I didn't say I would only buy from the dealer closest to me. I only said that I wouldn't buy a Hyundai from a dealer in another state or across the country. If that NJ dealer is the only dealer in the entire US that says they will sell for that price ($1800 below invoice plus $1500 rebate), it probably means it isn't a real deal. If one of the 15+ Hyundai dealers within a 3 hour drive will sell for the same price, then I may buy from one of them. In my area the dealers still have more 2008s than 2009s. Maybe in 2 months, the 2008s will finally will be completely gone and their lots will be stocked full of 2009s. They could even raise the rebate on 2009s from $1500 to $2000 if they don't have to worry about moving remaining 2008s anymore. At that point better deals will be available and I may take another look if I haven't already decided on something else.

Go to Towne Hyundai's (NJ) web site. Search the forums for Towne Hyundai as well. I have no experience to back it up, but posters here say it is the real deal. Their "doc fee" is (at least was) $189. If local SW Ohio Hyundai dealers would match their offering within $500 I'll buy local but I've had no luck getting that close of a quote previously on 08's. A trip east is no problem as family is in PA and I head that direction half-way fairly frequently. Some here suggest buying in the MD-DC-VA area as well, but I can't say I've seen it better or more certain that the Towne deals. I keep reading though. When one buys, ignorance is the kiss of death. Read all those "buyer's remorse" postings here. Two times I've purchased new cars since 2001; once I received 35% off sticker and another time almost 40%. These were GM models though and I had GM credit card rebates in addition to the highest manufacturer's incentives. Not that I expect to get that kind of deal, but the point is to maximize your knowledge to where you cannot make a bad decision. On an 04 Silhouette the sticker was $29435 - negotiated $26800 (included "fees" - probably could have been better) - rebates were $6000 - card rebates were $3100 - a $17700 price before TTT. There were reasons for this deal though (Oldsmobile!) and the 09 Sonata is a superior quality vehicle that will be an excellent buy at significantly less discount. I have been considering a purchase since Jul 07 when the deals were "too good to be true" on 07's. 08 deals have been even better. I suspect that once 08's are all but gone and 09's are in mass quantity with the US factory cranking them out in a continued "buyers" market, the 09 deals will build to a crescendo again. Remember they shut down the Alabama line for a week or two in October 07 because they oversupplied themslves. The 09 is a better car whereas the 08 was essentially the 07 with minor changes in trimline offerings. 5 speed auto with the improved I4 engine! Improved interior! The base price increase is justified given the new offerings IMO. I'm going to still sit out for a little while longer, but I'll be paying attention routinely right here at this forum!

If they had a dealership like Stateline Hyundai here in Arizona then I would be buying one tomorrow. NJ is a little far away though. I was hoping someone in Arizona had a no bs buying experience like stateline Hyundai. If anyone Arizona can help me out with a name that would be awesome! If my car sells tomorrow I will need a new car soon. Getting down to the wire. I have a pretty good idea of what price I should be paying now! Unfortunately all the dealers want to add their $799 alarm, $499 tint, and $699 special car wash package. It's like pulling teeth to get an OTD price around here. Very frustrating!! Thanks for the replies!

We did not have a trade-in. We called saying we had seen their internet price and would like to purchase. Asked for confirmation of total out the door price. They responded with price of car, doc fee, title & registration fee, CT sales tax (CT taxes the pre-rebate price) and rebate for the total OTD price. All of it was very clear. We made the agreement over the phone on a Tuesday or Wednesday and picked up the car on Saturday. The title & registration fees were a bit high--included temporary NJ registration--but it didn't matter. The total price OTD ($18,189) on an MSRP of $22,080 before tax, doc fee, title & registration was something like $3K less than the dealership in Bridgeport wanted. This was for an '07 Sonata SE V6 in Feb '07. They told us the colors they had in stock. We selected gray and they then gave us the VIN, so we could get our insurance card. The car was ready and fully prepped Saturday morning. Towne arranged HMFC financing (5.9% for 60 months, which was a good rate in 2/07). All we had to do was sign papers and give the balance of our downpayment. Actually, my brother picked up the car. He left Shelton, picked up the car and was back in Trumbull to show me the car in about 4.5 hours. A friend bought an Azera in 4/07. Same great experience. Although, at that time, Towne was able to get better financing through a bank than from HMFC. Wish this forum allowed me to give you the salesman's name.
Finally, I bought it Out of State

I live in northern NJ and the dealers around here are snobbish prima donnas (I tried them all). I finally decided to contact Alexandria Hyundai. What a difference! !Straight and no BS talk, in 5 minutes (literally) they gave me the price of the VC that I was looking for. The cost included everything I would have to pay them. The rest would have been the NJ sales tax + NJ Title and registration fees that I would have to do myself (thus saving dealer's processing fees). The prices they advertise in the web include the military and recent college graduate rebates, if qualified. However, bear in mind that "everything is negotiable", I just had to ask for a break. So last Sunday I drove down to Alexandria and got my VC. There were no surprises, everything as promised, no hard push from the financial guy to get extended warranty or some of the other products the dealers like to sell you. The seals guy was terrific and made everything so easy to us. I gave them a personnal check and drove back to NJ with the brand new VC. OK, now the details. I got a 2008 Limited FWD VC. Options: floor mats, sunroof deflector and cargo tray. Note: they forgot to install the tray. I notided so when I got home, I called from NJ to let them know, they apologized for the overlook and shipped one to me via UPs. Price: Per Edmunds, Invoice+destination charge = $32,520. I drove out of the lot leaving them a check for $29,809 (it obviously includes the MFr. rebate). No trade in, no financing. The VC had 110 miles on it which I assume is because they had it for test drive to potential customers. The sales guy told me of the miles at the time he gave me the price. I did not mind the miles. I'm happy that I drove down there and I believe I got a decent deal. I thank you all guys (special mention to seloo and winedogs) for the messages that I've reading fot the last 4 months. Good lock to all future VC buyers.

jaxs You don't have to understand it or like it. Towne is a high volume (must get extra incentives) dealership, no BS. The price they quote is the sales price (they quote over the phone including $189 doc fee & TTL). I know from personal experience and 7 other buying experiences from people I know or were tipped off (2) by a guy I tipped off. We bought an '07 Sonata SE-XM in 2/07 at $5429 under MSRP which was about $4400 under invoice, including $500 owner loyalty rebate They're in NJ. We're in CT. We paid CT sales tax, so everything is legit. We're 100 miles away. Well worth the trip. P.S. Towne also has the $500 owner loyaty discount now. So price is $1800 under invoice less $1500 general rebate and $500 rebate owner loyalty for those who qualify; any trim, any options.
