Bought a 2009 Santa Fe SE FWD Today in NJ
by counselor4444 on Sat Aug 08 15:04:42 PDT 2009
I'm a very detail and research oriented person and probably contacted 40 dealerships in NJ/NY/PA/CT/MA/DE/MD area to find the best prices. I gathered all the information I needed, including invoice prices, rebates, and dealer cash before going into the dealerships so they would know up front that I knew all of the price info. I knew exactly what I wanted to pay based on the internet prices we received. We were up front that we were not eligible for the loyalty/college grad/military/cash for clunkers rebates. We also already had our own financing outside of Hyundai. We began our day at Maxon Hyundai in Union, NJ. We had received a good internet price (MSRP: $25,770, Internet price: $21,5 incl destination) and they had indicated that they had the model we wanted in stock. We arrived and were eventually told that they did not have what we wanted. (even though their email said differently) They tried to sell us a SE AWD that we did not want for invoice minus manuf rebate minus an additional $1500. They told us they could get the less expensive SE FWD we wanted but they would only take the manf rebate off the invoice with no other discounts. We did not have any further with discussions and left. We next went to Global Auto Mall in Plainfield, NJ. We did not have an internet price from them but had been told this morning that they had what we wanted in stock (even down to the color we wanted). We got there and found out that they had SE FWD but not in the blue color we wanted. They showed us a red SE FWD. We were then told that they could get what we wanted through a dealer locate. I gave the salesman my shtick- i've spoken with 40 dealerships, seen X prices, know about the rebates/dealer cash. He came back with a print out of the exact vehicle we wanted which he would have to get from another dealership and a high price. (I knew this would start "the negotiation game") I gave him a low ball price in return. He came back and told us that they could sell it to us for a little under $21K. He then refused to commit to a number. The head sales manager came over and said to us, i understand you have looked at a lot of dealerships and I do not think you are serious about making a deal so you should go and look elsewhere. (is this guy serious?) Then the head salesman says, we can sell it for 21K. We agreed to take it and then our salesman comes back and says that they won't do it for the blue vehicle they would have to locate and they would only do it for the red SE FWD on the lot (even though the negotiation was only for the dealer locate vehicle) We were pretty angry at this point (1 hr later) and left in a fury. Outside, I asked my husband to consider the red one on the lot as it was a good price, and we went back and asked to see the red one again. I warned the salesman, if this is one penny over 21K, we will leave and will not come back. He said not to worry it was a done deal and that we were getting an even better deal b/c it had bluetooth (which the blue one did not). We go back inside and he goes to get the contract and comes back and says that the sales manager wants more money for extra options now. We got up and left. We honestly believe that our salesman had no idea this was going to happen and seemed just as angry as us that the sales manager had gone back on what he offered. Be warned: our salesman (Kelvin) was very polite, but the head sales manager was not and deceptive business practices are used. The sales manager changed prices on us twice after committing to the prices offered. I do not recommend buying from them. We then went to Hackettstown Hyundai in Hackettstown, NJ. Jerry was our salesman. We had received another good internet price from then (21,5) They told me on the phone they had the colors we wanted, and did. No unethical sales practices, no changes of price, only professionalism here. We negotiated the price down from MSRP $25,770 (SE FWD with mats, incl destination charge) to $21,250 plus tax, title, registration, etc. We believe that we got a very good deal. We will pick it up on Mon or Tues and I will post another review then. Yay!
2009 Sonata w/ nav V4
by nysniper28 on Fri Sep 26 21:11:57 PDT 2008
Got another email from Towne in NJ, saying that WITH tax and everything I can be out the door for $23,000, considering my tax is 8.75%. This is pretty close to what I have been looking at since I will be putting down $5000 and already have financing at 5.24% for 60 months from my credit union, so that means financing on $18,000 at payments of around $340. or seeing what they have to offer for Finance rate. I'm gonna go to my local dealer 2morrow and see what he can do, but hopefully I can talk Towne down more, looking to be at $22000 after taxes . Does this deal sound good??? Any thoughts on if anyone thinks the rebates will stay for october??

hi all, finally i got the car on aug 02, 2008. thank you to all for your precious postings which helped me a lot. here is the process. i called few dealers with the best quote shown in this forum and finally towne hyundai(NJ) agreed for 22,000. it includes v4 ltd with navigation, carpet floor mats, all season floor mats and cargo mat. when i used to call the dealers i used to tell them that my friend had got the car for so and so amount and they would ask me for the last and first name. this created some problem. if any of you want to you please mail me torrent123@inbox.com and i would let you know my name and number. i guess this will help you. back to mu purchase: i financed my car for 9.10% for 60 months for 19,000(after making a down payment of 3,000). first they quoted 11.10% because as per their calculation my credit score is 636 but on internet it shows as 684. i am not sure how they didi it. they reduced it after i told them that i have been approved for 7.5% from credit union. i could have gone with the credit union but it would take till august 04, 08 but wanted to have the car on saturday(aug 02,08), so anyway i have gone a head and got the car through hyundai finance. here is the breakdown. price of vehicle 22,208.49 state sales tax 1332.51(connecticut) triVIN online process fee 5.70 reg/title 270.00 doc fee 188.00 total 24,000 rebate 2,000 final price 22,000. hope this will help future buyers. one important thing get the finance from credit union before buying the car. one more thing. i feel that when i drive the vehicle at or above 65mph there is some shakiness in the steering. it this a problem with my vehicle or is this characteristic of sonata. should i call the dealer thank you gracious shukriya danyavadam Regards, Raju.
Decent price on an 07' Elantra SE Auto
by effect18 on Sat Aug 18 17:33:53 PDT 2007
I got my wife a good deal(I think) on a black elantra SE with the black interior. We paid 15,600 OTD including taxes and fees. At Maxon in Union NJ. They are advertising a 4,000 discount on any trade in, in any condition. We traded in her 2007 Saturn S2 w/o a radio(stolen) or a rear window(broken to take the radio). She's happy with it so, I'm happy.

Let's see how the game is played. For my zip code CarsDirect gave me a quote for the 2007 Sonata Limited Base $19802. On their follow up call they told me that Global Hyundai in NJ was the dealer that would get me the car and in addition I pay a Documentation Fee $289 and window etch fee $199. I'm sure that when you get to the dealer there will be pin striping and other goodies that are added. Youu can't win the price game with any referral service. They are shilling for the dealers and you are playing against a stacked deck that is difficult to overcome. It's the same whether you use Costco, BJ's, Credit Unions, online websites, etc. Email quotes are a con just to get you into the dealer. And then it's plucking time. I have doubt about some of the prices that I read on the forum. In NYC I rarely see any Sonatas, so I'm wondering if they are selling in the tri-state area.
