VC. Options: floor mats, sunroof deflector and cargo tray. Note: they forgot to install the tray. I notided so when I got home, I called from NJ to let them know, they apologized for the overlook and shipped one to me via UPs. Price: Per Edmunds, Invoice+destination charge = $32,520. I drove out of the lot leaving them a check for $29,809 (it obviously includes the MFr. rebate). No trade in, no financing. The VC had 110 miles on it which I assume is because they had it for test drive to potential customers. The sales guy told me of the miles at the time he gave me the price. I did not mind the miles. I'm happy that I drove down there and I believe I got a decent deal. I thank you all guys (special mention to seloo and winedogs) for the messages that I've reading fot the last 4 months. Good lock to all future VC buyers.

Can you be a little more clear what options are on this car? There's no such thing as a "preferred pkg", and the lowest priced package, Popular Equipment Package, costs $650 and makes the MSRP of the car over $20k. Without any options except AT and mats/guards/net, the invoice is nearly $16k so you would be asking for about $1000 under invoice after rebate. Possible? Maybe. They may have some incentives to make it worth their while. Why not make the dealer a firm offer for $15k + TT&L? If they say "OK", you have yourself a car. If they say "no way," you can thank them for their time, say you'll be checking other dealers, and leave. If they go after you, you have a chance. If not, you know $15k is too low--at least for now.

maybe this is more readable: 08 Limited - $3,161 under invoice. A standard deal should be between $2-2.5K under invoice. Now I'm curious if I got a "good deal" or not, so I checked. Checking after the fact may not be such a good thing! But, here is is anyway: Item $MSRP $Invoice $Difference Limited VC________34050________ 31577________ 2473 Nav_______________1750__________1623_________127 Mat set_____________125___________100__________25 Rack Bars___________205___________164__________41 Shipping_____________695___________695___________0 Totals_____________36825__________34159________2666 (Invoice markup) Invoice less Actual $ paid = 34159 less 31199 = $2960 below invoice. OK, now I feel better.
