Why do you think the Sonata rebate will be increased? I'm wondering if the Sonata is selling well? I'm not kidding, I rarely see any in the metro NY area. I go to Aquaduct racetrack mostly everyday and walking through the parking lot I pass hundreds of parked cars. There is no question that Toyota/Honda/Nissan dominate the auto market. I have seen only two Sonatas. Of the many people I know, only one has bought a Sonata. To repeat my question: Is the Sonata selling well? Received an email from Plaza Hyundai in Brooklyn NY informing me that the color combination I'm looking for will be available December 14. The internet price for the car is $18995 but they don't say if destination is included, if rebate is deducted, or if there other dealer charges. Dealers should learn how to give quotes or maybe they are deliberately evasive? I replied to the email asking these questions and as usual you get "When do you want to come in to discuss the deal."

You don't give any numbers, so there is no way of knowing how well you did. Today I went to Plaza Hyundai in Brooklyn NY to negotiate in person. I had received an email from their internet department with a quote of $17855 for the Sonata Unlimited Standard. When I got there the manager of internet sales greeted me and assigned me to a salesman. I then understood that this negotiation was going to go nowhere. The salesman knew nothing but was making outlandish claims about the good deal he was going to give me. The original quote of $17855 magically was bumped to $21899. It was a moot point because at the price I wasn't buying. And besides, they didn't have my color (steel gray) in stock. The manager then got into the discussion using the standard cliches which led me to walk. Which ever way you go it starts off with the lie of a low ball quote so that they can get their grubby hands on you in their den of iniquity. That is a mistake, you can't win playing in their den. Of the two lousy ways to buy a new car, using email is the better way to go. At the rate I'm going, I'll probably reach 90 years of age before I allow dealers to fleece me. I've got 9 years to go to do it my way at my price. Good luck to me!

No names or profanity-got it. Here it goes: I don’t have extensive credit history so I knew that obtaining financing at a really good rate would be difficult but I was prepared for this. I went to a Brooklyn dealership and I negotiated the price on a GLS V6 with sunroof. The dealership insisted that the rebate was taxable (price+delivery+TTL-Rebate=OTD) which I thought was a little off. I was ok with it though because I was comfortable with the price. The finance guy told me that it would be difficult to get financing because of my lack of credit history (again, I was prepared for this). I was told to stop by the next day to pick up the car. Lo and behold the dealership could not find a lender. I was told to call the next day which I did. However, the salesperson and finance guy would not return my phone calls. This went on for another day and I finally went it to face a barrage of excuses. When I cancelled the deal, the manager, salesperson and finance guy got upset when I would not give them another chance. The Manhattan dealership offered me a rate of 20.5% ! And that’s after the manager pulled some strings to get me a loan. I gave a $3k down payment and was assured by two salesmen that the money would be refunded the same day if I declined the deal. They lied. I declined the deal but the dealership has not refunded my money and it’s been almost three weeks. I recently found out that retailers including car dealerships are supposed to post their refund policy as per NYS retail. This dealership has not posted a refund policy and is in clear violation of the law. I’ve contacted my bank in order to receive a charge-back, I have submitted a complaint to Hyundai, and the BBB and I’m filing a complaint with the NYS Attorney General. Sorry for the lengthy post
The Dealership: Hyundai's Achilles Heel

I just wanted to vent about my bad experiences at two dealerships, one in Manhattan and the other in Brooklyn, NY. :( Is there a dedicated board to do this? If there isn't then that's ok as I'm creating a complaint website to honor their inattentiveness, dishonesty and illegal business practices. This is probably why I may never buy a Hyundai nor recommend the brand.

I concluded the deal with the Brooklyn Hyundai dealer. I cancelled the order. What I thought was a good quote of $20651 was a lie. This quote included the 2 $1000 rebates so that the original selling price was $22641. In addition, there was a preprinted line for window etching for $199. A blatant rip-off, in NYC the police department does this free. How about this: NY State waste tire fee $12.50. Does any one know what this is? It was a lousy experience and nothing in the auto business has changed in 50 years. No one can win the price game with vultures. So beware. I am going to try the fax method as advertised on www.fightingchance.com. I don't ever want to deal with a car salesman again. To get down to their level you would have to scrape the gutter.
