Buying a car from a Hyundai Car Dealer
Just looked at a fully loaded 3.8 at City Auto Park in Burlington NJ. It had the whole list of goodies plus it had a custom grill with the winged Genesis symbol (ala Bentley). The symbol was also on the trunk and steering wheel replacing the H. It was a beautiful but the sticker was almost $42K. I think I will scale down my search but would love to find out where to get the winged Genesis symbol
The fact that a dealer quoted you $250 under invoice right off the bat should tell you something, although the added in fee for advertising is a joke, it is not a real charge. One of the best dealers I have seen that displays pricing online is Fitzmall.com in Maryland. Shop there and you will find 07's going for $1,738 to $2,238 UNDER invoice, and 08's for $1,438 UNDER invoice. I live in Ohio, and a trip to Maryland would be a 500 mile drive, but that didn't stop me from passing along the link to their deal to the local dealers in my area. With very little effort, I had the locals down to $1,200 under invoice for an 08 Limited FWD, where we struck a deal. (I didn't feel a difference of $238 was worth driving 500 miles for, especially since I wanted the local dealer to service my new Veracruz; your mileage may vary. :) I did my entire negotiation by e-mail, sealed the deal with a single phone call, and was in and out of the dealership in 1 hour with my new Veracruz. The sales manager was quick to point out that they had never had a customer present them with a competive deal from "5 states away", but they also stuck to their word on matching any deal I brought in. These dealers are very motivated right now to move cars, at little to no profit because the more they sell now, the larger their allocations of cars will be in the future. They want to build a solid base of new customers at just about any price, so use that to your advantage. Negotiating for a new car is a game, the more knowledge you have going in, the better you will do. Don't be afraid to get up and walk out; your phone will be ringing when you get home with a better deal.
I really like this feature of CarSpace, as it is really facilitating some good deals. It would be helpful, however, if we could all agree to include the relevant details, such as sales price, adjustments for trades, documentation fees, incentives you may qualify for (like owner loyalty, competitive owner, etc.) and sales tax. That way we can really see where the market is at. It certainly appears that some dealers are very willing to go at least $1,100 under invoice (with no incentives in the mix)on 2008s. For me, that would be enough incentive to travel 500 miles to buy.(and hopefully motivate a local dealer to match) :)
Here in NE Ohio, the 08's are still very scarce. Most dealers have quite a few 07's in stock, but no Limiteds. I have been able to get quotes for 2008's at dealer cost without pressing the issue, but so far no one is offering to go UNDER invoice. That $37,200 deal for an 08 Limited AWD is at least $1136 under invoice (assuming no options), which isn't too bad in my book. Those Texas deals posted earlier for $3,000 to $3,800 under invoice sound so good they make me consider jumping on a plane with a one-way ticket! :)
Cheri91 said: I just purchased a 2007 VC LTD FWD with ultimate package and premium leather for $30,500 from a dealer in Austin. The price did include the $500 competitive bonus. According to Edmunds, this was $3,300 under invoice! Can you share any more details on this deal? This is without a doubt the best deal I have ever seen posted! Did you pit one dealer against another? I'm not having too much difficulty in getting dealers to give me an "at invoice" price (which makes me curious as to how much holdback there really is), but even throwing in all the incentives, this is a tremendous deal. Your negotiating tips would be greatly appreciated!
