2008 Hyundai Elantra SE Automatic
by bfeldstein on Thu Mar 27 18:40:28 PDT 2008
I paid $18,115 for the above (with mud flaps and carpeted floor mats). After my $2000 rebate, it came to $16,115. The dealer would not budge on the price - not a penny off MSRP. I did get a decent finance rate - 6.51% for 60 mos. He said that the Elantra SE models were limited in supply since the article in CR was published. He claimed that some customers were telling him that other dealers were selling them above MSRP - could that be true? Anyway, he only had one SE that arrived today (the one I subsequently purchases) and one more on its way...that was it for a while. I wanted the $2000 cash back offer which expires 3/31, so I took the deal. He threw in a free pinstripe ($179 value he claims). Did I get a bad deal?

From 04 XG to 06 Limited Ultimate
by nmooney on Sat Apr 05 15:21:23 PDT 2008
My sons turned 16 (twins) and took over my 2004 XG350 (which I encouraged because it has so many safety features.) Given my complete satisfaction with Hyundai, I started looking for an 06 Ultimate Azera. I wanted an 06 because I drive very long trips and wanted the cassette (not on 07 or 08) for increased access to books on tape. After looking for about 2 mos. I bought a beauty at Mercedes Benz of Augusta, Ga., some 250 miles from my home in Tallahassee,FL. It is Cypress Green, black interior, 5500 miles, $17,000.00 OTD (but that did not include $1200 FL tax because they don't collect that in Ga.) I never drove an Azera until after I paid for it and drove off the dealership (in all of about fifteen minutes.) It was prepped and waiting, and I wasn't concerned about this dealership or the car, and my lack of concern has been justified. The car is great, larger and simultaneously more economical than I expected. The dealership was great: they pulled no punches. I don't think I could have done better anywhere for this model & year in this condition. I think Hyundais are terrific, but I'd never buy new again, as I did my XG. the depreciation is just too steep. For that one, stickered at $26,000.00, I paid $21,700.00 and thought it was a great deal. But a year off the lot it was worth $16,000. This Azera's sticker is $30,100.00, and comparing apples to apples I paid the dealer $16,400.00 after some poor bugger had it only 15 mos. and put merely 5500 miles on it! To me, this is the only way to go. One negative observation, not a complaint. From the moment I bought the XG I was amazed at the unbelievably high quality of the interior materials. The most noteworthy example is the dashboard and glove box. It's hard to imagine a more serious and expensive item: maybe you have to check out the weight and thickness of the glove box door to understand what I'm saying. So when I first opened the Azera glove box and it dropped down like any other cheap hard plastic glove box, I was surprised. Nope, it doesn't matter at all and after two weeks with this car I haven't seen another suggestion of cutting corners significantly, and it surely enhanced fuel economy to lighten up. But that ole' XG glove box always impressed me and made me think I had a real Asian luxury car.
Re: how's this deal by comparison? [backy]

Thinking of comparisons, Backy, what would you consider the better way to go including, price, reliability, just about anything else....between only the Hyundai Sonata and Elantra ? Why ? Which level, gls, se,limited, whatever? 4 or 6 ? Just trying to also plan for the next .......maybe 6 mos. Appreciate your input. oh, think automatic. Thanks, Van

08 GLS auto pop pack 15,900 + ttl
by rx2man on Mon Dec 31 00:45:30 PST 2007
Went to Hyundai of Tempe, AZ to start and they would not negotiate below invoice, left and headed up to North Scottsdale Hyundai. Traded in a 04 XG350 that we had run up the miles to 60k on already and wanted a warranty since we still had a car payment, owed 11500 on it. Were given 8500 for it. A little below what I thought I should get but close enough. Got the 08 GLS auto with pop pack & matts, no sunroof. Got it for 15,900 and 72 mos @ 0% thats with rebates etc, and owing tax, title and license. Kept trying for 14,800 as people 6 mos ago were getting that but dealer would do no more. One issue though, wanted the Hyundai backed 10/100. Dealer did not bother to tell us that they dont offer the Hyundai warranty and sold us a 3rd party warranty not recognised by Hyundai. Figured it out the same night and got it cancelled. But was not happy about it. FYI not all dealers sell the hyundai backed warranty thats through JM&A. Hyundai USA does not support their own warranty anymore and are only going with a 3rd partyy JM&A. But is optional for dealers to carry it!!!!!
