Buying a car from a Hyundai Car Dealer
Dayton, Ohio. Without any negotiating so far, I've been quoted $21,730 on a stock (aside from floor mats) SE V6 model, ebony black. That's before the $2K cash back or $ 1K + 2.9% financing for 60 months. Reasonable deal? Any ideas what I should be able to talk them down to? Looking that the TMV it's already lower, so I'm not sure exactly how much room I have to bargain.
When I decided on a 2007 Azera several weeks ago, I spent hours talking to dealers in several states, tracking down ten Azeras matching my want list. Now that I'm ready to purchase, I discovered seven of them have been sold. The remaining three are program cars with many miles on them (none under 6,000 miles). Sure, I still could buy a 2007, but without driving more than two states away, I would have to buy one with thousands of miles already on it, or settle on color choice (I'm insistent on black leather interior) or give up the Logic7 audio system (not gonna happen). Dedicated to my decision to own a new Azera Limited Ultimate with Logic7, I decided a 2008 is the only way to go. So, after some back-and-forth negotiating with three dealers, I ended up selecting a 2008 Azera Limited Ultimate without NAV in Silver with black leather interior. I pick her up this Friday. The deal I struck resulted in $24,894 for the car (includes the $2000 rebate), and $27,165 out-the-door. And, the dealer threw in the first two oil changes for free. Fortunately, the dealer I'm buying from is the same one that I will be taking the car to for service, since it's the one closest to where I live. And since I'm buying the car there, I get a free loaner when I take mine in for service. Although I originally had my heart set on a 2007, I'm happy with my decision and with the deal I got on an amazing vehicle that stickers for $30,595.
I enjoy reading eveyone's posts, thanks for all the information. I've decided I want a 5 door GLS Elantra, preferably 5 speed (because of the price) with as few options as possible. I basically want a reliable car that is comfortable enough for long trips. As I have done some exploring, and negotiating, the price I am looking at, is around 14,150 (exclu. title, tags, tax, etc.; around 15,400 OTD) and includes package 3 (cd and cruise). That excludes the rebate because i am planning on financing at 0% but it still seems high, especially in light of some of the other posts. The dealership I went to was in Lima, OH, so probably smaller than those in San Francisco, or D.C. but...I still expected a better price. Any information on how I can negotiate the price down, or why it is so high would be appreciated. Additionally, if anyone has bought an Elantra in Indi, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, Ft. Wayne and has price information I would love to hear it. Thanks.
I paid 850 below MSRP for auto/ moonroof/ abs/ tc/ mats and mudguards. I really didn't haggle much as I didn't have the time--bought it over the phone. I don't regret it.
Picked up a 2002 Elantra GLS, 5-Speed manual, Package 5 (ABS & TCS) for invoice price - $13,600 (US). Note that the invoice price includes the corporate advertising fees which my local dealer would not take off. Also note that this advertising fee seems to vary. The car was Dealer Exchanged from another zone where this fee was about $160 higher than what was printed on my dealer's invoices. Oh well. I waited 10 weeks for this car to come in on dealer allocation. I was very particular on my color. Nothing. So, I finally took the one they found at another dealer that had been sitting around for a couple months. It had more miles than I would have liked, but I didn't want to wait another month, or two, or ... If you are in the Dayton - Columbus Ohio area, consider Jeff Wyler in Springfield. I feel they did me well. Very easy to work with.
